WIJD (1270 AM) is a radio station licensed to the community of Prichard, Alabama, United States, and serves the greater Mobile, Alabama, area. The station is owned by Wilkins Communications Network Inc. and the license is held by the Mobile Bay Corporation. It airs a Christian talk radio format.

Whistler was an unincorporated community in Mobile County, until the 1950s when it was annexed into neighboring Prichard. The founding of Whistler, in the 1850s, coincided with construction of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad. The M & O, an early land grant railroad, eventually extended from Mobile to the Ohio River, and beyond to St. Louis, Missouri, and Chicago, Illinois. The town, seven miles north-northwest of Mobile, developed around the M & O shops. Whistler was named for famous railroad construction engineer and West Point Military graduate George Washington Whistler, who was father of James McNeill Whistler. The younger Whistler was painter of "Arrangement in Grey and Black," better known as "Whistler's Mother." Currently the US Postal Service ZIP code 36612 is accepted as Whistler. Eight Mile Creek flows along much of the northern side of Whistler, before joining Chickasabogue, a tributary of the Mobile River. During Whistler's heyday, both creeks provided popular swimming holes for cooling off during hot summer months. U.S. Route 45, the southern terminus of which is in Mobile, passes through Whistler en route to Chicago and on to Lake Superior, in Michigan's upper peninsula. Most modern-day travelers use Interstate 65, which passes on the eastern edge of the town. I-65 goes from Mobile to the shores of Lake Michigan, just east of Chicago at Gary, Indiana. Whistler was annexed into the City of Prichard in the 1950s, thus the Prichard 36612 ZIP Code. At that time, many historic Whistler street names were changed, due to duplication with Prichard street names or to continue Prichard street names. The annexation of Whistler and neighboring Eight Mile resulted in the highest census population ever for Prichard: 47,371.

Chickasaw Shipyard Village Historic District is a historic district comprising buildings and areas within Chickasaw, Alabama, which is a northern suburb of Mobile in Mobile County. The site is historically significant due to its role as a company town for the Gulf Shipbuilding Corporation shipyard during the first half of the twentieth century. In addition, Chickasaw was the subject of a United States Supreme Court case, Marsh v. Alabama (1946) upholding the First Amendment rights of individuals living in privately owned towns, because the towns were operated as public places. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 3, 2004.

Eight Mile is an unincorporated community in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. The community is named for its distance from the city of Mobile. Part of it was annexed in the mid-20th century by the city of Prichard, Alabama.

Chickasabogue Park is an 1,100-acre (450 ha) park in Eight Mile, Mobile County, Alabama. The park contains campgrounds, around 17 miles (27 km) of hiking and biking trails, a disc golf course, sports fields, boat launches, and a beach on Chickasabogue Creek. It is linked via Chickasabogue Creek to the town of Chickasaw and Mobile Bay. The park also contains a museum featuring Native American, Colonial, and plantation-era artifacts, housed in a former African Methodist Episcopal church built in 1879.

John L. LeFlore Magnet High School of Advanced Communication and Fine Arts is a historic public magnet performing arts high school located in Toulminville, Mobile, Alabama, United States. The school is also accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It currently enrolls 947 students in grades 9-12, and is a part of the Mobile County Public School System. Toulminville is a neighborhood of Mobile, Alabama, United States. It began as a small settlement on the property of Harry Theophilus Toulmin, who served as Sheriff of Mobile County in the 1830s. During the American Civil War, Toulminville was mapped along the Mobile and Ohio Railroad as a significant settlement, northwest of Mobile (see map). In 1945, the remainder of Toulminville was annexed into the city of Mobile. The area of Toulminville has varied over the past decades from being an upper-middle class suburb to having a serious crime problem during most of the 1980s and 1990s, although the trend has been reversed in recent years.

WABF (1480 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Mobile, Alabama. It is owned by Donald Pugh, through licensee Eternity Media Group WABF, LLC, broadcasting an oldies and adult standards radio format. WABF's radio studios are on North Church Street in Fairhope. By day, WABF is powered at 5,000 watts non-directional. At night, to avoid interference to other stations on 1480 AM, WABF reduces power to 4,400 watts and uses a directional antenna. The transmitter is on Dumaine Road at Conception Street Road in Mobile. WABF shares its transmitter site with co-owned WERM (1220 AM). The current hosts are Lori DuBose and Mark Swalley.
