Coppin State University

Coppin Academy High School is a public charter high school located in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Opened in July 2005, it is located directly on the campus of Coppin State University and is operated by Coppin State.The student body is composed of approximately 350 students, all chosen by lottery. Once there, the students are afforded the opportunity to interact with and learn from college students and professors from Coppin State.

Coppin Center was a 2,000-seat multi-purpose arena in Baltimore, Maryland. It was the home of the Coppin State University Eagles basketball team and the Baltimore Pearls of the American Basketball Association. The venue was demolished in 2011. It was replaced at Coppin State by the Physical Education Complex.

Coppin Heights is a neighborhood in the western part of Baltimore, Maryland. Located above North Avenue, it is a working-class neighborhood home to Coppin State University.

Physical Education Complex is a 4,100-seat multi-purpose arena in Baltimore, Maryland. It was built in 2009 and became home to the Coppin State University men's basketball team in the 2009–2010 season. The women's basketball team and women's volleyball team also play at the facility. The arena replaced the Coppin Center.

Walbrook is a neighborhood in West Baltimore, located along West North Avenue. Coppin State University is located in Walbrook, and the neighborhood was also the namesake of the former Walbrook High School. Several major streets, North Avenue, Windsor Mill Road, Bloomingdale Road, and Hilton Street, meet in the Walbrook area in a location known as Walbrook Junction. This area serves as a transportation hub for the Maryland Transit Administration. It is the western terminus for Bus Route 13, and is also served by Bus Routes 15, 16, 91, and 97.

Frederick Douglass High School, established in 1883, is an American public high school in the Baltimore City Public Schools district. Originally named the Colored High and Training School, Douglass is the second-oldest U.S. high school created specifically for African American students. Prior to desegregation, Douglass and Paul Laurence Dunbar High School were the only two high schools in Baltimore that admitted African-American students, with Douglass serving students from West Baltimore and Dunbar serving students from East Baltimore. Former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (1908–1993) is one of Douglass's most notable alumni. After graduating from Douglass in 1926, Marshall went on to college and law school, passing the bar and becoming a lawyer. Representing the NAACP, he successfully challenged school segregation in the landmark Supreme Court case, Brown v. Board of Education (1954). The Supreme Court ruled that segregated, separate but equal, in public education was unconstitutional because it could never truly be equal. Due to residential segregation and changes in the demographics of Baltimore, as of 2008 the overwhelming majority of students at Douglass were African American and many were poor. It was one of the eleven lowest performing schools in the state of Maryland.

Mondawmin is a neighborhood located in the city of Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The neighborhood is surrounded by Druid Hill Park, the Whitelock Community, and Lower Park Heights. Included within its boundaries are Frederick Douglass High School, and Mondawmin Mall. The Baltimore Metro Subway serves the neighborhood, with a station at Mondawmin Mall that is also a hub for many bus routes.

Jonah House is a faith-based community centered on the concept of "Nonviolence, resistance and community". Founded in 1973 by a group that included Philip Berrigan, then a Catholic priest, and Elizabeth McAlister, formerly a Catholic nun, Jonah House has grown to be situated on a 22-acre (89,000 m2) area of land in Baltimore, Maryland encompassing St. Peter's Cemetery, caring for the grounds. Jonah House has been specifically regarded as a prime example of a Catholic Worker House of Resistance.

Mondawmin Mall is a three-level shopping mall in West Baltimore, Maryland, United States. The mall was a development of the Mondawmin Corporation, a firm set up in 1952 by James Rouse and Hunter Moss under the Moss-Rouse Company. When it first opened in October 1956, it had an open-air plan and was called the Mondawmin Center. It was later enclosed and renamed the Mondawmin Mall.

Carver Vocational-Technical High School – fully George Washington Carver Vocational-Technical High School – also known as Carver Vo-Tech, is a public vocational-technical high school located in the western part of Baltimore, Maryland, United States and part of the Baltimore City Public Schools system. Founded in 1925, it was the first African-American (then labeled the "Colored" or "Negro") vocational-technical public high school) then established in the State of Maryland. Carver Vo-Tech serves grades 9-12. It was named for the famous African-American scientist / botanist and inventor George Washington Carver (1860s-1943).

Mondawmin station is a Metro SubwayLink station in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located under the intersection of Reisterstown Road and Liberty Heights Avenue in the Mondawmin neighborhood, adjacent to the Mondawmin Mall. It is the northernmost underground station on the line, and a major transfer point to many bus routes. Mondawmin station serves Mondawmin Mall, Coppin State University, Druid Hill Park, The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, and the Lower Park Heights neighborhood. The station's location next to Mondawmin Mall, Baltimore's oldest mall, has led its owners to plan an expansion.On the surface, a bus loop connects to Reisterstown Road and Liberty Heights Avenue. This loop and the adjacent streets are used by a number of bus routes, many of which terminate in it. Several routes were cut back to Mondawmin on June 18, 1984, about seven months after the station opened, and Routes M-1, M-2, and M-3 were formed at that time to replace the portions of those routes beyond Mondawmin. Specifically, Route M-1 was split from Route 28 (now Route 5 near Mondawmin), Route M-2 was split from Route 7, and Route M-3 was split from Route 5.

Bridgeview/Greenlawn is a neighborhood in the western part of Baltimore, Maryland. Its boundaries are the north side of West Lafayette Street, the east side of Braddish Avenue, the west side of North Monroe Street, and the south side of Presstman Street. The neighborhood lies in the vicinity of Walbrook Junction, Coppin State University, Sandtown-Winchester, and Edmondson Village. Though the area was once considered middle-class, it has in the 20th century experienced economic depression, housing abandonment, crime and gang problems. It is populated largely by lower income African American residents and is a neighborhood where Bloods gang members are concentrated.
