The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (formerly the Royal Victoria Hospital) is an Advanced Level II facility with stroke designation, serving the needs of the population of the City of Barrie and the surrounding area. The facility is located at 201 Georgian Drive in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The CEO is Gail Hunt. As of 2017, the hospital operated on a $340 million annual budget.The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is a 299-bed acute care facility. With a team of over 380 physicians, 2,500 staff members and 850 volunteers, the RVH provides healthcare specializing in cancer care, surgical services, critical care, mental health rehabilitation services, as well as women and children's programs. The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre is the only hospital in Barrie and is the regional hospital for a large geographical region including central Simcoe County Barrie, Innisfil (Alcona, Stroud, Gilford), Springwater (Elmvale, Midhurst, Minesing, Snow Valley), south Oro- Medonte (Horseshoe Valley, Shanty Bay), a small portion of Essa Township (Ivy, Thornton). The hospital dates to 1891, when it was known as the Barrie General Hospital, which was located in a home at 105 Duckworth Street near Ardagh's Grove. The facility has relocated and expanded many times since its inception: 1897 BGH relocated to 63 High Street to R.E. Fletcher House and becomes RVH (since demolished) 1903 RVH relocated to purpose-built site at 76 Ross Street 1910-1911 Strathy Wing built 1952 Memorial Wing opened 1962-1963 Ross Street expansion (original 1903 and 1911 Strathy wing demolished) 1997 current site completed and old RVH repurposed as Victoria Village Seniors Retirement Community)

Eastview Secondary School is a public secondary school (grades 9-12) located in northeastern Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It has an enrollment of about 1,400 students. Eastview is one of the largest high schools in Barrie, Ontario, serving students from the east end of Barrie, as well as the south portions of Oro-Medonte Township (Horseshoe Valley, Shanty Bay, Crown Hill) and Springwater Township. It has a string-music program, making it unique in the county. The mascot of the school is a Wildcat.

Barrie/Little Lake Water Aerodrome (TC LID: CPT5) was located on Little Lake on the north side of Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The aerodrome served floatplanes, which parked along wooden docks along the south side of the lake, and was accessed via Little Lake Drive.

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB, known as English-language Separate District School Board No. 44 prior to 1999) administers and governs separate school Catholic education from kindergarten through grade 12 in Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka, in Ontario, Canada. As of 2018-2019, the school board has 41 elementary and 9 secondary schools located in communities throughout Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. Its boundaries are Highway 9 in the south to Huntsville in the north, and from Collingwood in the west to Brechin on the east side of Lake Simcoe. The board was originally known as Simcoe Muskoka Roman Catholic Separate School Board (SMRCSSB) and operated anglophone and francophone schools.

Barrie was a provincial electoral district in central Ontario, Canada. It was created for the 2007 provincial election. The entire riding was created from Barrie—Simcoe—Bradford. The riding includes all of the City of Barrie. In 2018, the district was dissolved into Barrie—Innisfil and Barrie—Springwater—Oro-Medonte.

Barrie North Collegiate Institute is a public secondary school (grades 9–12) located in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It was established in 1957 as part of the Simcoe County District School Board in southern Ontario. The principal is Kimberlee Hand. Barrie North CI has a catchment area of north Barrie, and a large rural portion of Springwater Township (villages of Midhurst & Minesing).

The Barrie Gaol, colloquially referred to as the Barrie Bucket, located at 87 Mulcaster Street in Barrie, Ontario, Canada, was a maximum-security facility housing offenders awaiting, trial, sentencing or transfer to federal and provincial correctional facilities, opened in 1841 and closed in 2001. It was replaced by the Central North Correctional Centre in the town of Penetanguishene, about 47 km northwest of Barrie. The gaol was designed by Toronto architect Thomas Young, who subscribed to the contemporary theory that a polygonal structure would make the occupants feel less confined. Construction of the gaol began in 1840. It is built from limestone from the quarry at Longford on the east side of Lake Couchiching.Five prisoners were hanged at this location: James Carruthers age 48 on 11 June 1873 for the murder of his wife; John Tryon age 47, on Dec 30, 1873 for the murder of Francis Fisher; George O'Neil, 47 years, on Jan 4, 1929, for the murders of Azor Robertson and Ruby Irene Martin; Thomas Wesley Campbell, age 54, on Jan 4, 1932, for the murder of William Campbell, his father; Lloyd Wellington Simcoe, age 18 in 1945 for murder. Others died during incarceration and are believed to be buried in the inner courtyard.The last inmate to reside at the Barrie Gaol was transferred to the Penetanguishene 'superjail' on December 7, 2001. It remains vacant to this day. The gaol served as the primary filming location for the movie Dark Reprieve (2008).

The MacLaren Art Centre is an art gallery and museum, located in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It is named in honour of Maurice MacLaren, who bequeathed his Victorian home, Maple Hill, to the Barrie Gallery Project in 1989. The MacLaren Art Centre later moved to the former City of Barrie library, a Carnegie building, and added to it; the new gallery opened in September 2001. The building was designed by Siamak Hariri of Hariri Pontarini Architects. The first piece in the gallery's collection is the Spirit Catcher, a sculpture by Ron Baird, first displayed at Expo '86 in Vancouver, and donated by the Peacock Foundation.

Meridian Place is an outdoor, urban amphitheatre located in the heart of Barrie, Ontario next to Memorial Square and north of Heritage Park. It's entirely concrete with various features built for seating for an amphitheatre.

The Barrie Bus Terminal, also called the Barrie Transit Terminal or Barrie Bus Depot, is an intercity and municipal bus station in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. It serves as one of five hubs for the local Barrie Transit system as well as the city's stop on intercity bus routes operated by GO Transit, and Ontario Northland. The terminal was built in 1991 to replace the old terminal across the street built in 1956. The building also houses some administration offices for Barrie Transit. On January 23, 2017, the Barrie City Council unanimously approved plans to turn the terminal building into a public market to attract tourists and residents to the city's waterfront. Local bus services will continue to use the building as a hub with new platforms built closer to the street, but all intercity bus services will be relocated to the nearby Allandale Waterfront GO Station. Construction of this project has yet to begin; the new Allandale hub is expected to open in 2025.

Barrie Uptown Theater (formerly Imperial 8 Cinema) was a movie theatre in downtown Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The cinema was built in 1937, and is home to the Barrie Film Festival. The building had 8 screens, though movies were only shown on 5 since its reopening. In the 60's it was 1 gigantic room and screen, with burgundy crush velvet pull up seats, with aisle lights and a uniformed usher with flashlight, also had a large full length upper balcony. The cinema was part of the now defunct Stinson Theatres chain. In February 2009, the Imperial 8 closed completely for several months, citing structural problems, lack of parking, and declining ticket sales. It was later purchased by local businessman Mark Porter and reopened on November 27, 2009 under the rebranded 'Barrie Uptown Theatre', including a licensed bar and reclining seats. In December 2014, Porter announced his intention to sell the building to developers.The property was later sold for redevelopment and closed its doors for regular screenings on October 31, 2019. However, organizers for the Barrie Film Festival still planned to use the theatre for the "foreseeable future".The theatre closed in 2021.

Barrie was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2015. It consisted of the City of Barrie in the County of Simcoe. It was created in 2003 when its predecessor, Barrie—Simcoe—Bradford, was redistributed. Barrie—Simcoe—Bradford consisted of the City of Barrie and the towns of Bradford West Gwillimbury and Innisfil. It had been formed in 1996 as Barrie—Simcoe from Simcoe Centre and York—Simcoe ridings, but its name was changed before an election was held.
