Province of Pescara

Pescara Jazz is an international jazz festival that takes place every year in July in Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy. When it started in 1969 it was the first Italian summer festival dedicated to jazz. Since 1981, the festival has take place every year. Performers have included Dave Brubeck, Natalie Cole, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Ella Fitzgerald, Stan Getz, Dizzie Gillespie, Herbie Hancock, Woody Herman, Wynton Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Charles Mingus, Oscar Peterson, Wayne Shorter, and Sarah Vaughan.

Pescara (Italian: [pesˈkaːra] ; Abruzzese: Pescàrë; Pescarese: Piscàrë) is the capital city of the province of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is the most populated city in Abruzzo, with 118,657 (January 1, 2023) residents (and approximately 350,000 including the surrounding metropolitan area). Located on the Adriatic coast at the mouth of the River Aterno-Pescara, the present-day municipality was formed in 1927 joining the municipalities of the old Pescara fortress, the part of the city to the south of the river, and Castellamare Adriatico, the part of the city to the north of the river. The surrounding area was formed into the province of Pescara. The main commercial street of the city is Corso Umberto I, which runs between two squares, starting from Piazza della Repubblica and reaching the seacoast in Piazza Primo Maggio. The rectangle that it forms with Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and Via Nicola Fabrizi is home of the main shopping district, enclosed in a driving restriction zone, where several of the best fashion shops are located. Corso Manthoné, the course of the old Pescara, has, for many years, been the center of the nightlife of the city. City hall and the administration of the province are in Piazza Italia, near the river, and in the area between here and the D'Annunzio University campus to the south, a business district has grown up over the years, while the Marina is situated to the immediate south of the mouth of the river. Pescara is also served by an important international airport, the Abruzzo Airport, and one of the major touristic ports of Adriatic Sea and Italy, the Port of Pescara.

The Basilio Cascella Civic Museum (Italian: Museo civico Basilio Cascella) is an Italian pinacotheca based in Pescara in the Porta Nuova district. The museum is located in the former lithographic establishment established at the end of the nineteenth century by the painter Basilio Cascella. The building, for half a century the center of artistic production and meeting place for intellectuals such as Gabriele D'Annunzio, Luigi Pirandello, and Giovanni Pascoli, was donated to the Comune of Pescara in 1966 by the heirs of Cascella. Thanks to the initiative of Giuseppe Quieti, in 1975 the structure was used as a civic museum dedicated to the dynasty of Cascella artists. The art gallery houses a collection of around 600 works of painting, sculpture, ceramics and graphics, created between the 19th and 20th centuries by Basilio Cascella and his descendants, including his sons Tommaso and Michele, and his grandsons Andrea Cascella and Pietro. Since 2017, the museum has been managed by the Genti d'Abruzzo Foundation.

Pescara Cathedral (Italian: Duomo di Pescara, Cattedrale di San Cetteo Vescovo e Martire) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the Via D'Annunzio in the city of Pescara. The cathedral, dedicated to Saint Cetteus, patron saint of Pescara, has been the seat of the Archbishop of Pescara-Penne since the creation of the archdiocese in 1982. The present Romanesque Revival building, originally called the Tempio della Conciliazione ("Temple of Conciliation"), was constructed in the 1930s, replacing the medieval church of San Cetteo.

Aternum was a Roman town, on the site of Pescara, in Italy. Some historians also refer to Aternum with the name of Ostia Aterni, due to its location at the mouth of the river Aternus. Being connected to Rome through the Via Tiburtina and its extension the Via Valeria, Aternum played a crucial in connecting the capital to the Eastern provinces of the Empire. Its harbour, largely occupied by commercial and fishing ships, was supposedly also used for military purposes. The main building was the temple of Jovis Aternium but there are traces of other temples dedicated to Roman and even Egyptian divinities. Moreover, there are reports about the construction of a monumental bridge by the emperor Tiberius.

Pescara Porta Nuova is a railway station in Pescara, Italy. The station opened in 1883 and is located on the Adriatic railway and Rome–Sulmona–Pescara railway. The train services are operated by Trenitalia.

Pescara Centrale railway station (Italian: stazione ferroviaria di Pescara Centrale), also known as Pescara railway station (Italian: stazione ferroviaria di Pescara), is the main railway station of Pescara. The station lies on the Adriatic line from Rimini to Lecce and the trans-Apennine line to Rome. It serves an average of 3.5 million people per year and is a 5-minute walk to the city's main street and to the beach. The commercial area of the passenger building is managed by Centostazioni SpA, whereas the Italian Railway Network (RFI) is responsible for the railway infrastructure.

The port of Pescara is an Italian port on the Adriatic Sea at the mouth of the River Pescara in the city of Pescara.
