It was built about 1750, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, five-bay-by-two-bay, random fieldstone dwelling. It has a gable roof with gable end chimneys. A 2+1⁄2-story kitchen wing was added before 1825.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

William Branson and his Reading property are also associated with the Franklin Stove. William Branson's grandson Samuel Van Leer would play an important role in the American Revolutionary War and would take over the family business.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 11, 1975.

Two additions were made on the east end; the first about 1798 and the second in 1803.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
