New Marlborough, Massachusetts

New Marlborough Village is a historic district encompassing the heart of the oldest village in New Marlborough, Massachusetts. It includes properties on Massachusetts Route 57, New Marlborough, Monterey and Southfield Roads. It was the town's civic heart through the late 19th century, and retains character from that period. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Dry Hill is a 206-acre (0.83 km2) nature preserve in New Marlborough, Massachusetts and is managed by the Trustees of Reservations, who acquired the land in 2000. It includes a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) hiking trail of medium to strenuous difficulty.

SouthField is a form-based code planned community located on the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. It is a 1,400-acre (6 km2) site 12 miles (19 km) south of Boston that overlaps three towns: Weymouth, Abington, and Rockland. Developed by LNR Property Corporation, SouthField will contain 2,855 housing units and up to 2,000,000 square feet (186,000 m2) that include single-family homes, apartments, and townhouses. The site will also have up to 1.7 million square feet of commercial development, a 45-acre recreational facility, an 18-hole golf course, walking trails and 1,000 acres of undeveloped land.The project encompasses the pre-existing South Weymouth South MBTA station (Old Colony Purple Line) and includes a new 3.5 mile parkway which will connect Route 18 with Route 3. Governor Deval Patrick has committed $42.5 million in a 30-year bond bill that includes $15 million in federal stimulus money to go with $8 million in previous federal aid.New residents began moving into SouthField's first neighborhood, SouthField Highlands in 2011. The Highlands comprises four distinct (and different) residential options: The Commons (apartments), The Meadows (townhomes and single-family homes), Parkview Village (townhomes and single-family homes) and Fairing Way (55+ apartment living). The SouthField Form-Based Code community is only 12 miles south of Boston.

Questing is a 438-acre (177 ha) open space preserve and colonial era historic site located in New Marlborough, Massachusetts within The Berkshires. The property, acquired in 1996 by the land conservation non-profit organization The Trustees of Reservations, is named for a mythical beast from Arthurian Mythology called the Questing Beast. The reservation includes hiking trails, open meadows and hay fields, vernal pools, and streams. It is open to hiking, picnicking, cross country skiing, and hunting (in season). A trailhead is located on New Marlborough Hill Road in New Marlborough. Bikes, snowmobiles and motorized vehicles are prohibited.

Mill River Historic District is a historic district encompassing the traditional center of government and a former industrial mill village along the Konkapot River in the village of Mill River in New Marlborough, Massachusetts. The district is roughly bounded by Main Street and River Church, Southfield, Clayton, School, and Hayes Hill Roads. It encompasses about 425 acres (172 ha), and contains mostly 19th century residential and civic buildings, as well as remnants of 19th century industrial activity.The principal defining feature of the district is its narrow setting along the Konkapot River. The significant drop of the river in the area (129 feet (39 m) over a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) stretch of the river) prompted the construction of many dams and mills, of which remnants of eight survive. The housing stock in the village was built mainly in the first half of the 19th century, during the height of industrial activity, and features simple two story wood frame housing, usually with Greek Revival styling. Some houses predate the industrial period, and a number of houses were built later in the 19th century. The village declined in importance as an industrial center after the railroad was built through town, but not near the village, and most of its industrial infrastructure was eventually abandoned.The civic buildings in the district include two Romanesque churches built in the 1860s, as well as the town hall, library, and school. A few commercial buildings from the era have also survived, including the current general store. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

The Thomas Shepard House is a historic house at 764 East Hill Road in New Marlborough, Massachusetts, United States. It is one of the older homes in New Marlborough (built 1798), and is one of three 18th century houses on a 3-mile (4.8 km) stretch of East Hill Road, which was then one of only three roads in the town. Thomas Shepard, for whom it was built, was a major figure in the town's early history. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Sandisfield State Forest is a Massachusetts state forest filled with rolling hardwood forests in the town of Sandisfield. It is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. A highlight of the forest is York Lake, which was created from swampy ground by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935.

The Umpachene River is an 8.3-mile-long (13.4 km) tributary of the Housatonic River in New Marlborough, Massachusetts. Issuing from small ponds and wetlands on the east side of town, it meanders generally westward through mostly wooded areas before emptying into the Konkapot River near the village of Southfield.

Lake Buel is a 196-acre (0.79 km2) great pond in Berkshire County, Massachusetts just south of Route 57 and east of Great Barrington. It is surrounded by over one-hundred summer homes and a few dozen year-round homes in about a dozen separate, tight-knit neighborhoods, each with its own private or semi-private road. The roads do not interlink.The lake is named after Samuel C. Buel of Tyringham, Massachusetts who saved people from drowning on the lake (called at the time Six Mile Pond) on July 23, 1812.The northern shore of the lake is in the town of Monterey and the southern shore is in New Marlborough. There is a paved boat ramp on the northwest shore owned by the Public Access Board and managed by Forests and Parks and Fisheries and Game. A portion of the Appalachian Trail crosses over a breached mill dam along the northern inlet.
