Government Hill, Anchorage

The Wireless Station is a historic US government telecommunications facility at East Manor and Boyd Streets in Anchorage, Alaska. The property includes three buildings (built in 1917, 1934, and 1949) that were used to maintain radio communications in the Anchorage area, with ships at sea, and as a communications link to Seattle, Washington as part of military WAMCATS telecommunications system. In addition, the station was used for communications during the construction of the Alaska Railroad, and, during the 1925 serum run to Nome, it was used to inform the residents of Nome that the diphtheria antitoxin was on its way.

The Archdiocese of Anchorage–Juneau (Latin: Archidiœcesis Ancoragiensis–Junellensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory, or archdiocese, in southern Alaska in the United States. The archdiocese has a single suffragan diocese, the Diocese of Fairbanks. The mother church cathedral of the archdiocese is Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral in Anchorage. The co-cathedral is the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Juneau. As of 2023, the archbishop is Andrew E. Bellisario. The Archdiocese of Anchorage-Juneau was erected in 2020 when Pope Francis merged the Archdiocese of Anchorage with the Diocese of Juneau.

The McKinley Tower Apartments, previously known as the East 4th & Denali Apartments, the Mt. McKinley Building, the McKay (or MacKay) Building and the McKinley Building, is a historic apartment building at 337 East Fourth Avenue in the eastern downtown of Anchorage, Alaska. Originally constructed by Swalling Construction owners, John H. Clawson and Albert Swalling, as a 14-story HUD 604 apartment building named the Mt. McKinley Bldg, it is the first, and oldest high-rise in Anchorage. McKinley Tower was designed in 1950 by Earl W. Morrison for MacDonald Architects of Seattle who also designed the nearly identical Inlet Towers at 1020 W. 12th Avenue. The building shares key design characteristics with several other buildings designed by Morrison including: Skye at Belltown in Seattle, WA. The Mendenhall Tower in Juneau, Mary Frances Towers in Ketchikan, and the Cathedral Arms building in Sitka.

The Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the city of Anchorage, Alaska. Areas that are served by department include the incorporated areas of downtown Anchorage, Bird, Bootleggers Cove, Eagle River, Fairview, Indian, Mountain View, Muldoon, and Spenard, among others. AFD is assisted by two volunteer fire departments operating in the outlying areas of the Anchorage Municipality.

The Civil Works Residential Dwellings, also known as the Brown's Point Cottages and Corps of Engineers Houses, are a pair of historic houses at 786 and 800 Delaney Street in Anchorage, Alaska. The two houses, mirror images of one another, are single-story wood-frame structures with wide clapboard siding, a metal gable roof, and an attached single-car garage. Built in 1941 to house officers of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, they are among the least-altered of Anchorage's World War II-era military facilities.The houses were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Port of Alaska (POA) is a deep-water port in Anchorage, Alaska, with three bulk carrier berths, two petroleum berths, and one barge berth. The name was changed from "Port of Anchorage" to the "Port of Alaska" in 2017. It is an enterprise department of the Municipality of Anchorage. It is distinguished from other types of municipal departments largely because it generates enough revenue to support its operations without being a burden to Anchorage property tax payers, and it also pays a fee-in-lieu of taxes to help run city government. The POA provides critical transportation infrastructure to the citizens of Anchorage and to a majority of the citizens of the State of Alaska both within and beyond the Railbelt. Seventy-four percent of all the waterborne freight and ninety-five percent of the refined petroleum products entering the state through Southcentral Alaska ports is shipped through the Port of Alaska. This includes 100 percent of the jet fuel supplied to Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and approximately 66 percent of the jet fuel for Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The Port Director is appointed by the Mayor and reports to the Municipal Manager. There is a nine-person Commission, also appointed by the Mayor, responsible for promulgating the Port's terminal tariff. Despite its enterprise distinction, the Port acts as a standard municipal department with the Anchorage Assembly approving its annual budget, contracts, tariffs, and leases. Additionally, needed legal, financial and other day-to-day support are provided, for a fee, by the appropriate general government departments acting as an extension of the Port's staff. All Port operating activities are subject to municipal code.

The Anchorage Memorial Park, also known as Anchorage Cemetery, is a 22-acre (89,000 m2) cemetery located in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. Covering nine city blocks, the cemetery separates the city's downtown and Fairview neighborhoods. The cemetery was established by President Woodrow Wilson in 1915 as part of the Anchorage townsite, one of a number of land reserves set aside for public facilities for the new town. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, recognizing its status as Anchorage's oldest cemetery.From approximately 1954 to 1986, a public housing complex called Willow Park occupied the half-blocks of the cemetery site adjacent to Ninth Avenue and Fairbanks Street. The buildings were razed to allow for expansion of the cemetery. All that remains is the complex's maintenance building, taken over for the same purpose by the cemetery.

The Anchorage Museum is a large art, history, ethnography, ecology and science museum located in a modern building in the heart of Anchorage, Alaska. It is dedicated to studying and exploring the land, peoples, art and history of Alaska. The museum displays material from its permanent collection, along with regular visiting exhibitions.

Anchorage Depot, also known as Alaska Railroad Depot, is the railroad station at the center of the Alaska Railroad system at the junction of the two main lines their trains run on. It serves as the starting point for many tourists traveling on the luxury trains such as the Denali Star. The station is a Moderne-style three story concrete building, built in 1942 and enlarged in 1948.It is located at the base of a hill, below downtown Anchorage. It measures 338 feet (103 m) by 45 feet (14 m). In 1999, it was deemed significant in the history of transportation in Alaska and nominated for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The depot, built of concrete and steel and well-equipped, was held to represent the railroad's transition from wooden structures and equipment inadequate for challenges of the World War II era and since.It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 27, 1999.It appears that sometime before October 2020, a high platform was built on the third track over from the main depot, thus making this the first train station in Alaska to have a high platform.

The Loussac–Sogn Building is a historic commercial building at 429 D Street in downtown Anchorage, Alaska. It is a three-story Moderne-style building, with storefronts on the ground floor and offices above, with its long side extending along 5th Avenue, and its main entrance, on D Street. The based on the building up to the storefront windows is finished in green tile, while most of the building is finished in concrete. The main entrance has a polished stone surround. Built in 1947, it is one of the oldest surviving Moderne structures in the city, and was the largest office building in the city at its completion. It was planned by Zachariah J. Loussac and Dr. Harold Sogn as a small building to house Dr. Sogn's medical practice, but grew in the design to its more substantial form.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
