Aluva (Malayalam: [aːluʋɐ]; also known by its former name, Alwaye) is a municipality in the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. Aluva is situated 14.5 km (9.0 mi) from Kochi, along the banks of the Periyar River, and is a part of the Kochi metropolitan area. Aluva is a transportation hub, connecting North Malabar and Central Kerala to Kochi. The Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery, located 11.7 km (7.3 mi) from Aluva, is an aviation hub hosting both domestic and international flights. Aluva is also the northern terminus of the Kochi Metro. Aluva, home to the summer residency of the Travancore royal family (the Alwaye Palace), is also known for the Sivarathri festival, which is celebrated annually on the sandbanks of Periyar. The Advaita Ashram in Aluva, which was founded in 1913 by Sree Narayana Guru, an Indian social reformer, adds to the cultural aspect of the region. Today, despite being a part of the city as well as the Kochi urban agglomeration, Aluva is still an autonomous municipality, with its civic administration conducted by the Aluva Municipal Council, since Kochi Corporation has not expanded its limits for over 53 years. Aluva also serves as the administrative center of the Aluva taluk. The taluks of villages including Mukundapuram, Kanayannur, Kunathunad and North Paravur were combined to form the Aluva taluk in 1956. The headquarters of the District Police Chief of Ernakulam Rural Police District, Superintending Engineer, PWD (Roads) and the District Educational Officer are also located there. It is the northern starting point of Kochi Metro rail's first phase, which began its operations in June 2017, as well as the Kochi city bus network. The Metro station is at Bypass, Aluva.

Uliyannoor (also known as Uliyannore) is a small village situated near Aluva within the Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. The village lies on the banks of the Periyar river (also known as "Aluva puzha"), close to Varapuzha and North Paravur. The villages Uliyannoor and Kunjinikkara lying between two distributaries of the Periyar river that rejoin in Kayantikkara.

Aluva Mahadeva Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, and situated on the bank of the Periyar River at Aluva manappuram in suburban Kochi. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, located in main Sanctum Sanctorum, facing east. According to folklore, sage Parashurama has installed the idol. It is the part of the 108 Shiva Temples of Kerala. The temple is mostly known for the Aluva Sivarathri festival.

Marthanda Varma Bridge is a twin-bridge located in the city of Aluva, in the Ernakulam district, Kerala, India. The bridges lie on the NH 66 connecting the banks of the Periyar river. The old bridge opened in June 1940 is the second arch bridge in Asia, which was built in memory of Marthanda Varma, the sculptor of Travancore. A new bridge was built parallel to the old bridge to increase the traffic capabilities to four lanes, which was opened to the public in June 2002. The Marthanda Varma Bridge is regarded as one of the most important landmarks of Aluva and played a major role in its development into an industrial city. It has been featured in many Malayalam films and literary works.

Aluva is an elevated metro station serving as the northern terminal of the Kochi Metro. It is located besides the Aluva flyover near the Aluva market and the banks of the Periyar river. Spread over an area of 1.5 lakh square feet, it is Kochi Metro’s second biggest station after Vadakkekota. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 17 June and opened for public on 19 June 2017 as a part of the first stretch of the metro system, between Aluva and Palarivattom. Aluva Metro station has Periyar river as its theme. Along with images of rivers, the floors of the station are also designed to symbolize the river water resources.

Aluva railway station (Code: AWY) is a railway station in the city of Aluva in the Ernakulam district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is an NSG 3 grade station under Thiruvananthapuram railway division. The station lies in the Shoranur–Cochin Harbour section of Thiruvananthapuram railway division. It is located right aside Aluva KSRTC bus stand, one of the main bus terminals in Ernakulam district, and a kilometre away from Aluva metro station of the Kochi Metro.Aluva is an important halting stop for all passenger trains passing through the region except Rajadhani Express and a few super fast trains. It is a convenient station to alight for passengers traveling to Kalamassery, North Paravur, Idukki District, Kodungallur, Perumbavoor, Kakkanad, Kizhakkambalam, Kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha. It also serves passengers to and from Cochin International Airport. It is the third busiest railway station in Ernakulam district, after Ernakulam Junction railway station and Ernakulam Town railway station. The station also handles the highest number of migrant labourers in the state since it is closest to Perumbavoor, a suburban town in Kochi Urban Agglomeration.

Aluva KSRTC bus station is a transport hub in the Indian city of Aluva, owned and operated by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). An important transport hub in the state, the station is located left aside Aluva railway station, one of the busiest railway stations in the Ernakulam district, and a kilometre away from Aluva metro station of Kochi Metro.

Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan Higher Secondary School (VVBHSS) is an educational institution in Aluva, Kerala, India. It is functioning under the Geetha Bhavan Trust formed by Swami Gopalananda Theertha.

Thrikkunathu Seminary is a historic seminary under the ownership of Malankara Orthodox Church in Aluva, Ernakulam.Owing to an ownership dispute between the factions,the Methran Kakshi and the Bava Kashi, the seminary was closed in December 1977. The church is a pilgrimage site for Christians in India. It is the head quarters of Angamaly diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church .

Union Christian College, Aluva (known as UC College) is a college affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It is one of the earliest colleges in India to be established and managed by Indian Christians. It was founded in 1921 by four young graduates and teachers of Madras Christian College - Prof. K. C. Chacko, Prof. C. P. Mathew, Prof. V. M. Ittiyerah and Prof. A. M. Varki. It is situated by the banks of Periyar (river) in Aluva (Alwaye), Kerala, India.

Aluva State assembly constituency is one of the 140 state legislative assembly constituencies in Kerala state in southern India. It is also one of the 7 state legislative assembly constituencies included in the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency. As of the 2016 assembly elections, the current MLA is Anwar Sadath of INC.
