White Bear Lake (Dakota: Bde Maṭo Ská ) is a lake in northeastern Ramsey County and western Washington County in the U.S. state of Minnesota, in the northeast part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The city of White Bear Lake takes its name from the lake.

Mahtomedi ( MAH-toh-MEE-dy) is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 7,676 at the 2010 census. Mahtomedi is considered to be a suburb of St. Paul, and is located between St. Paul and Stillwater.

The Charles P. Noyes Cottage (also known as the Fillebrown House) was a summer home of Saint Paul pharmacist, Charles P. Noyes, who came to St. Paul in 1868. The cottage is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bellaire is an unincorporated community in White Bear Township, Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The community is located on the south shore of White Bear Lake, and is completely surrounded by the cities of White Bear Lake and Birchwood Village.

The White Bear Lake Armory in White Bear Lake, Minnesota is a building constructed in 1922–1923 as part of an expansion effort by the National Guard after the National Defense Act of 1920. The architecture reflects traditional castellated designs but also indicates a transition to more restrained designs. It was designed by P.C. Bettenburg and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2019. The building now houses the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society. The building has two sections: a two-story, flat-roofed, rectangular block used for administration, and a one-story, bowstring-roofed drill hall. The administration section is clad in brick and has crenellations on portions of the roofline, as well as brick quoining, pilasters, and a combination of a cornice, frieze, and architrave. The interior of the drill hall is one large open space and is marked as a basketball court. The drill hall also has a basement, which once contained a shooting range. The administration section has a catering kitchen, rooms for storage, and two offices on the second floor used by the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society. Besides National Guard functions, the armory was also used for community functions such as dances, roller skating, concerts, appearances by Santa Claus, carnivals, and sporting events. The building was hit by a devastating fire on December 7, 1928, which destroyed most of the front of the building. The administration section of the building was renovated and revised somewhat from its original appearance. From 1930 until the start of World War II, the armory still hosted events, but was not regarded as a community center. In September 1941, the building was hit by a tornado, damaging the roof of the drill hall. More repairs were made, and some strengthening was done. Some remodeling was done in the 1960s with three classrooms being built, along with updates to the building's mechanical systems. It was an older building at this point, though, and in the early 1970s, White Bear Lake was slated to receive a new armory building. This got a lukewarm response because there would be a cost to the city and because there were other options for a community facility, so a new armory was not built. In 1992, The Pentagon directed the National Guard to reduce its forces, and the state of Minnesota sought cost savings by closing older armories. The White Bear Lake Armory was selected to be closed because it had insufficient space for monthly training, it needed repairs, and it lacked accessibility. The building was turned over to the City of White Bear Lake that fall. In 1995, major renovations were accomplished such as replacing the front stairway, adding an elevator and new restrooms, adding a small kitchen in the administration block, and more updates to the building's mechanical systems. The drill hall is currently used for community events and is available for rental, while the administration section is used by the White Bear Lake Area Historical Society and the local Lions Club.

Wildwood Amusement Park was an amusement park and picnic grounds that existed from 1889 to 1932 on the southeast shore of White Bear Lake in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, United States. The park was built and operated by the Minneapolis and St. Paul Suburban Railroad Company, a subdivision of the Twin City Rapid Transit Company, which ran a streetcar line from Mahtomedi to nearby St. Paul. It was the sister park of Big Island Amusement Park on Lake Minnetonka, as both were intended to draw crowds of people to opposite ends of the Minneapolis-St. Paul streetcar system on weekends. Wildwood Amusement Park proved to be more successful than Big Island Amusement Park, which closed in 1911, and lasted until 1932 when financial losses brought about its demise.

The First National Bank of White Bear is a historic former bank building in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, United States, built in 1921. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places for having local significance in architecture and commerce. It is one of White Bear Lake's most architecturally sophisticated commercial buildings constructed before the 1940s. It also served a key financial role as White Bear Lake evolved from a resort town of summer homes for nearby Saint Paul into a full-fledged city with year-round residents.

Willernie is a city in Washington County, Minnesota, United States. It is bordered on all sides by the city of Mahtomedi. The population was 507 at the 2010 census.

The White Bear Lake Area School District, abbreviated WBLAS, is a public school district located in Ramsey County, Minnesota. It provides academic and educational services to the cities of Birchwood, Gem Lake, Hugo, Lino Lakes, Little Canada, Maplewood, North Oaks, Vadnais Heights, White Bear Lake and White Bear Township. The District consists of nine elementary schools, two middle schools, a two-campus high school and an Area Learning Center. The District also provides programs such as three locations for early childhood (birth-5), transition plus (special education 18-21) community services and senior programs. The school district covers a population of approximately 50,000 residents and provides services for nearly 9,000 students ranging from early childhood education to high school graduation to adult education and senior programs.

Mahtomedi Senior High School is a four-year public high school located in Mahtomedi, Minnesota, United States. The school houses grades 9–12 with a total population of approximately 1,146 students. About 22% of this population are from surrounding districts due to open enrollment. The school colors are blue and gold, and the athletic teams are known as the Zephyrs. The district (district #0832) was created in 1870, and the original high school was built in 1930. In 1970 a new high school building was constructed several miles south east of the original building and this remains the current high school campus. Based on standardized test scores the State of Minnesota has awarded the school a five-star rating, the highest level that can be achieved. In 2006, Newsweek ranked the school #675 in its "List of the 1200 Top High Schools in America." The school has also made adequate yearly progress in compliance with No Child Left Behind standards. As of 2015 the school had a demographic of 91% Caucasian, 2% Black, 2% Asian, 2% Two or more races, 2% Hispanic or Latino, and 1% Native American. Finally, out of the total population, 9% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Mahtomedi competes in the Metro East Conference (formerly known as the Classic Suburban Conference), having joined that conference at its inception in 2001 soon after being a founding member of the Metro Alliance in 1997. Prior to 1997, Mahtomedi was a member of the Tri-Metro Conference. The school was awarded the title "Exemplary High Performing Schools" along with being a profiled 2015 National Blue Ribbon School.
