The Battle of Glenn Máma or Glenmama (Irish: Cath Ghleann Máma, The Battle of "The Glen of the Gap") took place most probably near Lyons Hill in Ardclough, County Kildare, Ireland, in AD 999 between Windmill Hill and Blackchurch. It was the decisive and only engagement of the brief Leinster revolt of 999–1000 against the King of Munster, Brian Boru. In it, the combined forces of the Kingdoms of Munster and Meath, under King Brian Boru and the High King of Ireland, Máel Sechnaill II, inflicted a crushing defeat on the allied armies of Leinster and Dublin, led by King Máel Mórda of Leinster. The two armies met in a narrow valley, causing a rout of Máel Mórda's army in at least three directions. They were pursued, and the main body of the army was slaughtered when they rallied at several fording points along the River Liffey. The main commanders were either killed or captured. The battle resulted in the occupation of Dublin by Brian's Munster forces, and the submission of Máel Mórda and King Sigtrygg Silkbeard of Dublin to Brian Boru. The solution did not prove permanent, however, and eventually resulted in the second Leinster revolt against Brian and the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.

St Finian's church is a Church of Ireland building in the village of Newcastle, County Dublin. The core structures of the church, including the west tower and chancel, are dated to the 15th century. These includes a residential tower, attached to the church, in which the priest lived. In the late 15th century, an elaborate window was added on the eastern side. Other structures of the church date from redevelopments and expansion works in the late 18th century.Newcastle, at the edge of the Pale, was frequently attacked by the Irish striking out from the Wicklow Mountains; by the early 15th century there were six fortified tower-houses in Newcastle. The tower in the church is the only one still remaining in a habitable condition.The Roman Catholic church in Newcastle, also dedicated to Saint Finian, was built in 1813. Both churches, Catholic and Episcopalian, are included on the Record of Protected Structures by South Dublin County Council.

Newcastle (Irish: An Caisleán Nua) is a village in the south-western part of South Dublin county, Ireland. It is also a civil parish in the barony of the same name. It was the location of the castle of the barony, which in historical and official documents is described as Newcastle-Lyons. The area is still primarily rural in nature. Newcastle village is within the administrative area of South Dublin County Council.

Lyons Demesne, also Lyons Estate, is a country house and estate in Lyons Hill, County Kildare, Ireland. It is located near Newcastle Demesne and Celbridge, to the northeast of Tipperstown, 24.8 kilometres (15.4 mi) west of the city centre of Dublin. The Georgian house, completed in 1797 under architect Oliver Grace, is set in 600 acres (240 ha). Historically, Lyons was the setting of a notable duel between Daniel O'Connell and John D'Esterre. University College Dublin, Lyons Research Farm consists of a portion of the original Lyons Estate and is used by the School of Agriculture, Food Science and Veterinary Medicine for teaching and research activities.

Aimsir (Irish: [ˈamʲʃəɾʲ], "weather, season") is a restaurant in County Kildare, Ireland. The head chef is Jordan Bailey, formerly of Maaemo, and his wife Majken Bech is manager.Located in Lyons Demesne next to Aylmer Bridge on the Grand Canal, Aimsir opened in 2019 and won two Michelin stars in its first year, one of only four Irish restaurants ever to get that honour.

Hazelhatch (Irish: Collchoill) is a townland in South Dublin on the border with County Kildare in Ireland. It is located on the R405 regional road, approximately halfway between Celbridge and Newcastle. The Grand Canal passes through the area, and Hazelhatch is one of the places of recreational activity along the Grand Canal, with fishing and boating. There is one pub in Hazelhatch, beside the canal. Although there is no conventional village centre, there is a concentration of one-off houses in the surrounding area. As of the 2011 census, Hazelhatch townland had a population of 62 people.

Hazelhatch and Celbridge railway station serves the area around Hazelhatch in South Dublin and the large town of Celbridge in neighbouring County Kildare, Ireland. Because of its distance from Celbridge town (2.4 km / 1½ miles south of the town centre), a feeder bus is provided to transport people to and from the station. The county boundary between Dublin and Kildare runs directly through the station.

Celbridge is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Celbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. They were awarded Kildare GAA club of the year in 2008, winners of the Kildare senior football championship of 2008, finalists in the senior football league of 1923, 1988 and 2008 and won the Kildare senior hurling and camogie championships in 2005. The club has also won several honours at underage levels in all three codes, qualifying for national finals in football, hurling and camogie at the 2008 Féile.

Lyons Hill or Lyons (Irish: Liamhain) is a townland and restored village in County Kildare. At a time when canal passenger boats travelled at 3 mph (4.8 km/h) Lyons was the nearest overnight stop to Dublin on the Grand Canal. On the hilltop is a trigonometrical point used by Ireland's Ordnance Survey. The name derives from the Irish language name for an elm tree, Liamhan.
