Avalon, New Jersey

Seven Mile Island or Seven Mile Beach is the name of a barrier island on the Jersey Shore in Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. It is divided between the boroughs of Avalon to the north, from 6th to 80th Streets, and Stone Harbor to the south, from 80th Street to Hereford Inlet. The island is 7+1⁄2 miles (12 kilometers) long, and is three to four blocks wide. Known as Leaming's Island in 1722, when the first purchase of its 2,725 acres (1,103 hectares) was recorded, its dunes, woodlands and beaches were purchased for the equivalent of $380.

Avalon School District is a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from Avalon, New Jersey, United States. Based on data from the 2014 Taxpayers' Guide to Education Spending prepared by the New Jersey Department of Education, the Avalon district's total per pupil spending of $43,775 was the highest of any regular school district.Starting with the 2011-12 school year, in an agreement with the Stone Harbor School District, public school students in grades K-4 from both communities attend school at Stone Harbor Elementary School in Stone Harbor while all students in PreK and in grades 5-8 attend school in Avalon as part of a reciprocal sending/receiving relationship.As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising one school, had an enrollment of 61 students and 13.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 4.4:1. In the 2016–17 school year, Avalon had the smallest enrollment of any school district in the state, with 43 students.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "FG", the fourth-highest of eight groupings. As of the 2018–19 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 767 students and 64.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.9:1.

Avalon Life Saving Station is located in Avalon, Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. The station was built in 1894 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 2, 1979.

The Stone Harbor School District is a community public school district that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade from Stone Harbor, in Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2018–19 school year, the district, comprising one school, had an enrollment of 99 students and 11.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.0:1. Townsends Inlet is an inlet connecting Townsend Sound with the Atlantic Ocean in Cape May County, New Jersey.

The Wetlands Institute is a non-profit organization started in 1969 by the executive director of WWF, Herbert Mills. The Wetlands Institute sits on 6,000 acres (24 km²) of protected wetlands in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. It hosts educational tours and courses and is a base for research on wetlands ecology. It is home to the annual Wings 'n Water art festival.

WZXL (100.7 FM, "100.7 ZXL") is a radio station also known as "South Jersey's Rock Station", playing mainstream rock. WZXL is licensed to Wildwood, New Jersey. Operating with 38,000 watts, WZXL serves the greater South Jersey area including Atlantic City, Cape May, Long Beach Island, and Cumberland County. WZXL's signal also reaches Sussex County, Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. WZXL's transmitter is located along Avalon Boulevard, just east of Swainton, while studios are on Black Horse Pike in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township.

Pleasure Bay is a tributary of the Shrewsbury River in Monmouth County, New Jersey in the United States. Pleasure Bay is an estuary formed by the confluence of Branchport Creek and Troutmans Creek, flowing north to the Shrewsbury River. A short distance above the mouth, Manahasset Creek enters the bay. Pleasure Bay forms the boundary of Oceanport with Long Branch and Monmouth Beach.

Stone Harbor is a borough in Cape May County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The borough, and all of Cape May County, is part of the South Jersey region of the state and of the Ocean City metropolitan statistical area, which is part of the Philadelphia-Wilmington-Camden, PA-NJ-DE-MD combined statistical area, also known as the Delaware Valley or Philadelphia metropolitan area. It occupies the southern portion of Seven Mile Island together with its northern neighbor Avalon. It is a resort community that attracts visitors looking to enjoy its beaches, sailing facilities and commercial center. The community attracts a large number of vacationers from the Mid-Atlantic region and Quebec. As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 796, a decrease of 70 (−8.1%) from the 2010 census count of 866, which in turn had reflected a decline of 262 (−23.2%) from the 1,128 counted in the 2000 census. The borough has a summer population in excess of 20,000, who are generally wealthier than full-time residents.The New York Times described Stone Harbor as a place of "gleaming McMansions and elegant shops", with an average single-family home selling for $2.5 million in 2008. In 2017, Stone Harbor was the third-most expensive ZIP Code in New Jersey based on median home sale price, and had the second-priciest residential real estate transaction in the state that year at $10 million. In 2014, Forbes magazine ranked Stone Harbor (ZIP Code 08247) at the 191st spot on its list of the most expensive ZIP Codes in the United States.

Stone Harbor Bird Sanctuary is a 21.5-acre (8.7 ha) bird sanctuary and nature preserve in Stone Harbor, Cape May County, New Jersey. It was created in 1947 by local ordinance. It was designated a National Natural Landmark in October 1965, the first in New Jersey.

U.S. Life-Saving Station No. 35 is located in Stone Harbor, Cape May County, New Jersey, United States. The station was built in 1895 and added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 8, 2008.

The New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail Route extends along eastern and southern coast of New Jersey for nearly 300 miles (480 km). It travels along the Raritan Bay from Perth Amboy to Sandy Hook, along Jersey Shore at the Atlantic Ocean to Cape May, and along the Delaware Bay to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. The trail encompasses a variety of New Jersey state parks along with facilities under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service.
