Monticello High School is a four-year public high school in Monticello, New York. According to state test scores, 93% of students are at least proficient in math and 92% in reading.

Kutsher's Hotel and Country Club in Thompson, Sullivan County, near Monticello, New York, was the longest running of the Borscht Belt grand resorts in the Catskill Mountains region of New York State. While the region was open to any and all visitors, the Borscht Belt was so named due to the largely Jewish-American clientele that made the Catskills the primary vacation destination for Jews in the northeastern United States. Over the decades, performers such as David Brenner, Jerry Seinfeld, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Woody Allen and Joan Rivers appeared here. Rapper Ditch played here in 2012 as the final headlining set of the NY Harvest Festival, which had over 4,000 people watching. In 2013, a woman fell to her death from the hotel rooftop of the hotel preparing for the 2013 NY Harvest Festival, which halted it and anything going forward at the hotel again. The hotel closed in 2013, and some of the buildings were demolished in 2014; only three remained as of early 2020. The site was sold, and a wellness resort was built there, opening in June 2018.

Harris is a hamlet in the town of Thompson in east-central Sullivan County, New York, United States. The ZIP code for Harris is 12742. Harris is a small community located off New York State Route 17 (future Interstate 86) off exit 102 between Liberty and Monticello. In its heyday, during the 1950s and 1960s, Harris was a thriving resort community of bungalow colonies, hotels and rooming houses. These included Maybergs Colony and Siegels Colony and Rooming House on Harris Road, Partners colony on Big Woods Road, Victory Colony on Big Woods Road, Others included Betty D's Rooming House (replacing Siegel's), the Turey Hotel, the Louis Herskovitz Bungalow Colony, Princeton House and many others. There was a large lake present upstream of a large Dam with Waterfall on the East Mongaup River located on Mayberg's colony. During the summer months, a number of stores formed a small "downtown" area near the intersection of Harris Road and Big Woods Road. Today, the hamlet still contains a number of bungalow colonies. It is also the location of the Garnet Health's main hospital in the Catskills (as opposed to the smaller hospital in the western part of Sullivan County in Callicoon), and is the home of the Center for Discovery, a community for disabled residents that is also the largest employer in Sullivan County.

Sackett Lake is a lake in Thompson, New York with a small community that revolves around the lake by the same name. It is approximately 4 miles southwest of Monticello, the county seat of Sullivan County. The lake is 127 acres (51 ha) at an elevation of 1,329 feet (405 m).It includes Fireman's Camp (for use by the volunteer firefighters in the area), Beaver Dam, Winston Day Camp, and a JCC. Sackett Lake is now home to a large diverse community. It is a diverse and picturesque area that is just far enough from the village to feel very rural.

The Concord Resort Hotel (pronounced KAHN-cord, ()) was a resort in the Borscht Belt of the Catskills, known for its large resort industry in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Located in Kiamesha Lake, New York, United States, the Concord was the largest resort in the region and was also one of the last to finally close in 1998, long after the others closed. (A primary competitor, Grossinger's Catskill Resort Hotel, closed in 1986.) At the Concord, there were over 1,500 guest rooms and a dining room that sat 3,000; the resort encompassed some 2,000 acres (8.1 km2). The resort was a kosher establishment, catering primarily to Jewish vacationers from the New York City area, and it was more lavish in decor and activities than comparable large Catskill resorts.

Sullivan County is a county in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 78,624. The county seat is Monticello. The county's name honors Major General John Sullivan, who was labeled at the time as a hero in the American Revolutionary War in part due to his successful campaign against the Iroquois (see Sullivan Expedition). The county was the site of hundreds of Borscht Belt hotels and resorts, which had their heyday from the 1920s through the 1970s. In 2010, the state's center of population was at the southern edge of Sullivan County.

Mongaup Valley is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The community is located along New York State Route 17B 5 miles (8.0 km) west of Monticello, and along the Mongaup River. Mongaup Valley has a post office with ZIP code 12762, which opened on June 22, 1848.

The Raleigh Hotel is a resort hotel in South Fallsburg, New York, within the Borscht Belt region of the Catskill Mountains. The hotel was established in 1937 as a popular kosher destination catering to most traditional Jewish (observant and non-observant) travelers, as well as other religions welcomed. Situated on 200 acres (81 ha) of land in Upstate New York's Borscht Belt, located roughly 90 miles (140 km) from New York City and just outside the village of Monticello, the Raleigh has hosted several entertainers such as Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Mason, Milton Berle, Hal Rifken nee Jeffrin and Rodney Dangerfield. For many decades, Barry Frank was the Master of Ceremonies at the resort. The Raleigh's longtime owner Mannie Halbert died in 2004. The Raleigh temporarily closed in December 2005 and then reopened the following year under new ownership, as a retreat for mainly Orthodox Jews.

The Rivoli Theatre in South Fallsburg, New York, United States is located at the intersection of NY 42 and Laurel Avenue. It was built in 1923, renovated in the late 1930s and remains almost intact from that period. It was a major local source of entertainment, both live and filmed, in the area during the peak years of the Jewish summer resorts in that region of the Catskills. Today a community theatre program continues to put on plays there every summer. In 2001 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On July 6, 2012, the Rivoli Theatre once again began running movies. Using a Christie 35-mm projector and platter system, the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, Inc. (owners of the Rivoli Theatre) continued the film tradition. The first movie exhibited was Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted.

Sullivan County International Airport (IATA: MSV, ICAO: KMSV, FAA LID: MSV) is in Bethel, Sullivan County, New York. It is seven miles northwest of Monticello, a village in the Town of Thompson. The National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015 categorized it as a general aviation facility.Built in the 1960s, the airport is now a Part 139 certified airport capable of handling business jets.

The South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Synagogue is a historic Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue, located on Lake Street in the hamlet of South Fallsburg, New York, in the United States. Built in 1902, the synagogue underwent a major expansion in 1919 that included being raised a story. In 2000, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
