St. Andrew's School is a Scottish-heritage independent college preparatory school located on Wilmington Island in Savannah, Georgia, United States. It is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Established in 1978, it is dually accredited by Southern Association of Independent Schools and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school serves students in Pre-K through 12th grade, and has several athletic and fine arts programs.

The Shad River is a 4.7-mile-long (7.6 km) tidal river in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is a tributary of the Bull River and flows through salt marshes connected to Wilmington Island in Chatham County.

Talahi Island is a barrier island, unincorporated community, and census-designated place (CDP) in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,247 at the 2020 census. Located between Savannah and the beach resort town of Tybee Island, Talahi Island is part of the Savannah Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Eureka Club-Farr's Point is a resort cottage on the southern end of Wilmington Island, Georgia. It overlooks the marshes of the Wilmington River on the west and Sheepsheads Creek (maybe a branch of Halfmoon River) on the east. It was built in 1891 for seasonal use as a club and was later used as a private vacation house. The one-story main house is L-shaped and has been expanded over the years. It is raised on cedar posts. The two chimneys have corbel caps.The property includes a small pump house with a cylindrical water tank on a platform.

Islands High School is a public high school located on Whitemarsh Island in unincorporated Chatham County, Georgia, United States, east of Savannah (with a Savannah postal address). The school is part of the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools, and its basic attendance zone covers the urbanized Georgia barrier islands of Whitemarsh, Wilmington, Talahi, and Tybee. The school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the Georgia Accrediting Commission. It is also home to the Savannah-Chatham school district's Scientific Research and Veterinary Science Specialty programs.

The University of Georgia Skidaway Institute of Oceanography (SkIO) is a marine science research and education institute located on Skidaway Island near Savannah, Georgia, USA. UGA Skidaway Institute faculty conduct oceanographic research across all the major marine science disciplines, and from the waters and marshes adjoining the campus to around the world. They teach, advise and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students on the UGA Skidaway Marine Science Campus and on the university’s main campus in Athens. Institute resources include state-of-the-art research laboratories and instrumentation, and the 92-foot research vessel Savannah.

Whitemarsh Island (; WHIT-marsh) is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. The population was 6,983 at the 2020 U.S census. It is part of the Savannah metropolitan statistical area. The communities of Whitemarsh Island are a relatively affluent suburb of Savannah.

The Bull River is an 8.1-mile-long (13.0 km) tidal river in the U.S. state of Georgia, running through Chatham County east of Savannah. At its north end it connects via St. Augustine Creek and the Wilmington River with the Savannah River. Its south end is at Wassaw Sound, leading to the Atlantic Ocean. The Bull River flows between Wilmington Island to the west and McQueens Island and Little Tybee Island to the east. The river is crossed by one bridge, carrying U.S. Route 80 between the communities of Wilmington Island and Tybee Island.

The Halfmoon River is a 4.6-mile-long (7.4 km) tidal river in the U.S. state of Georgia. It flows through saltmarshes connected to Wilmington Island in Chatham County, ending at Wassaw Sound, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean.

Hermitage Plantation was a plantation located around 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Savannah, Georgia. In existence between around 1825 and around 1934, it included Savannah's largest brickworks. The plantation's mansion was built for Scottish architect and builder Henry McAlpin and his wife, Ellen McInnis, of Charleston, South Carolina. McAlpin had purchased the plantation, then around 220 acres (89 ha) in size, from Jean Bérard de Moquet, Marquis de Montalet (who had purchased it from Patrick Mackay). It was run by 65 slaves. During Savannah's colonial period, the land, located between Musgrove Creek and Pipemaker's Creek, was owned by Yamacraw Indians. After the death of Tomochichi in 1741, the Yamacraw Indians left the area. It was claimed by the British Crown in 1750, by which time colonists were already living there. McAlpin expanded the property to cover 600 acres (240 ha) and increased its number of slaves by over one hundred. He also replaced the original plantation home with a mansion designed by William Jay. Other sources claim it was designed by Charles B. Cluskey. The mansion was located at the end of a long driveway lined on either side by oak trees. Rice was grown at the plantation, but the Hermitage was mostly an industrial site, with steam-powered saw and planing mills, a rice barrel factory. It also contained Savannah's largest brickworks, which produced more than 60 million bricks. Many of its "Savannah Grey" bricks were used to build Savannah's early homes. Union Camp Corporation later occupied the plantation site.

The Oatland Island Wildlife Center is a 100-acre wildlife preserve and environmental education complex located on Oatland Island in Chatham County, Georgia, near Savannah. The island itself is one of the Sea Islands, which are barrier islands along the southeastern coast of the United States. Bounded by St. Augustine Creek to the north, the Wilmington River to the west, and Richardson Creek to the south, Oatland lies just north of Whitemarsh Island. It is home to over 150 animals and some 40 species native to the Georgia coast. Originally part of a cotton plantation, the island once held a retirement center for railroad workers and a hospital and laboratory for the U.S. Public Health Service. It was later transferred to the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS) for use as an educational resource and learning facility. The wildlife center remains under the control and management of SCCPSS.
