St. Margaret's School (Virginia)

The two-story house was built in 1763 over the cellar of the previous house that was built in 1682 by Edward Hill Sr. Archibald McCall hired William Buckland, an architect and master builder, to construct the Georgian style house. It figured in history as the place where McCall was tar and feathered for his stance on the Stamp Act of 1765. It was shot at during the War of 1812. George Washington stayed at the house numerous times, and was the leader of Dr. Archibald Brockenbrough during the French and Indian War. Benjamin Blake Brockenbrough owned the house during the middle and late 1800s, during which time his cousin Judith Brockenbrough operated a school for girls after the American Civil War until 1875. In 1927, the house was purchased for the St. Margaret's School campus. It is one of the pre-Revolutionary buildings of the Tappahannock Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Tappahannock Historic District is a national historic district located at Tappahannock, Essex County, Virginia. It encompasses 14 contributing buildings dating from the 18th through late-19th centuries. They are the Customs House (c. 1750), Scot's Arms Tavern, Five Cents and Dollar Store, Ritchie House, Beale Memorial Baptist Church (Early Essex County Court House; 1728, 1814), Old Clerk's Office (c. 1808), Essex County Court House (1848, 1926), Debtor's Prison (c. 1769), Henley House (c. 1757), Anderton House (c. 1750), Brockenbrough House, St. Margaret's Hall, Roane-Wright House (c. 1850), and St. John's Episcopal Church (1837-1849).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

The Debtors' Prison in Tappahannock, Virginia, is a historic debtors' prison dating back to the 18th century. Constructed sometime before 1769, it is one of three such structures remaining in Virginia, along with those in Accomac and Worsham. In the early 19th century, the practice of imprisoning debtors was abolished, marking a significant shift in societal attitudes towards debt and punishment. By 1820, the former prison had undergone a transformation, being repurposed into a residential space. The prison building is a contributing structure to the Tappahannock Historic District, and as such was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Tappahannock is the oldest town in Essex County, Virginia, United States. The population was 2,375 at the 2010 census, up from 2,068 at the 2000 census. Located on the Rappahannock River, Tappahannock is the county seat of Essex County. Its name comes from an Algonquian language word lappihanne (also noted as toppehannock), meaning "Town on the rise and fall of water" or "where the tide ebbs and flows." The Rappahannock is a tidal estuary from above this point and downriver to its mouth on Chesapeake Bay. In 1608 English explorer John Smith landed in Tappahannock and fought with the local Rappahannock tribe. After defeating them, he later made peace.

Piscataway Creek is a tributary of the Rappahannock River in eastern Virginia, in the United States, approximately 17 miles (27 km) in length. It is fed by the Sturgeon Swamp and Mussel Swamp, lowlands near US Route 360 on the Middle Peninsula, and empties into the Rappahannock River three miles (5 km) downstream from the town of Tappahannock. It is tidal for much of its course. The creek drains an area of 57.4 square miles (149 km2). Its watershed is 63% forested. Agriculture encompasses 26.5 percent of the watershed, with 16.1 percent cropland and 10.4 pasture/hayland. The remainder consists of swampland and residential area.

Sabine Hall is a historic house located near Warsaw in Richmond County, Virginia. Built about 1730 by noted planter, burgess and patriot Landon Carter (1710–1778), it is one of Virginia's finest Georgian brick manor houses. Numerous descendants served in the Virginia General Assembly. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1970. At the time of its National Register listing, it was still owned by Carter / Wellford descendants.

Northern Neck Regional Jail is a jail in Warsaw, Virginia, which is located in Virginia's Northern Neck. The jail was completed in 1995. It employs 100 people and has a capacity of 460 inmates with its most recent addition completed in 2000.Notable inmates of the jail have included Chris Brown in 2014, Paul Manafort in 2018, Daniel Hale in 2021, and Michael Vick.

Dunnsville is an unincorporated community in Essex County, in the U.S. state of Virginia. U.S. Route 17, which transects the community, has a roadside historical marker commemorating the Rappahannock Industrial Academy. Natives of the community include Pauline C. Morton.
