The Jamul Casino is a Native American gambling enterprise run by the Jamul Indian Village on their 6-acre reservation in Jamul, California. It was formerly the Hollywood Casino Jamul-San Diego. The president and general manager is Mary Cheeks.The casino has 1,700 slot machines and 40 table games. It is located 20 miles east of downtown San Diego.

Steele Canyon Charter High School is a public charter high school located in the San Diego East County community of Spring Valley, California, United States. Opened in 2000, the school serves students in grades nine through grade twelve. It has operated as a California charter school since July 1, 2007. Steele Canyon's main rival is Valhalla High School. Steele Canyon has also served as an evacuation center for San Diego residents threatened by the Harris fire, one of the larger October 2007 California wildfires.

McGinty Mountain is a gabbroic mountain located in San Diego County, California near Jamul. Because of the gabbroic soil, the mountain supports numerous rare and endemic plant species, including half of California's population of the Dehesa nolina (Nolina interrata). The mountain belongs to an ecological preserve collectively managed by The Nature Conservancy, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge. The mountain is accessible through a 4.7 mi (7.6 km) long out-and-back hiking trail.

Located in Rancho San Diego, Valhalla High School is a public high school operated by the Grossmont Union High School District with an enrollment of 2,112 students. The school is characterized by its school colors, orange and white, going by the nickname Orange Nation. During its existence, the school has won the California Distinguished School Award in both 2001 and 2003, and is also accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Cuyamaca College is a public community college in Rancho San Diego, California. It is part of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District and the California Community Colleges System. Along with Grossmont College, it serves the eastern suburbs in the San Diego area. Cuyamaca College opened in 1978 and now offers 81 associate's degree programs and 66 training certification programs to approximately 8,500 students. Many of the college's students transfer to the University of California, San Diego or San Diego State University to complete their bachelor's degrees. Cuyamaca's mascot is the coyote.
