Glen Oaks High School (GOHS) is located in Merrydale, unincorporated East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States, near the city of Baton Rouge. The school, opened in 1960, is part of East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools. The current principal is Edward Hunter.

Forest Heights Academy of Excellence is an academic/visual & performing arts magnet school located on Sumrall Drive and is part of East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools. As of 2008 it is a National Blue Ribbon school.The school serves students in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade.

The Earl K. Long Medical Center, named after the Louisiana politician Earl K. Long, was an acute-care hospital located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The hospital was a member of the Louisiana State University Medical Center (LSUMC). Earl K. Long Medical Center was responsible for providing care to several state parishes. Earl K. Long was a public facility, and was run by the state of Louisiana. Various outpatient and inpatient services are no longer provided at this facility. The cornerstone of the building was laid October 2, 1967 and the hospital opened on March 5, 1968. Demolition of the building began on June 12, 2015.

The area code was created in August 1998 in an area code split from area code 504. The area code was Louisiana's third area code, and the first new area code in the state in forty-one years. The numbering plan area (NPA) comprises the parishes of Ascension, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana. On a standard telephone keypad, the numbers 2-2-5 correspond to the letters C-A-J, a nod to the area's Cajun heritage. The area code has become part of the regional identity for the Baton Rouge metropolitan area, to the extent that a local news magazine was named 225, published by Louisiana Business Inc.

Franciscan High School, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, opened in August 2016, as Cristo Rey Franciscan High School and part of the Cristo Rey Network. In July 2022, the school became known as Franciscan High School, operating with the sponsorship of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady and within the Diocese of Baton Rouge. The school closed on June 2, 2023.

On July 5, 2016, Alton Sterling, a 37-year-old black man, was shot and killed by two Baton Rouge Police Department officers, Blane Salamoni and Howie Lake II, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The officers, who were attempting to control Sterling's arms, shot Sterling to death, which was preceded by Salamoni threatening Sterling with his gun before Sterling was restrained, yelling that he would "shoot [Sterling] in the fucking head" if he moved. Police alleged that Sterling had reached for the loaded handgun in his pants pocket. Police were responding to a report that Sterling was selling CDs and that he had used a gun to threaten a man outside a convenience store. The owner of the store where the shooting occurred said that Sterling was "not the one causing trouble" during the situation that led to the police being called. The shooting was recorded by multiple bystanders. The shooting led to protests in Baton Rouge and a request for a civil rights investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. In May 2017 they decided not to file criminal charges against the police officers involved. In response, Louisiana's attorney general, Jeff Landry, said the state of Louisiana would open an investigation into the shooting once the Department of Justice released the physical evidence. In March 2018, Landry's office announced it would not bring charges against the officers stating that they acted in a "reasonable and justifiable manner".In February 2021, nearly five years after the shooting, the East Baton Rouge Metro Council approved a $4.5 million settlement for the family of Alton Sterling to settle a wrongful death suit. The family accepted the settlement a few months later and the case was closed.

Istrouma High School is an accredited public school located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States. It was founded in 1917, and is located in East Baton Rouge Parish. Its name is a local Indian word meaning "red stick". Red stick is also the English language translation of the French words baton rouge. The area of north Baton Rouge where the school is located is also known as the Istrouma area.

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport (IATA: BTR, ICAO: KBTR, FAA LID: BTR), also known as Ryan Field, is a public use airport located four miles (7 km) north of the central business district of Baton Rouge, a city in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States.The airport was originally Harding Field during World War II and was used by the United States Army Air Forces Technical Service Command as a maintenance and supply base. Its uses also included training pilots to fly P-47 Thunderbolts. One of the Thunderbolt pilots trained at Harding was Quentin Aanenson, who survived the war, and in 2007 appeared in Ken Burns' The War, a PBS film about World War II. Training was dangerous, The War noting that "Five members of Aanenson's group of 40 trainees died before they got a chance to go overseas". Many other aircraft were used at Harding, including P-40 Warhawks, P-39 Airacobras, A-36 Apaches, and B-26 Marauders.Today, other than the runways, virtually no traces remain of the military installation.
