Salem High School (New Jersey)

The Salem City School District is a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Salem City, in Salem County, New Jersey, United States. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide that were established pursuant to the decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority.Public school students from Elsinboro, Lower Alloways Creek Township, Mannington Township and Quinton Township attend the district's high school for grades 9-12 as part of sending/receiving relationships.The district participates in the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program, having been approved on November 2, 1999, as one of the first ten districts statewide to participate in the program. Seats in the program for non-resident students are specified by the district and are allocated by lottery, with tuition paid for participating students by the New Jersey Department of Education.As of the 2021–22 school year, the district, comprised of three schools, had an enrollment of 1,226 students and 99.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.4:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "A", the lowest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.

Salem is a city in Salem County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is the county seat of Salem County, the state's most rural county. The name Salem, for both the city and county, is derived from the Hebrew word shalom, meaning peace. As of the 2020 United States census, the city's population was 5,296, an increase of 150 (+2.9%) from the 2010 census count of 5,146, which in turn reflected a decrease of 711 (−12.1%) from the 5,857 counted in the 2000 census. Salem is part of the Delaware Valley or Philadelphia greater metropolitan area. The town and colony of Salem was laid out in 1675 by John Fenwick and the community was given permission to choose officers in October 1693. It was incorporated on February 21, 1798, as part of the initial group of 104 townships established by the New Jersey Legislature. On February 25, 1858, it was reincorporated as Salem City.Salem had the second-highest property tax rate in New Jersey, with an equalized rate of 6.519% in 2020, compared to 3.476% in Salem County and a statewide average of 2.279%.

Hedge–Carpenter–Thompson Historic District is located in Salem, Salem County, New Jersey, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 26, 2001.

The Old Salem County Courthouse is a courthouse located in Salem, Salem County, New Jersey.Built in 1735, this building is the oldest active courthouse in New Jersey and is the second oldest courthouse still in continuous use in the United States. It was expanded in 1818 and 1908.It is a contributing property of the Market Street Historic District.

The Port of Salem is a shallow-draft (16 feet) port in the vicinity of the Salem River Cut-Off on the Salem River in Salem, New Jersey in the United States about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of the Delaware River and about 54 miles (87 km) from the Atlantic Ocean. It was re-designated a port of entry in 1984 and became a foreign trade zone (FTZ) in 1987. Transloading operations include the handling of a variety of bulk cargo, notably of construction aggregate, break bulk cargo, and containers for clothing, fishing apparel, agricultural produce, and other consumer goods, and has at times involved lighterage. It is operated under the auspices of the South Jersey Port Corporation. The port is envisioned as being a component of the supply chain for the development of windpower in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New Jersey.

Johnson Hall is the house built by Colonel Robert Johnson in the Federal style for his new wife in 1806–7. It is in the historic Market Street of Salem, New Jersey. The house was left to Col. Johnson's daughter, Anna Hubbell. It subsequently became the property of the county and was moved when a new courthouse was built on the site. It is now used as the offices of local organisations including the Chamber of Commerce and Visitor's Center.

The Market Street Historic District is a 166-acre (67 ha) historic district located along Market Street in the downtown area of the city of Salem in Salem County, New Jersey, United States. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1975, for its significance in architecture, art, commerce, industry, military history, religion, social history, and transportation. The district includes 44 contributing buildings.

Elsinboro Township is a township in Salem County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 1,001, a decrease of 35 (−3.4%) from the 2010 census count of 1,036, which in turn reflected a decline of 56 (−5.1%) from the 1,092 counted in the 2000 census.Elsinboro's first mention dates back to May 12, 1701, though it was also mentioned in records on November 28, 1676. The details and date of its original incorporation are unknown. The township was incorporated by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1798, as one of New Jersey's original group of 104 townships. The township was named for Fort Nya Elfsborg.

Barrett's Plantation House is a historic home and bed and breakfast at 203 Old Kings Highway in Mannington Township, New Jersey. The original portion of the home was built in 1735 which includes a sitting room and dining room on the first floor, two guest rooms — the Dickinson Suite and the Morris Suite—on the second floor and the garret on the third floor. A kitchen was built onto the rear of the original structure in the mid-1800s, then the back section, consisting of a modern kitchen and owner's suite on the upper floor was built in 1991.
