New Hope, Alabama

New Hope High School (NHHS) is located in New Hope, Alabama, United States. It is part of the Madison County Schools system. The current principal is David Manning. Enrollment as of the end of the 2021 school year is 600 students in grades 7–12.

Butlers' Store is a group of three historic commercial buildings in New Hope, Alabama. The Butler family began their dry goods and hardware business in the 1850s, and in 1909 built 2 two-story buildings on New Hope's main street. The central building was used for a general merchandise, dry goods, and hardware store and office space. It features a five-bay façade with cast iron columns separating large glass panes atop wood panel bulkheads on the storefront level. Large transom windows over the main windows cast light into the room with 18-foot (5.5-meter) ceilings and a mezzanine in the rear. The northern building was used for a bank until the Great Depression, after which it was connected to the central building and used as a grocery store. It is shorter than the central building, due to a lower ceiling on the ground floor. Both of the older buildings have brick corbelling and slightly arched second-floor windows. The one-story southern building was constructed in 1939 and housed a furniture store. Three bays in width, its ground floor appearance is similar to the northern building, but its roofline is more plain. The business flourished from the 1930s to the 1950s, when it also sold farm equipment, fertilizers, and building materials, and bought cotton and cottonseed. Business declined as agriculture waned and commercial activity in nearby Huntsville increased, and the company closed in the mid-1970s. Today, the buildings are owned by the city of New Hope, and house a police station, city hall, and public library. They were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

Owens Cross Roads is a city in Madison County, Alabama, United States, and is included in the Huntsville-Decatur Combined Statistical Area. It was incorporated in 1967. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,594. The City has a mayor-council form of government.

The Paint Rock River is a 58.7-mile-long (94.5 km) tributary of the Tennessee River in northern Alabama in the United States. Its tributaries also drain a portion of south-central Tennessee.The river is formed in northeastern Jackson County by the confluence of Estill Fork and Hurricane Creek, and flows generally southwardly, past the town of Paint Rock. In its upper course, the river flows through a deep valley cut into the Cumberland Plateau. In its lower course, the river is used to define part of the boundary between Madison and Marshall Counties.

Keel Mountain is a mesa in Madison and Jackson Counties in Alabama. It is associated with the Cumberland Plateau, which it is separated from by the valley of the Paint Rock River. It is named for early pioneers Jesse and Priscilla (Whitaker) Keel, who settled there from North Carolina prior to 1810.

Bucksnort is an unincorporated community in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. A post office served the area near Bucksnort and operated under the name Keel from 1889 to 1907.

Guntersville Lake (generally referred to locally as Lake Guntersville) is an artificial lake in northern Alabama between Bridgeport and Guntersville.

Guntersville Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the Tennessee River in Marshall County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is one of nine dams on the river owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority, which built the dam in the late 1930s as part of a New Deal era initiative to create a continuous navigation channel on the entire length of the river and bring flood control and economic development to the region. The dam impounds the Guntersville Lake of 67,900 acres (27,500 ha), and its tailwaters feed into Wheeler Lake. Guntersville Dam is named for the city of Guntersville, Alabama, which is located about 10 miles (16 km) upstream. The city is named for its first settler, John Gunter (d. 1836), who arrived in the late 18th century.

The Madison County Nature Trail a.k.a. Green Mountain Nature Trail is a 72-acre (29 ha) park in Huntsville, Alabama. It is located above the surrounding communities atop Green Mountain in southeast Huntsville. A 1.5-mile (2.4 km) trail surrounds 17-acre (6.9 ha) Sky Lake. Facilities include a covered bridge, picnic area and open air pavilion. The Nature Trail is recognized as a Treasure Forest by the Alabama Forestry Commission. It is also considered a Wildlife Sanctuary. The entire park is owned, operated and funded by the Madison County Commission although it lies within the city limits of Huntsville.
