Stormont County

Stormont—Dundas—Glengarry (formerly Stormont—Dundas, Stormont—Dundas—Charlottenburgh and Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry) is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968.

Stormont—Dundas—South Glengarry is a provincial electoral district in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It was created for the 2007 provincial election. 95.5% came from Stormont—Dundas—Charlottenburgh while 4.5% came from Glengarry—Prescott—Russell. The riding includes all of the united counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry except for the Township of North Glengarry.

Eastern District was one of four districts of the Province of Quebec created in 1788 in the western reaches of the Montreal District and partitioned in 1791 to create the new colony of Upper Canada.

North Stormont is a lower tier township in eastern Ontario, Canada in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

South Stormont is a township in eastern Ontario, Canada, in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. It is located 53 kilometres (33 mi) southeast of Ottawa. South Stormont borders on, but does not include, the city of Cornwall.

Black River is an unincorporated Dispersed Rural Community in the municipality of South Stormont, United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry in eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) north of Ontario Highway 401 and 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) northeast of the community of Long Sault, and is on the Raisin River.

Maxville is an unincorporated community in North Glengarry, Ontario, Canada. It is recognized as a designated place by Statistics Canada.

Ault Park is a park on the St. Lawrence River in the Township of South Stormont, near Long Sault, Ontario, Canada. Originally on Sheek's Island, the park was built on family property donated to the Township of Cornwall by Levi Addison Ault. Sheek's Island was submerged by the St. Lawrence Seaway project in 1958, and Ault Park was rebuilt on the new river shore.

Moulinette is an underwater ghost town in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is one of Ontario's Lost Villages, which were permanently flooded by the creation of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1958. Families and businesses in Moulinette were moved to the new town of Long Sault before the seaway construction commenced. The village was located as a strip community along Highway 2, on the St. Lawrence River. At the time of the flooding, Moulinette had a population of around 311 residents. The community would have been located in what is now South Stormont township. Moulinette was settled in the late 1700s by United Empire Loyalists of the King's Royal Regiment from New York. In the nineteenth century many pioneer industries and businesses were established in the village. The origin of the name Moulinette is disputed; it is thought to have originated either from the French term for "little mill" as a reference to the many mills located in the village or from the French word "moulinet", meaning reel or winch as a reference to French ships who navigated the nearby rapids using winches.

Wales is a ghost town in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is one of Ontario's Lost Villages, which were permanently flooded by the creation of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1958. The town was named for the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) who visited the area during his Canadian tour of 1860. Wales was built on the land grant of Dr. James Stuart, of the King's Royal Regiment of New York. From 1810 to 1957, five generations of the Stuart family lived on this property. Families and businesses in Wales were moved to the new town of Ingleside before the seaway construction commenced. Wales, about two miles away from the old shoreline, was the only inland town affected by the flooding, as the community was located in a creek valley below the new waterline.

Long Sault was a rapid in the St. Lawrence River upstream and west of Cornwall, Ontario. Sault is the archaic spelling of the French word saut, meaning rapids. The Long Sault created a navigation barrier along the river for much of its history, motivating the construction of the Moses-Saunders Power Dam, part of the St. Lawrence Seaway, in the 1950s as the size of ships and the volume of shipping traffic along the river began to exceed the capacity of the area's canal locks. The construction required the flooding of a large swath of land near the rapids to facilitate a hydroelectric dam and to make the rapids area more navigable. The flooded region includes Ontario's Lost Villages. The Long Sault Parkway takes its name from the rapids.

Mille Roches is an underwater ghost town in the Canadian province of Ontario. It is one of Ontario's Lost Villages, which were permanently flooded by the creation of the St. Lawrence Seaway in 1958. Families and businesses in Mille Roches were moved to the new town of Long Sault before the seaway construction commenced. Mille Roches was the birthplace of Levi Addison Ault, born into a well-known and established family in the town, who moved to Cincinnati, Ohio as an adult and became a successful businessman and the city's commissioner of parks in the early 1900s. Ault also donated a large parcel of family-owned land on Sheek's Island, which became Ault Park.
