Chino, California

The Chino Valley Unified School District is a school district in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It serves the cities of Chino, Chino Hills, and the southwestern portion of Ontario, though originally it served only Chino when it was founded in 1860. It now encompasses 88 square miles (230 km2) and serves about 32,000 students from grades kindergarten up to 12th grade. CVUSD serves four high schools, five junior high schools, twenty-one elementary schools, one continuation school, an adult school, & one Charter school.

The Moyse Building, also known as the Gray Building, is a historic building located at 13150 7th Street in Chino, California. Built in 1887, it is the oldest surviving building in the city. The building has served in several capacities for the city and has played a part in several civic firsts. After W. R. Dawson completed the building, he ran Chino's first post office from it. The second floor housed the city's first school, which had five students its first year. When Chino was first connected to telephone service, the Moyse Building was one of the first buildings with a connection. The building also hosted the city's first communal Thanksgiving celebration, which was led by the Rev. A. B. Orgen. In recent years, the building has housed the Chino Chamber of Commerce.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 28, 1979.

Chino High School (CHS), located in Chino, California is one of the four regular high schools in the Chino Valley Unified School District. The school was established in 1897, making it one of the oldest schools in Southern California. Chino High moved from its original location in 1951 to its present location on Park Place and Benson Ave.

Chino Valley Medical Center (CVMC) is a 126-bed acute care facility in Chino, California. CVMC is owned and operated by Prime Healthcare Services, Inc. (PHS), a hospital management company in Ontario, California. PHS was founded in 2001 by Prem Reddy, who acts as its present chairman of the board. The emergency department at Chino Valley receives about 37,000 visits each year. The hospital is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP). In 2004, US Bankruptcy Courts, Riverside, awarded PHS management of CVMC pursuant to Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings.

The Baitul Hameed Mosque (English: House of the Praiseworthy) is the largest Ahmadiyya Muslim mosque in the Western United States with an area of 19,000 square feet (1,800 m2) sitting on nearly 5 acres (20,000 m2). Initially built in 1989 at a cost of $2.5 million, entirely from donations of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, it is located east of Los Angeles in Chino, California, just inside San Bernardino County. The San Gabriel Mountains provide a beautiful backdrop to this Spanish-inspired mosque with modern amenities. In 2003, an electrical fire caused heavy damage to the front building which was used for library and office space, as well as a kitchen. The affected areas were demolished, and rebuilt with a second story. In addition, a separate auxiliary hall was built adjacent to the existing Tahir Hall, for the exclusive use of Lajna Imaillah. The reconstructed mosque opened again for full use in August, 2009. A separate commercial kitchen and missionary residence/guest house are also on site. Plans are now underway for the construction of an NCAA sized basketball court with space allocated in the back lot.

Don Antonio Lugo High School is one of the four high schools of the Chino Valley Unified School District located in Chino, California, United States. The mascot is the Conquistador. Don Lugo High School was founded in 1972, and during that year the school only accepted freshmen. Each following year another freshman class was added until the school had all four classes for the first time in 1980.

Ontario High School is a high school in Ontario, California. It is one of the twelve schools in the Chaffey Joint Union High School District.

California Institution for Men (CIM) is a male-only state prison located in the city of Chino, San Bernardino County, California. It is often colloquially referenced as "Chino". In turn, locals call the prison "Chino Men's" or just "Men's" to avoid confusion with the city itself.

KALI (900 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to West Covina, California, and serving the eastern suburbs of Los Angeles. The station is owned by Multicultural Broadcasting and broadcasts Mandarin Chinese and other ethnic programming. By day, KALI broadcasts at 5,000 watts. As 900 AM is a Mexican clear channel frequency reserved for XEW Mexico City, KALI greatly reduces power to 150 watts at sunset. It uses a directional antenna with a three-tower array. The transmitter is on East Olive Avenue in Chino.

KAHZ (1600 AM) is a broadcast radio station in the United States. Licensed to Pomona, California, the station is owned by Multicultural Broadcasting and is a full-time simulcast of KAZN, a Chinese language station licensed in Pasadena. The station first signed on in 1947 as KPMO. For nearly four decades, the station was owned by Dean H. Wickstrom and his family. KPMO began as a community radio station serving Pomona. In 1955, KPMO became KWOW. Throughout the 1960s, KWOW had a country music format. Then for much of the 1970s and 1980s, KWOW had an oldies format. In 1986, the Wickstrom family sold KWOW to local investment advisor Edward "Buz" Schwartz. The station changed its call sign to KMNY in 1987 and was branded "Money Radio" after Schwartz's investment company. KMNY was reportedly the first 24-hour business news and talk station in the U.S. However, the station was controversial from the start, as Schwartz was under investigation by the state of California for securities fraud; the Federal Communications Commission fined KMNY in 1990 for multiple violations, including failures to disclose that guests purchased time on the station. Multicultural Broadcasting purchased the station in 1998. Early in its ownership of KMNY, the station had a variety of its previous financial programming, music, and programming in Vietnamese and Cantonese. This time programming completely in Chinese, KMNY returned to business news full time in 2000. In 2005, KMNY became KAHZ and dropped its original programming to simulcast KAZN full time.

Pasinogna (also, Pasinog-na and Passinogna) is a former Tongva-Gabrieleño Native American settlement in San Bernardino County, California.This Indian village, identified by name by Hugo Reid in his seminal work on local tribes in 1852, was not, however, specified by location. It is known that it was located on the Rancho Santa Ana del Chino, in the Chino Hills, near present-day Chino. Probably, like many other villages, where ranchos were later located, it was in the vicinity of the adobe of the Rancho Santa Ana del Chino, near Chino Creek or its tributary Little Chino Creek. That later creek, with Carbon Canyon to its west, would provide an easy route through the Chino Hills that would connect it to the villages of the coastal plain of what is now Orange County.

Rancho Santa Ana del Chino was a 22,193-acre (89.81 km2) Mexican land grant in the Chino Hills and southwestern Pomona Valley, in present-day San Bernardino County, California. It was granted to Antonio Maria Lugo in 1841 by Mexican Alta California Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado. The name literally means "Santa Ana of the Fair Hair," though there have been statements that the ranch was named for a mission mayordomo, or foreman, who had curly hair, "chino" being also a Spanish word for "curly". The rancho site included the present day cities of Chino and Chino Hills.
