The New Zealand School of Music—Te Kōkī, at Victoria University of Wellington (NZSM), is located in Wellington, New Zealand. NZSM provides a tertiary teaching faculty with programmes in Classical Performance, Jazz Performance, Music Studies, Composition and Sonic Arts. It also provides the only postgraduate degree course in Music therapy available in the country. Now fully owned by Victoria University of Wellington, the school was originally established in 2006 as a joint venture between Victoria University of Wellington and Massey University. Te Kōkī (a reference to the 'Dawn Chorus') was chosen as the School's Māori name. The NZSM combined the strengths of the former Conservatorium of Music at Massey, and Victoria University's School of Music and as a limited liability company with two equal shareholders, was governed by a board of directors. On 1 July 2014, the School transitioned to full Victoria University of Wellington ownership. With a full tertiary programme and full range of degrees, NZSM has strengths in historical research, allowing a representation of scholarly expertise across multiple fields including musicology, opera studies, jazz, ethnomusicology, music and film, baroque and classical performance practice, contemporary performance, music technology, and electronic music.

The Malaghan Institute of Medical Research is an independent biomedical research institute based in Wellington, New Zealand. The Malaghan Institute specialises in the immune system, and how it can be harnessed to improve human health. Its key areas of research and discovery are cancer, asthma and allergy, infectious disease, gut health and brain health. In 2019, the Institute began New Zealand's first clinical trial of CAR T-cell therapy, trialling a third-generation CAR T-cell therapy in partnership with Wellington Zhaotai Therapies. The concept of a Wellington-based, independent medical research institute was first proposed in the early 1960s. At that time, relatively little medical research was carried out in New Zealand due to a lack of facilities and support by hospital boards. Using funds from a trust established by the Wellington Medical Research Foundation and the Wellington Division of the Cancer Society, the Wellington Cancer and Medical Research Institute was opened on 26 July 1979, in rented premises in the Wellington School of Medicine. In 1986, the name of the Institute was changed to the Malaghan Institute of Medical Research in recognition of the generous support by Len Malaghan, the co-founder of Tip Top Ice Cream Ltd (later General Foods) and his wife Ann, whose gift of 100,000 shares in the company seeded the Institute. Len died of cancer in 1967 at the relatively young age of 61.The Institute is a registered charity, relying on support from the community, the corporate sector and contestable grants. In 2004 the Institute relocated to a purpose-built facility at Victoria University of Wellington. The founding Director was Dr William Stehbens. Current Director Professor Graham Le Gros was appointed Research Director of the Malaghan Institute in 1994, following a three-year Fogarty Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, Washington DC, and a five-year scientist position with Ciba-Geigy in Basel, Switzerland. In 2014 he was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to medical research.

The Antarctic Research Centre (ARC) is part of the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences at Victoria University of Wellington. Its mission is to research "Antarctic climate history and processes, and their influence on the global climate system. The current director of the Antarctic Research Centre is Associate Professor Robert McKay.

The Victoria University of Wellington (Māori: Te Herenga Waka) is a public university in Wellington, New Zealand. It was established in 1897 by Act of Parliament, and was a constituent college of the University of New Zealand. The university is well known for its programmes in law, the humanities, and some scientific disciplines, and offers a broad range of other courses. Entry to all courses at first year is open, and entry to second year in some programmes (e.g. law, criminology, creative writing, architecture, engineering) is restricted. Victoria had the highest average research grade in the New Zealand Government's Performance Based Research Fund exercise in both 2012 and 2018, having been ranked 4th in 2006 and 3rd in 2003. Victoria has been ranked 215th in the World's Top 500 universities by the QS World University Rankings (2020).

Wellington College of Education (formerly Wellington Teachers' Training College) was established in 1888 with the purpose of educating teachers in New Zealand. It became the Faculty of Education of Victoria University of Wellington, formed from the School of Education (of the Faculty of Humanities of Social Sciences) of the University, and the Wellington College of Education on 1 January 2005.From 1968 to 2016, it occupied an architecturally award winning campus in the Wellington suburb of Karori, designed by local architect William Toomath. The campus was awarded an NZIA Silver Medal (1972), and an NZIA Local Award (Enduring Architecture) (2005). The campus had many facilities including a marae called Ako Pai Marae that was closed in 2016.

The Hunter Building is the original building of Victoria University of Wellington's Kelburn campus in Wellington, New Zealand. It is a major landmark in the Wellington region and closely associated and considered a symbol of the university. The distinct architecture of the building is a notable example of Edwardian Gothic-revival, with red brick and Oamaru stone façade, along with grand internal entrances, staircases and original university library. The building is a noteworthy example of work from the Wellington architectural practice of Penty & Blake. While opened on the 30th of March 1906, the building was not completed to its original design, but was progressively added to as the college grew. The building is named after Sir Thomas Alexander Hunter, a well regarded professor of mental science and political economy. Following the end of the Great War, northern and southern wings were added to the building, providing new teaching areas, recreational spaces and a new library. The Hunter Building once housed the entire university, and some of New Zealand's most respected academics along with thousands of students have taught, worked and studied in this building. It is now the administrative centre of the university, being home to the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, the university Council Chamber and the Victoria Room, and a number of pieces of the Victoria University of Wellington Art Collection.

Inverlochy House (also known as Inverlochie House and Inverlochy Flats) is a historic building and art school in Wellington, New Zealand. The house was originally built for the Wellingtonian councillor Kennedy Macdonald in 1878. When the estate was auctioned in 1893, due to Macdonald's bankruptcy, the building was described as having: 14 rooms, 2 bathrooms, every modern convenience, water laid on, 2 conservatories, a vinery, a fernery, fowl house, wash house and offices, stable with 2 stalls and loose box, being in a salubrious and fashionable location, and an unrivalled family residence In 1980 the Williams Development Holdings Limited gifted Inverlochy House to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts for the use of the Williams School of Art at Inverlochy Incorporated.The building is classified as a Category 2 historic building by Heritage New Zealand.

Victoria House is the oldest of the residential colleges of Victoria University of Wellington located in the city of Wellington in New Zealand. It is home to 182 undergraduates. Opened in 1907 as the Women Student's Hostel Society, Victoria House is the longest established hall of residence at Victoria University of Wellington, and the second hall of residence for women students in New Zealand.

The Aro Valley forms a small inner-city suburb of Wellington in New Zealand. It takes its name from the stream which originally flowed where modern Epuni Street is. The stream's Māori name was originally Wai-Mapihi, but it was commonly called Te Aro Stream due to it running through the Te Aro flat.

The Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA; Māori: Te Mana Whanonga Kaipāho) is a New Zealand Crown entity created by the Broadcasting Act 1989 to develop and uphold standards of broadcasting for radio, free-to-air and pay television. The main functions of the BSA are to develop and maintain codified broadcasting standards and to operate a complaints procedure. The BSA is made up of a board appointed for a fixed term by the Governor-General on the advice of the Minister of Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media, meaning that practically the Minister of Broadcasting (and Cabinet) appoint the board. The chair is always a barrister. One member is appointed after consultation with broadcasters and one after consultation with public interest groups. Complaints regarding breaches of broadcasting standards can only be brought to the BSA after first being raised with the broadcaster. In March 2013, the Law Commission proposed moving complaints about news and current affairs out of the jurisdiction of the BSA, the Press Council, and the Online Media Standards Authority, placing them under a proposed new body, the News Media Standards Authority.

Kelburn is a central suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand, situated within 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) of the central business district. Kelburn sits on the hills just west of the capital's central business district and is bordered by the Botanic Garden and the suburbs of Thorndon and Northland to the north, the suburbs of Karori and Highbury to the south west, and Aro Valley to the south.

McGavin House, also known as the former Red Cross Building, is a building in Wellington, New Zealand, classified as a "Category I" ("places of 'special or outstanding historical or cultural heritage significance or value'") historic place by Heritage New Zealand.The building was designed by Willilam Turnbull and constructed in 1907 for Dr Donald McGavin as his home and surgery. The building is constructed of brick with decorative jarrah timber facings in a Tudor style. It was painted white in the 1940s. Other Tudor features are the leadlight windows, slightly projecting upper floor with exposed beams and lead rainwater head with the date 1908 beaten into it. Inside, the original hall, staircase, dining room and drawing room were lined with wood panelling, and the plaster ceilings were decorated with cornices and modelled ornament. Dr McGavin lived in the building until the 1940s. From 1944 to 1947 the building was occupied by the United Industries Club, an organisation created to support young women living away from home in the city. In 1947 The Red Cross bought the building and it was used as their regional centre until 1981. It later became known as 'The Manor' and rooms were rented out as medium- to long-term accommodation.
