St. Mary's County Regional Airport (IATA: LTW, FAA LID: 2W6), also known as Captain Walter Francis Duke Regional Airport, is a public airport located in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States, four miles (six km) northeast of the central business district of Leonardtown. The airport is also located 8 nmi (15 km) west of Naval Air Station Patuxent River. It is owned and operated by the St. Mary's County Board of County Commissioners.St. Mary's County Regional Airport has been in operation since 1969. The airport was re-dedicated as the Captain Walter Francis Duke Regional Airport in 2000. It recently reverted to its original name.

Sotterley Plantation is a historic landmark plantation house located at 44300 Sotterley Lane in Hollywood, St. Mary's County, Maryland, USA. It is a long 1+1⁄2-story, nine-bay frame building, covered with wide, beaded clapboard siding and wood shingle roof, overlooking the Patuxent River. Also on the property are a sawn-log slave quarters of c. 1830, an 18th-century brick warehouse, and an early-19th-century brick meat house. Farm buildings include an early-19th-century corn crib and an array of barns and work buildings from the early 20th century. Opened to the public in 1961, it was once the home of George Plater (1735–1792), the sixth Governor of Maryland, and Herbert L. Satterlee (1863–1947), a New York business lawyer and son-in-law of J.P. Morgan.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Sotterley was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2000, its national significance due to the extremely rare surviving elements of the main house's oldest phase, a c. 1717 post in ground structure, and the other elements of its later historical architecture and landscape.

Greenwell State Park is a public recreation area located on the Patuxent River in St. Mary's County, Maryland. The state park features the historic Rosedale Manor House as well as the Bonds-Simms tobacco barns complex. Park activities include hiking, cycling, horseback riding, fishing, picnicking, hunting, swimming, and canoeing.

Wildewood is a planned community and census-designated place (CDP) in St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. It is in east-central St. Mary's County, 7 miles (11 km) east of Leonardtown, the county seat, and 58 miles (93 km) southeast of Washington, D.C. It is bordered to the east by the unincorporated community of California. Wildewood was first listed as a CDP prior to the 2020 census which listed a population of 7,821.

Resurrection Manor was a historic home located near Hollywood, St. Mary's County, Maryland, United States. It was built amidst a 4,000-acre (16 km2) farm granted to Thomas Cornwaleys in 1650. It was an example of early brick architecture in the United States dating from about 1660 to 1720. It was originally built as a one-room house with a steep stair leading to the garret. A 1½-story addition was added to the house, transforming its footprint into a hall-and-parlor configuration.Resurrection Manor was listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1970. In 2002, the house was demolished to make room for a single-family home; National Historic Landmark designation for Resurrection Manor was withdrawn on February 17, 2006.

St. Andrew's Church is a historic church located at 44078 St. Andrew's Church Road, California near Leonardtown, St. Mary's County, Maryland. It was built in 1766 to serve as the parish church of St. Andrew's Parish, which had been established in 1744. It is a rectangular brick box church laid in Flemish bond with a gable roof and round-arched windows trimmed with brick segmental arches. At two corners stand two-story square brick towers with a diminutive spire. Richard Boulton designed the church in 1766; he was also responsible for the outstanding carving and ornamentation at Sotterley. George Plater (1735-1792), who briefly served as Maryland's governor before his death, was an active parish member, serving twenty-eight years as a vestryman.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Broomes Island is a small waterfront community and census-designated place (CDP) located at the southern terminus of MD 264 in Calvert County, Maryland, United States, on the Patuxent River. It is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) south of Prince Frederick, the county seat. As of 2019 Census estimates, the population of the CDP was 421.Although Broomes Island is a rather small community, it does have its own post office and zip code, 20615. In November 2007, the United States Postal Service considered closing the small post office and re-routing all mail delivery through the larger St. Leonard post office branch. After residents contacted US Senator Barbara Mikulski about the proposed closure, the postal service decided against closing the post office.Broomes Island is located near the mouth of St. Leonard Creek, the largest tributary of the Patuxent River entirely inside Calvert County. It is in the vicinity of Broomes Island that several key naval battles were fought during the War of 1812. During the early and mid-20th century, Broomes Island had a substantial oyster canning industry. In recent years most residents of Broomes Island commute to other places for work. Each May, former Maryland State Senator Bernie Fowler has held a "wade-in" at Broomes Island, where he and others would walk into the waters of the Patuxent River until their feet were no longer visible. This was held on the property of Mr. Donald Rogers with his permission. Fowler started the annual tradition to bring awareness to the water clarity levels of the Patuxent. In recent years, the "wade-in" has become a noteworthy public event, with numerous public officials joining Fowler in the walk, including Maryland Governors Martin O'Malley and Robert Ehrlich and U.S Senator Barbara Mikulski. It no longer takes place at this location. In 2003, Hurricane Isabel caused moderate damage to numerous structures in Broomes Island. Most notably, the last remains of the considerable Broomes Island oyster industry - a large red oyster shucking barn - succumbed. The site of the oyster shucking barn is now part of the local Stoney's sea food restaurant. The site is now a venue for weddings and other functions.

St. Mary's Peninsula is part of the Western Shore region of Maryland. From the Charles County line, just north of Charlotte Hall, Maryland, to the southern tip of St. Mary's County at Point Lookout State Park, St. Mary's Peninsula stretches about 39 miles (63 km). It is bordered on the southwest by the Potomac River, on the north and east by the Patuxent River and on the east by Chesapeake Bay. From the end of these two rivers, the peninsula has about 15 miles of shoreline along the Bay's western shore from Lexington Park, Maryland to Point Lookout. Its shoreline stretches for a total of 536 miles along the Patuxent River, Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.Conterminous with the boundaries of St. Mary's County, the peninsula covers a land area of 361.25 square miles (935.6 km2).Northeast of St. Mary's Peninsula, on the opposite side of the Patuxent River, is the smaller Calvert Peninsula. Like St. Mary's Peninsula, Calvert Peninsula also has boundaries conterminous with a single Maryland county.

Students come from St. Mary's, Calvert, Charles, southern Prince George's, and King George counties. The school colors are blue, green and white, and the official mascot is the knight.
