Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy is an Islamic private day and weekend school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, established in 1996. It has a coeducational kindergarten through 12th grade. It is affiliated with the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society and is located in a common building, 1501 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19122. Coursework includes Islamic studies, the Arabic language, and Quran classes. In 2004, the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society building received murals and decorative tiling. In 2006, volunteers added more decorative work to the building.There was a December 2015 vandalism incident involving someone placing a pig's head on the property. Pig heads are especially offensive to Muslims. The school has also been a part of interfaith efforts in Philadelphia, including a Muslim/Jewish interfaith basketball game — played on the Philadelphia 76ers home court at Wells Fargo Center— organized by an area teen as part of his Bar Mitzvah project.

The Philadelphia nativist riots (also known as the Philadelphia Prayer Riots, the Bible Riots and the Native American Riots) were a series of riots that took place on May 6—8 and July 6—7, 1844, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States and the adjacent districts of Kensington and Southwark. The riots were a result of rising anti-Catholic sentiment at the growing population of Irish Catholic immigrants. The government brought in over a thousand militia—they confronted the nativist mobs and killed and wounded hundreds. In the five months leading to the riots, nativist groups had been spreading a false rumor that Catholics were trying to remove the Bible from public schools. A nativist rally in Kensington erupted in violence on May 6 and started a deadly riot that would result in the destruction of two Catholic churches and numerous other buildings. Riots erupted again in July after it was discovered that St. Philip Neri's Catholic Church in Southwark had armed itself for protection. Fierce fighting broke out between the nativists and the soldiers sent to protect the church, resulting in numerous deaths and injuries. Two of the 13 Catholic churches were burned. The Catholic Church sued the city and won some money for repairs. Civic leaders deplored the nativist attacks. Nationally, the riots helped fuel criticism of the nativist movement, despite denials of responsibility from nativist groups. The riots exposed deficiencies in law enforcement in Philadelphia and the surrounding districts, influencing various reforms in local police departments and the eventual consolidation of the city in 1854.

St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church is an active parish of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia located at Second and Jefferson Streets in Philadelphia, in the West Kensington section of the city (sometimes referred to as "Old Kensington").

Joseph C. Ferguson School is a historic school building located in the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was designed by Irwin T. Catharine and built in 1921–1922. It is a three-story, nine bay, U-shaped brick building on a raised basement, in the Colonial Revival-style. It features large stone arches, a double stone cornice, and brick parapet. The school is named after Joseph C. Ferguson a judge that was a part of Philadelphia orphan court. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.The building is currently the home The U School, an innovative high school in the School District of Philadelphia. The U School and Building 21, two schools with a non-selective lottery-based admissions process, opened at the Ferguson building during the 2014–2015 school year. Building 21 relocated after three academic years, and The U School remains.

James R. Ludlow School is a historic K-8 elementary school within the School District of Philadelphia, located in the Yorktown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school building is a Gothic Revival structure designed by architect Irwin T. Catharine (1883–1944) and built in 1926–1927. It is a heavily constructed three-story brick building, nine bays wide with projecting end bays in the Late Gothic Revival-style. Like many similarly-designed Gothic Revival schools in Philadelphia, it features rib vault, heavily tiled corridors, and a stone entrance pavilion with a Tudor-arched opening. The school was named for the Hon. James Reilly Ludlow, or “Judge Ludlow” (1825-1886), President Judge of Court of Common Pleas, No. 3, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a distinguished graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.Ludlow School is located near the National Shrine of St. John Neumann, and near Philadelphia’s up-and-coming Fishtown neighborhood. St. John Neumann was a Bishop of Philadelphia who largely organized and expanded Philadelphia's diocesan school system.

Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) is the United States' largest municipally owned natural gas utility. Construction was completed by engineer Samuel V. Merrick on January 22, 1838, and operations continued from the 1800s to the present day.

Kensington Hospital, formerly known as Kensington Hospital for Women, is the 2nd oldest, and last remaining independent hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The hospital was established in 1887 by Howard A. Kelly, MD, who later became one of the founding professors at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and the chair of gynecological surgery of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. The hospital was added to the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places in 2019.

Berks station is an elevated rapid transit station on the SEPTA Market–Frankford Line, located at the corner of Front and Berks streets in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The station is also served by SEPTA bus route 3.

West Kensington is a neighborhood in the North Philadelphia section of Philadelphia. It is north of Olde Kensington. The Market Frankford El above Front Street forms the line between West Kensington and Kensington. Its bordering neighborhoods are Kensington to the east, Harrowgate to the northeast, and Fairhill to the west. It is bounded by Kensington Avenue to the east, American Street to the west, York Street to the South and Allegheny Avenue to the north.

Temple University station is an above-ground SEPTA Regional Rail station located at the eastern edge of the Temple University campus at 915 West Berks Street between 9th and 10th Streets, in the Cecil B. Moore section of Lower North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The station is in the Center City fare zone, although the station itself is located in North Philadelphia. There is a small ticket kiosk located at the base of the stairs on the street level. Temple University maintains a security kiosk at street level. Stairways and two elevators lead up to the high-level platforms at track level. There are two island platforms serving four tracks. Each platform is 380 feet (120 meters) long, long enough to platform four cars with only the end doors being used. The platforms have a canopy overhead and some wind-breaking walls, but are otherwise exposed to the weather. This station is located approximately 2.6 track miles from Suburban Station. In FY 2005, Temple University station was the fourth busiest station in SEPTA's Regional Rail system, with 2,448 average total weekday boardings and 2,593 average weekday alightings. The station also has two large bicycle racks that both have roofs above them to protect bikes against the weather. The station can easily accommodate 30+ bicycles. The racks are also in full view of the 24-hour security guard.

The Class and Nachod Brewery, is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The house was built in 1911 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 31, 2003.

Kalaya (also known as Kalaya Thai Kitchen) is a Southern Thai restaurant in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania owned by Chutatip "Nok" Suntaranon. Established in November 2022, the business was included in The New York Times's 2023 list of the 50 best restaurants in the United States, and won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic.
