Homebush railway station

Homebush is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is located 12 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Strathfield. The name of the suburb derives ultimately from an estate to the north, called "Home Bush" and owned by colonial surgeon D'Arcy Wentworth. The historic railway station named after the estate was briefly the early terminus of the Great Western Line in 1855. The historic Village of Homebush estate, south of the railway, was developed in 1878 and survives largely intact. It became part of Strathfield Municipality along with the suburbs of Redmyre and Druitt Town in 1885. North Homebush, north of the railway, experienced industrial and residential development in the early 20th century and was a separate municipality. The modern suburb was formed when a small part of Strathfield, immediately south of Homebush railway station, was combined with the eastern part of former Homebush municipality in 1947. In the early 21st century, North Homebush has experienced significant population growth due to high density residential developments. The village and later suburb of "Homebush" was named after the railway station built in 1855, which in turn was named after the separate "Home Bush Estate" further north. Homebush West is another separate suburb to the west, also known as "Flemington". Also taking its name from the Home Bush Estate is Homebush Bay (early known as The Flats), a major inlet on the southern side of the Parramatta River to the north west of the Home Bush Estate. Most of the former "Home Bush Estate" was later a separate suburb of former Auburn Council named "North Lidcombe", and (from 1989) "Homebush Bay", most of which became in 2009 the suburb of Olympic Park in the City of Parramatta, and a smaller part became the suburb of Wentworth Point.

Strathfield Girls High School is a single-sex comprehensive high school located in the municipality of Strathfield in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, along with its brother school, Homebush Boys High School.

The Seminary of the Good Shepherd is the seminary of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, and a number of dioceses from the province of New South Wales and beyond, including the Diocese of Broken Bay, Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, Diocese of Wollongong, Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle and Diocese of Bathurst. The seminary is principally administered by the Archdiocese of Sydney.

The Strathfield rail underbridges are heritage-listed railway bridges located on the Main Southern and Main Western railway lines, in Strathfield in the Municipality of Strathfield local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The underbridges are also known as Strathfield rail underbridges (flyover) and Strathfield Flyover. The property is owned by RailCorp, an agency of the Government of New South Wales. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.The underbridges can be viewed from Cooper Street, near its intersection with Leicester Ave, Strathfield.

North Strathfield is a suburb in the inner-west of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. North Strathfield is located 15 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. Strathfield and Strathfield South are separate suburbs, to the south.

The Catholic Institute of Sydney, a tertiary educational facility that is a member institution of the Sydney College of Divinity, delivers theological studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications. The institute is located in Strathfield, in the inner western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In 1996 the Institute superseded St Patrick's College, Manly and St Columba's College, Springwood (itself earlier superseded in 1977) as the sole ecclesiastical theology faculty for the Catholic Church in New South Wales. The Seminary of the Good Shepherd, located at Homebush, is the house of formation and prepares students who are studying for ordination to the priesthood in the Catholic Church.

North Strathfield railway station is located on the Main Northern line, serving the Sydney suburb of North Strathfield. It is served by Sydney Trains T9 Northern Line services.

Meriden, An Anglican School for Girls is an independent Anglican single-sex early learning, primary, and secondary day school for girls, located in Strathfield, an inner-western suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Founded in 1897 by Jane Monckton, the school has a non-selective enrolment policy and currently caters for approximately 1650 students from early learning, through Year K to Year 12. Meriden is affiliated with the Association of Heads of Independent Girls' Schools (AHIGS), the Alliance of Girls' Schools Australasia, the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA), and the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA).

St Peter and St Paul Russian Orthodox Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox cathedral church at 3–5 Vernon Street, Strathfield, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The cathedral was built from 1951 to 1954. The cathedral is the seat for the Russian Orthodox Diocese of Australia since 1954, currently Bishop George Schaefer.The cathedral is listed on the Strathfield Local Environmental Plan. The Royal Australian Institute of Architects has included the building on its list of Twentieth Century Significant Buildings.

The McDonald College is an independent co-educational specialist primary and secondary day and boarding school with speciality in the creative and performing arts, located in North Strathfield, an inner western suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1984, the school currently caters for approximately 440 students from Kindergarten to Year 12, including 45 boarders of all genders from Year 7 to Year 12. It is Australia's only Kindergarten to Year 12, independent school that provides specialist training in the performing arts on a daily basis.The college is a member of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA), the Junior School Heads Association of Australia (JSHAA), the Australian Boarding Schools' Association (ABSA), and the Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales (AISNSW).

The Strathfield massacre was a shooting rampage at a shopping centre in Strathfield, Sydney, Australia, on 17 August 1991. The shooter was Wade Frankum, who killed himself as police arrived at the scene. The incident left eight dead and six wounded.

Strathfield Plaza is a shopping centre in Strathfield located in the Inner West of Sydney, Australia and is positioned at the central hub of Strathfield located on Churchill Avenue opposite Strathfield railway station It opened in 1981 The shopping centre has a two-level car park and a nine-storey office tower. On 17 August 1991, the Strathfield Plaza became the site of a tragic mass shooting known as the Strathfield massacre. This incident resulted in the loss of eight lives, including the perpetrator, and left six others wounded.
