The Allentown School District is a large, urban public school district located in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. The district is the fourth-largest school district in Pennsylvania as of the 2016-17 school year.The school district includes two large urban public high schools, Allen High School and Dieruff High School, each based in Allentown, for ninth through 12th grades. As of the 2022-23 school year, 15,999 students attend its 22 schools, according to data released by the National Center for Education Statistics. The school district encompasses approximately 17 square miles (44 km2). As of the 2020 census, the Allentown School District serves a resident population of 125,845. In 2009, the per capita income was $16,282 and median family income was $37,356 compared to a Pennsylvania median family income of $49,501 and overall U.S. median family income of $49,445 as of the 2010 census.The school district's demographics, as of 2016-17, are 9.9% White, 14.5% Black, 70.9% Hispanic, 1.3% Asian, and 0.2% Native American High school students in Allentown School District may choose to attend Lehigh Career and Technical Institute for vocational training.

Roberto Clemente Charter School

Roberto Clemente Charter School is a small, urban, public charter school located in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. The school is located at 4th and Walnut Streets in Allentown. It serves students in grades 6 through 12. As of the 2022–23 school year, the school had an enrollment of 628 students, according to National Center for Education Statistics data. Approximately 94% of the students then enrolled at Roberto Clemente Charter School were Hispanic. In 2011, Roberto Clemente Charter School applied to the Allentown School Board to broaden its program to include kindergarten through 5th grades. The application was denied by the Allentown School Board 5 against-4 vote. The Charter School's board appealed to the Pennsylvania Charter School Appeal Board, which in August 2013 reversed the Allentown School Board's denial decision, allowing the expansion of the charter school. In March 2014, Roberto Clemente Charter School reached an agreement to purchase a school building on Cedar Street in Allentown. Roberto Clemente Charter School is named for Roberto Clemente, a 12-time Gold Glove Award winner with the Pittsburgh Pirates whose Major League Baseball career was cut short by his 1972 death in a plane crash. Roberto Clemente Charter School is one of four public charter schools operating in Lehigh County in 2013. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education, in 2012, there were 50,605 children in Lehigh County who were enrolled in public charter schools.
