Yıldız Palace

Yıldız (Turkish pronunciation: [jɯɫˈdɯz], literally 'star') is a neighbourhood in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, Turkey. The neighbourhood comprises some of Istanbul's well known historical locations, such as Yıldız Park and Yıldız Palace, the second-largest palace in Istanbul. Yıldız has a population of approximately 6,000.

The Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque (Turkish: Yıldız Hamidiye Camii), also called the Yıldız Mosque (Turkish: Yıldız Camii), is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in Yıldız neighbourhood of Beşiktaş district in Istanbul, Turkey, on the way to Yıldız Palace. The mosque was commissioned by the Ottoman sultan Abdul Hamid II, and constructed between 1884 and 1886. The mosque was built on a rectangular plan and has one minaret. The architecture of the mosque is a combination of Neo-Gothic style and classical Ottoman motifs. A bronze colonnade erected by Abdul Hamid II in Marjeh Square of Damascus, Syria bears a replica statue of the Yıldız Mosque on top. On 4 August 2017, the mosque was reopened by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after 4 years of restoration work that cost 27 million Turkish liras ($7.6 million).

Yıldız Clock Tower (Turkish: Yıldız Saat Kulesi), is a clock tower situated next to the courtyard of the Yıldız Hamidiye Mosque, in Yıldız neighborhood of Beşiktaş district in Istanbul, Turkey at the European side of Bosphorus.

Beşiktaş Atatürk Anadolu Lisesi or briefly BAAL ("Beşiktaş Atatürk Anatolian High School") is an Anatolian High School located on the European side of Istanbul and one of the most prominent high schools founded by the first prime minister, İsmet İnönü, in Turkey . The primary languages of instruction are Turkish and English. The secondary foreign languages are German and French.

Yıldız Technical University (Tr. Yıldız Teknik Üniversitesi, often simply referred to as YTU or Yıldız) is a prominent technical university dedicated to engineering and natural sciences as well as social sciences recently, and is one of the oldest educational institutions in Istanbul, Turkey. The central campus lies within the Beşiktaş district. The new Davutpaşa campus lies within the Esenler district. The university has 10 faculty, 3 vocational schools, and 2 institutions.

Yıldız Park (Turkish: Yıldız Parkı) is a historical, urban park in Beşiktaş district of Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the largest public parks in Istanbul. The park is located in Yıldız quarter between the palaces of Yıldız and Çırağan.

The Ertuğrul Tekke Mosque, (Turkish: Ertuğrul Tekke Camii), is an Ottoman imperial mosque located in Yıldız neighbourhood, Serencebey rise of Beşiktaş district in Istanbul, Turkey. A late Ottoman period mosque, it is constructed as a külliye consisting of a tekke, guest house, türbe, fountain, and library in addition to the mosque.

Yıldız is an underground station on the M7 line of the Istanbul Metro in Beşiktaş. The station is located on Barbaros Boulevard in the Yıldız neighborhood of Beşiktaş. With a depth of 71 meters, it is the deepest station in the Istanbul Metro system. The station has 3 entrances; Ertuğrul Sitesi, Yıldız University and Dikilitaş. The M7 line operates as fully automatic unattended train operation (UTO). The station consists of an island platform with two tracks. Since the M7 is an ATO line, protective gates on each side of the platform open only when a train is in the station.The station opened on 2 January, 2023 as the first phase of the Mecidiyeköy-Kabataş extension.

The Malta Kiosk (Turkish: Malta Köşkü), also known as the Malta Pavilion, is a historic imperial Ottoman residence located within the garden of the Yıldız Palace in Istanbul, Turkey. The two-storey pavilion was commissioned by Sultan Abdülaziz (reigned 1861–1876) as a hunting lodge, designed by the architect Sarkis Balyan in the neo-baroque style and completed in 1870. The pavilion, perched atop a steep hill, is one of the two lodges of its art within the Yıldız Park, the other one being the Çadır Pavilion (Turkish: Çadır Köşkü). It is located at the north side of the wall separating Yıldız Palace. There are also two watching and resting pavilions in the grove being the rear garden of Çırağan Palace from the Abdül Aziz I period. The origin of the name comes from the executive use of limestone from Malta, which is the prominent material used.

The Barbaros Boulevard (Turkish: Barbaros Bulvarı) is a 3.1 km (1.9 mi)-long major street in the Beşiktaş district on the European side of Istanbul, Turkey. It runs in a straight line in south–north direction from Beşiktaş Square over Yıldız up to Zincirlikuyu, where it passes over to Büyükdere Avenue. It is named after the Ottoman admiral of the fleet Hayreddin Barbarossa (Turkish: Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa) (c. 1478–1546), whose tomb is located in Beşiktaş. It is a major artery of the Istanbul Central Business District, which is not located in the historic center of the city, but rather north of Taksim Square.The 1.5 km (0.93 mi) long boulevard ascends a slope from 1.5 m (4.9 ft) elevation at Beşiktaş Square up to 135 m (443 ft) at Balmumcu before Zincirlikuyu. This part of the street is 50 m (160 ft) wide with a slope gradient of 8%, while the part between Balmumcu and Zincirlikuyu has a width of 30 m (98 ft) and a slope gradient of 2–3%.

Beşiktaş is a currently under construction underground metro station located on the M7 line of the Istanbul Metro, Currently on hold due to archeological excavation, and it is planned to have a museum in the station when completed. It is planned to be open in 2024, as there have also been archeological sites discovered at the Kabataş station.
