Lake Byllesby is a 1,432-acre (580 ha) artificial lake on the Cannon River in Dakota and Goodhue counties, in the U.S. State of Minnesota. The lake was formed as a result of construction of the Byllesby Dam by the H.M. Byllesby & Company, which would later become Northern States Power Company for hydroelectric power generation. Today, the lake serves as a popular recreational destination and is the largest lake in Southern Dakota County, approximately 30 miles (48 km) southeast of the Twin Cities. The Lake Byllesby Regional Park, operated by Dakota County Parks & Trails Department offers several boat launch facilities, RV and tent campground, hiking/biking trails, picnic areas, and a swimming beach on the northeast part of the lake. Goodhue County also operates a small park on the southeast part of the lake with picnic areas and a boat launch.The lake area is designated as an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society for its importance for bird habitat in the Cannon River Valley.

Randolph Township is a township in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 536 at the 2000 census. Randolph Township was organized in 1858, and named for John Randolph of Roanoke.

The Minnesota Senate, District 36 encompasses portions of Hennepin County and Anoka County in the northern Twin Cities metropolitan area. Before 2010, the district represented portions of Dakota County and portions of Goodhue County, and was one of eleven Senate Districts within Minnesota Congressional District 2. Lewiston is an extinct community in Sciota Township in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The community lies northeast of Northfield, and is nearest to the small city of Randolph. A town once larger than nearby Northfield; gone in only fifteen years, but this town set near the Cannon River and Alta Avenue was home to many Minnesotan politicians, such as Edward J. Thye, Minnesota's governor; Pierce Butler became a United States Supreme Court justice, and Loren W. Collins was a Minnesota Supreme Court justice. A flourishing town with a horseracing track and a hotel was the home of these political figures. From 1851 to 1866, a magnificent town stood where farmland is today. A good pitstop between Hastings and Faribault is all that remains of the now abandoned town is the 1860 schoolhouse turned Sciota township hall.

Lake Byllesby Dam is a concrete gravity dam located in Randolph Township, Dakota County and Stanton Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota, just west of the city of Cannon Falls. It is approximately 30 miles (48 km) southeast of the Twin Cities. The 75-foot (23 m)-high dam was built in 1910 by H.M. Byllesby & Company to impound the Cannon River for hydroelectric power. Its nameplate capacity is 1.8 MW. Byllesby, a former employee of both Edison and Westinghouse, formed what would become Northern States Power in 1909.The dam created Lake Byllesby, with a surface area of 1,432 acres (580 ha) and a capacity of 20,000 acre-feet (25,000,000 m3). The facility is owned and operated by Dakota County.

New Trier ( NEW CHREER) is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 112 at the 2010 census. Minnesota Highway 50 serves as a main route in the community.

The Church of Saint Mary's is a 1909 Beaux-Arts Catholic church, located at 8433 239th Street East, New Trier in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The bright red building sits high on a hill overlooking the town, which was settled by German immigrants from Trier. The immigrants began arriving in 1854, and in 1857, they built a log church. In 1864, they built a larger stone church on a hill above the town.In 1909 the congregation decided to build a new, larger church. George J. Ries of St. Paul, who also designed the Church of St. Agnes, used a Beaux-Arts style for the new church. It is built of red brick and can be seen for miles, being perched on a hilltop. The cornerstone from the old church is installed in the vestibule, and a five-foot tall statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary from 1862 is located in a shrine above the main entrance.The church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its association with the German immigrants who almost exclusively populated southeastern Dakota County in the second half of the 20th century.

The Waterford Bridge, formerly designated Bridge L0327 and now Bridge L3275, is a historic steel truss bridge over the Cannon River in Waterford Township, Minnesota, United States. It was constructed in 1909 and is one of the state's earliest surviving bridges to use rigid rather than pinned connections. Moreover, it is Minnesota's only known road bridge in which some of the rigid connections are fastened with bolts rather than rivets.The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010 for having state-level significance in the theme of engineering. It was nominated for being a rare surviving example of Minnesota's once-common camelback through truss bridges, and for its early and uniquely transitional rigid connections.
