South El Monte, California

South El Monte High School is a high school in South El Monte, California in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. It is a part of the El Monte Union High School District. Asahi Gakuen, a part-time Japanese school, operates its San Gabriel campus (サンゲーブル校 Sangēburu-kō) at South El Monte High School.In 2018, a 17-year-old boy who attended the high school was killed by his 16-year-old boyfriend and football teammate.

The American Military Museum (also known as Tankland) is a privately owned museum in South El Monte, California, USA. It is dedicated to tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery from the Second World War and post war periods and contains over 180 vehicles.

Founded in 1901, it began operation in a single, upstairs classroom in the old Lexington Avenue Grammar School, with an enrollment of 12-15 students. Over 80% of students are of Hispanic origin and over 17% are characterized as Asian/Pacific Islander.

The Old Spanish Trail was an extension of the trail from Missouri to Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Gila River trail also ended in El Monte. By the 1850s, those in El Monte started to call the town the `End of the Santa Fe Trail." This claim is disputed by some, such as the Santa Fe in New Mexico. In the 1800s permanent settlements were established by immigrants from Texas and Arkansas, the first settlement in Southern California founded by citizens of the United States. The state marker for the Santa Fe Trail Historical Park is located at 3564 Santa Anita Ave, El Monte, CA 91731. The City of El Monte held a ceremony to dedicate the Santa Fe Trail Historical Park on June 2, 1989.El Monte built the (now closed) Santa Fe Trail Historical Park in 1989, near Valley Blvd and Santa Anita Ave. The one-acre park has two historic structures and a covered wagon. The park is on the west side of Santa Anita Avenue, just a few blocks north of the Interstate 10 in California freeway and south of the El Monte City Hall. Soon after it opened, the park closed, and the city has no plans to reopen it. The El Monte Historical Museum at 3150 Tyler Avenue show cases the Santa Fe Trail and El Monte's Historical importance to Southern California.

Bartolo is a former settlement in Los Angeles County, California. It lay at an elevation of 223 feet (68 m). Bartolo still appeared on maps as of 1926. Its original name came from Rancho Paso de Bartolo, the lands of the Mexican governor of California, Pio Pico, which in turn was named for the San Gabriel River ford called Paso de Bartolo Viejo (Old Bartolo's Crossing), near Beverly Road and the San Gabriel River. It was a station on the Union Pacific Railroad at the junction of its branch line to Whittier and its main line. Today, the area is part of the cities of Whittier and Pico Rivera, which is named for Pio Pico. Bartolo was the site of an engagement in the Mexican–American War. With 565 men, Commodore Robert F. Stockton and General Stephen Watts Kearny engaged Gen. José María Flores on January 8, 1847, at Bartolo Ford. Advancing across the knee-deep water in a hollow square formation, Kearny's men defeated General Florés and his Californios that had so plagued Lieutenant Gillespie at the siege of Los Angeles.

Rancho Potrero de Felipe Lugo was a 2,043-acre (8.27 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Los Angeles County, California given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to Teodoro Romero and Jorge Morillo. The name means pasture of Felipe Lugo. Felipe Lugo was the son of Antonio Maria Lugo of Rancho San Antonio. The grant along the San Gabriel River encompassed present day South El Monte.

The station is owned by the City of El Monte.El Monte station is served by 34 Metrolink San Bernardino Line trains (17 in each direction) each weekday running primarily at peak hours in the peak direction of travel. Weekend service consists of 16 trains (8 in each direction) on both Saturday and Sunday evenly spaced throughout the day.
