Towers of Bologna

The Palazzo degli Strazzaroli is a Renaissance-style urban palace located at Piazza di Porta Ravegnana #1 in central Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy.

The Two Towers (Italian: Le due torri), both leaning, are symbols of Bologna, Italy, and the most prominent of the Towers of Bologna. They are located at the intersection of the roads that lead to the five gates of the old ring wall (mura dei torresotti). The taller one is called the Asinelli while the smaller but more leaning tower is called the Garisenda. Their names derive from the families which are traditionally credited with having constructed the towers between 1109 and 1119.Their construction may have been a competition between the two families to show which was the more powerful family. However, the scarcity of documents from this early period makes this uncertain. The name of the Asinelli family, for example, is documented for the first time actually only in 1185, almost 70 years after the presumed construction of the tower which is attributed to them.

Santi Bartolomeo e Gaetano is a Renaissance style, Roman Catholic church in central Bologna; it is located near the Due Torri adjacent to the Strada Maggiore.

The Palazzo Bolognetti is a Renaissance style palace located on Via Castiglione #1, in central Bologna, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. The palace is adjacent to the Palazzo della Mercanzia. The portico in front of the palace dates to the 15th century, while the building was erected in 1551 in a style recalling Pellegrino Tibaldi. The decorations in the atrium and entrance stairwell are attributed to Andrea Marchesi. The palace suffered much damage in the war and was restored. The Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, also known as Palazzo Pepoli Nuovo, is a Baroque style palace on Via Castiglione 7 in central Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. In 2015, it served as a public art gallery for late-Baroque art. Across the Via, rises the medieval Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio, also once pertaining to the same family, which now serves as a museum of the history of Bologna.

The Palazzo Pepoli Vecchio is a Medieval palace located on Via Castiglione number 8, in central Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The merlonated brick Gothic-style building is now the civic Museum of the History of Bologna. It stands across the street from the Baroque-style Palazzo Pepoli Campogrande, now a civic art gallery.

The Sanctuary of Santa Maria della Vita is a late-Baroque-style, Roman Catholic church in central Bologna, near the Piazza Maggiore.

The Palazzo Malvezzi de' Medici is a Renaissance-style palace located on Via Zamboni #13 in central Bologna, Italy. The palace now houses the offices of the Provincial Administration.

The Palazzo Bolognini Amorini Salina is a Renaissance architecture palace located on Piazza Santo Stefano (Via Santo Stefano 9–11) in the center of Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The Palace is notable by its circular niches with busts on the facade. The palace is still owned by descendant of the 16th-century Senatorial family.

The Palazzo Leoni is a Renaissance style palace located on Via Marsala #31, in front of the outlet of Via Mentana, in central Bologna, region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The apse of the church of San Martino, is across the street.

Palazzo Magnani is a Renaissance palace located on Via Zamboni number 20 in central Bologna, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy, built by the Magnani noble family with the same name. Construction on the palace began in 1577 under architect Domenico Tibaldi until his death in 1583. Floriano Ambrosini then took over the architectural duties. In 1797 the palace became a property of the Guidotti family. In the late 19th century they sold it to the Malvezzi Campeggi family whose coat of arms is still visible on the façade. The Palazzo Malvezzi Campeggi rises adjacent to this one, just northeast along Via Zamboni. Subsequently, Palazzo Magnani was inhabited by the Salem family. Currently it is the local office for the Unicredit (was a headquarter of Rolo Banca and Credito Romagnolo ). Among the most important artworks in the interior is the frescoed frieze of Histories of the Foundation of Rome executed in 1590 by the painters Ludovico, Annibale and Agostino Carracci in the salone on the piano nobile. Also notable is the monumental chimney by Ambrosini, decorated by statues of Minerva and Mars by Gabriele Fiorini, and surmounted by the Lupercalia by Annibale Carracci. In the inner courtyard is a statue of "Hercules" whose face is that of Lorenzo Magnani, who had commissioned the Carracci's frieze.
