Longburn

Longburn Adventist College is an integrated co-educational Christian school in New Zealand for years 7 to 13. It is located just west of Palmerston North in the Manawatū District in the small dairy town of Longburn. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.

Longburn railway station was a station in Longburn, on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand. The platform, which is across from the Fonterra Factory, remains but the structure has been demolished. There have been four station sites at Longburn. From 1873 it was on the Foxton-Palmerston North tramway. When the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company (WMR) opened from 1885, a station was built to the south of the Foxton line (see photo to right), in 1905 a new station opened on the Awapuni side of the junction and, after the Milson Deviation opened in 1959, a new station was built to the north in 1962. The station was originally called Long Burn, then Longburn Junction and Longburn. The junction role was diminished once the WMR became part of New Zealand Railways Department (NZR) and, since closure of the Foxton branch, it has only had junctions with sidings. The only clear remnants of the stations are two passing loops.Fonterra transports milk collected from farms by rail from southern Hawke's Bay to Longburn and runs two trains a day to Whareroa.

Awapuni railway station was a station in Kairanga County, on the Foxton Branch and, from 1908, the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand, now in the Palmerston North suburb of Awapuni. It was beside the Mangaone Stream, near its confluence with the Kawau Stream, about 400 m (440 yd) west of Maxwells Line on the north side of Pioneer Highway. Nothing remains of the former station, except a wide verge, partly occupied by a cycleway, built in 2015.

The Makerua Swamp (also known as the Opiki Plains) is an area of the Opiki District of the Manawatū-Whanganui region of New Zealand. In the early 20th century it was the location of flax mills that operated on the banks of the Manawatū River. Flax fibre from New Zealand flax or harekeke, was an important produce of New Zealand. The swamp covered about 5,800 ha (14,000 acres).

Karere Railway Station was a passenger and freight station on the Foxton Branch Line south of Palmerston North in the Manawatū region of New Zealand. It served the branch line from 1873 until the line's closure in 1959. The station was important for the district's growing industries, especially those of forestry and flax. Local goods were transported from the station to Foxton's port where they were shipped to a larger centre. The station's freight facilities were expanded in 1930 to meet the area's growing demand for transport. These improvements included accommodations for livestock transportation. In 1936 the station's passenger shelter was destroyed by a cyclone and not rebuilt. The cyclone also damaged the Terrace End Railway Station in Palmerston North. The Foxton branchline was closed and ripped up in 1959. The concrete station platform is one of the few remains of the line, and can be found along State Highway 58. The station's original sign is mounted to the station facing the road.

Westbrook is a suburb in the city of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The semi-rural suburb includes the Olive Tree Village, the Manawatu Trotting Club, and several parks and reserves: Bill Brown Park, David Spring Park, Kimberley Park, Ashton Reserve, Amberley Reserve, Chippendale Reserve, Chelmarsh Reserve, Marybank Reserve, Dalfield Reserve, and part of the Kawau Stream Reserve.

Awapuni is a suburb of Palmerston North, Manawatū-Whanganui, New Zealand. It is located south west of Palmerston North Central. The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage gives a translation of "blocked-up river" for Awapuni.Te Hotu Manawa Marae and its Tūturu Pumau meeting house are located in Awapuni. It is a tribal meeting ground for the Rangitāne hapū of Ngāti Kapuārangi, Ngāti Rangiaranaki, Ngāti Rangitepaia, Ngāti Hineaute and Ngāti Tauira.

Highbury is a suburb of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The suburb is located northwest of Palmerston North Central (CBD). The area has the characteristics of a suburban area and had a resident population of 4,886 (2018).Highbury's street name themes range from British place-names (Brighton, Somerset, Lancaster, Coventry, Brentwood) to those of settlers of Palmerston North (Monrad). There are many parks and reserves.Three schools service the area: Somerset Crescent, Takaro, and Monrad Intermediate Schools. The main campus in Palmerston North of Te Wananga o Aotearoa.The Cloverlea Tavern on the corner of Gillespies Line and Tremaine Avenue is the local pub. The convenience store 'Highbury Shops' is located on the corner of Highbury Avenue and Pembroke Street.The Monrad Rest Home is located in Highbury.Westbrook is a nearby suburb.

Linton railway station was a flag station at Linton in Palmerston North on the North Island Main Trunk in New Zealand.It was opened by the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company on 7 July 1885; closed to passengers on 21 January 1971 and closed to goods traffic on 19 November 1972. Only a passing loop remains.

The Engineer Corps Memorial Centre (ECMC) is a museum, library and chapel complex located at Linton Military Camp, south of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The centre focuses on the preservation of history and heritage of the Corps of Royal New Zealand Engineers (RNZE).

Linton Military Camp is the largest New Zealand Army base and is home to the Headquarters 1(NZ) Brigade. It is located just south of Palmerston North. Manawatu Prison is located north of the camp.

Cloverlea is a suburb of Palmerston North, New Zealand. The suburb is located in the north-western part of town. Its boundaries are currently between Rangitikei Line and Gillespies Line. The suburb takes its name from the Cloverlea homestead and property built and developed by David Buick MP between 1881 and his death during the influenza pandemic of 1918. Mr Buick ran a successful horse stud in addition to farming sheep and cattle at Cloverlea. He was the Member of Parliament for Palmerston North from 1908 until his death in 1918. Cloverlea is located at 102 No 1 Line, Palmerston North 4475.Under the Discharged Soldiers' Settlement Act 1915 the government purchased 273 acres (110.5 ha) from the Buick estate and allocated 15 sections by ballot held 5 November 1919 to servicemen and nurses returning from the First World War. The area was known as Cloverlea Soldier Settlement which over time contracted to Cloverlea. However, the area to which this Cloverlea refers is not the more recent suburban development located north east of Highbury, north west of Palmerston North Hospital Area and north of Takaro, but an area about Cloverlea Road which serviced the settlement.The Mangaone Stream walkway runs along the edge of Cloverlea, it starts all the way in Milson and ends by the Manawatu River. In 2018, the suburb had a resident population of 1,893.Cloverlea is a part of the Palmerston North electorate.
