Cool Well is a historic home located near Mechanicsville, Hanover County, Virginia. It was built in 1834–1835, and is a small, 1+1⁄2-story, frame Tidewater cottage in the Federal style. The house sits on a brick foundation and has a gable roof with dormers.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

The Battle of Meadow Bridge (also known as Meadow Bridges and the Battle of Richmond Heights) was an engagement on May 12, 1864, in Henrico County, Virginia, during Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's Overland Campaign of the American Civil War. Following their victory at the Battle of Yellow Tavern on May 11, Union cavalry under Maj. Gen. Philip H. Sheridan advanced in the direction of the Confederate capital of Richmond. Caught in the narrow area between the fortifications of Richmond and the rain-swollen Chickahominy River, the Union troopers were subjected to fire from the artillery of Confederate Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee. Michigan cavalry under Brig. Gen. George A. Custer forced a crossing of a damaged railroad bridge, which was quickly rebuilt by engineers, allowing the troopers to escape to safety and continue their raid.

The Battle of Beaver Dam Creek, also known as the Battle of Mechanicsville or Ellerson's Mill, took place on June 26, 1862, in Hanover County, Virginia. It was the first major engagement of the Seven Days Battles during the Peninsula Campaign of the American Civil War. It was the start of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's counter-offensive against the Union Army of the Potomac, under Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, which threatened the Confederate capital of Richmond. Lee attempted to turn the Union right flank, north of the Chickahominy River, with troops under Maj. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, but Jackson failed to arrive on time. Instead, Maj. Gen. A.P. Hill threw his division, reinforced by one of Maj. Gen. D.H. Hill's brigades, into a series of futile assaults against Brig. Gen. Fitz John Porter's V Corps, which occupied defensive works behind Beaver Dam Creek. Confederate attacks were driven back with heavy casualties. Porter withdrew his corps safely to Gaines Mill, with the exception of Company F (a.k.a. The Hopewell Rifles) of the 8th Pennsylvania Reserve Regiment who did not receive the orders to retreat.

Totomoi is an historic plantation in Hanover County, Virginia. The 544-acre (220 ha) property is located at 8055 Rural Point Road, near Studley. The property was, according to long-held family tradition, believed to belong to the family as early as the 17th century, but the discovery in the 21st century of family records place its purchase to 1800. The main plantation house is a brick two story building constructed in 1800 by Thomas Tinsley, one of six generations of that name. The main block is three bays wide, with a broad hall across the front and two rooms behind. Additions in 1820 and 1840 added single story ells to the east side of the house. The property includes a cluster of early 20th century farm outbuildings, and probably contains archaeological remnants of its 19th-century structures. The property, was, as of 2012, still owned by Tinsley's descendants.Totomoi was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

It currently hosts two NASCAR Cup Series race weekends, hosts the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. It formerly hosted events such as the International Race of Champions, Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, and the USAC sprint car series. Richmond Raceway's unique "D" shape which allows drivers to reach high speeds. The tracks racing grooves, and proclivity for contact make Richmond a favorite among NASCAR drivers and fans.Nicknamed the "Action Track" and "America's Premier Short Track", Richmond sold out 33 consecutive NASCAR Cup Series races before the streak ended in September 2008 due to the Great Recession as well as the impact of Tropical Storm Hanna. Richmond has hosted the final "regular-season" race, leading up to the start of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, each year since the format was introduced in 2004 until 2018 when its second weekend was moved into the playoffs. In 2022, their second race weekend was moved into the Summer. Before 2019, the raceway had a track seating of 59,000.

Oakley Hill is a historic plantation house located near Mechanicsville, Hanover County, Virginia. It was built about 1839 and expanded in the 1850s. It is a two-story, frame I-house dwelling in the Greek Revival style. On the rear of the house is a 1910 one-story ell. The house sits on a brick foundation, has a standing seam metal low gable roof, and interior end chimneys. The front facade features a one-story front porch with four Tuscan order columns and a Tuscan entablature. Also on the property are a contributing smokehouse and servants' house.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
