Peterman is an unincorporated community in Houston County, Alabama, United States, located 5.5 miles (8.9 km) west-southwest of downtown Dothan.

Rehobeth is a town in Houston County, Alabama, United States. Rehobeth, originally named Sanders, began as a crossroads community in the 1890s; however, it was not until 1996, that the town was incorporated. Rehobeth is part of the Dothan Metropolitan Statistical Area. At the time of the 2010 census, the population was 1,297, up from 993 at the 2000 census.

The National Peanut Festival (NPF), the United States' largest peanut festival, is held each fall in Dothan, Alabama, to honor peanut growers and to celebrate the harvest season.Established in 1938, the fairgrounds are located on Highway 231 South, three miles south of the Ross Clark Circle. The festivities include games and amusement rides on a large midway, animal acts, agricultural displays, an outdoor amphitheater with live music concerts by national recording artists, beauty pageants, arts and crafts displays, contests, food and a two-hour parade. The National Peanut festival also sponsors and holds field crop exhibits with prizes awarded to each exhibitor. The peanut festival also has other competitions, including sewing, cake decorating, photography, who has grown the biggest peanut, cooking, and art. Every year, crowds of people enjoy the festival. There was no festival between 1942 & 1946. In 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic there was also no festival, instead the carnival who hosted the festival went to the local mall and had some acts and performances.

Wells Fargo Arena (formerly Ameris Arena) is a 3,000-seat indoor arena located in Dothan, Alabama. It is part of the National Peanut Festival complex, and is used for sporting events including rodeos. It is also used for concerts. Wells Fargo Arena is unique in that its sides have no walls; the arena's stands are built of aluminum. The arena takes up 60,000 square feet (5,600 m2) of space and contains a dirt floor.

Rip Hewes Stadium is a 10,000-seat stadium located in Dothan, Alabama. It is primarily used as the home of the Dothan High School football and soccer teams, as well as other sporting and community events. It formerly shared home field with Dothan High School and Northview High School. Evangelist Billy Graham once held an evangelistic campaign event here during his second trip through Dothan. His previous event was held at the First Baptist Church, Dothan. Due to the overwhelming crowds at the First Baptist Church, his evangelistic campaign was held at Rip Hewes Stadium on his second trip to the area. Although it was pouring rain, crowds poured into the stadium to hear the gospel message.

Houston Academy is a non-profit independent college preparatory school in Dothan, Alabama. The school offers instruction to children from preschool through grade 12. The nineteen acre campus is located on the west side of Dothan in a middle class residential area.

The high school district roughly runs down U.S. Highway 84, which runs east to west through the heart of Dothan.

Dothan ( DOH-thən) is a city in and the county seat of Houston County in the U.S. state of Alabama. A slight portion of the city extends into Dale and Henry counties. It is Alabama's eighth-largest city, with a population of 71,072 at the 2020 census, and the 5th largest in Alabama by total Area. It is near the state's southeastern corner, about 20 miles (32 km) west of Georgia and 16 miles (26 km) north of Florida. It is named after the biblical city where Joseph's brothers threw him into a cistern and sold him into slavery in Egypt.Dothan is the principal city of the Dothan, Alabama metropolitan area, which encompasses all of Geneva, Henry, and Houston counties; the small portion in Dale County is part of the Ozark Micropolitan Statistical Area. Together they form the Dothan-Ozark Combined Statistical Area. Coffee County and its Enterprise micropolitan area was originally combined as a statistical area with both Dothan and Ozark as well, but is now split off as its own statistical area by the US Census Bureau. Together they form the Alabama portion of the Wiregrass region, of which Dothan is that portion's largest city. The combined population of the entire Dothan metropolitan area in 2010 was 145,639. The city is the main transportation and commercial hub for a significant part of southeastern Alabama, southwest Georgia, and nearby portions of the Florida Panhandle. Since approximately one-fourth of the U.S. peanut crop is produced nearby, much of it processed in the city, Dothan is known as "The Peanut Capital of the World". It also hosts the annual National Peanut Festival at the Peanut Festival Fairgrounds.

The Main Street Commercial District is a historic district in Dothan, Alabama. The district covers 18 acres (7 ha) and portions of 6 blocks in Dothan's historic commercial district. At the time of the nomination, it contained 68 contributing properties, however many have been demolished in the intervening years. Dothan was founded on the site of Poplar Head Springs, which was an important crossroads in the Muscogee lands. Logging was the area's first major industry, but did not develop until after the Civil War. Settlers began building saw mills and blacksmith shops, and encouraged commercial development by donating land and bricks to new settlers. The town was incorporated in 1885, and began a period of great expansion with the coming of the Alabama Midland Railway in 1889. The oldest buildings in the district date from the 1900s, including the three-story Wadlington Hotel (built 1900, demolished 2012) and the Neoclassical First National Bank (1907). Several brick warehouses were also constructed along the railroad line. A symbol of the town's rapid growth, a five-story office building was completed in 1914. Cotton had replaced lumber as the economic engine of the region, but the boll weevil outbreak of the 1910s sent Dothan into a recession. Fewer buildings date from beyond this period, including the Malone Motor Company Building (1923) and the Kress Building (1928). The importance of the downtown core declined after the 1960s, as retail establishments relocated to outlying areas.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, also known as U.S. Post Office and Court House, is a historic government building in Dothan, Alabama.

The Dothan Opera House is a historic performing arts venue in Dothan, Alabama. It was built in 1914–15 as a municipal auditorium by the growing town. Seating 800, it opened October 8, 1915, with a performance by a local orchestra. The building was designed by Atlanta architectural firm Morris & Morris in a blend of Classical Revival and Italianate styles. The first floor features three central arched entry doors, with a pair of arched windows on either side. The second story is dominated by Ionic pilasters, four in the center section, and three on each side. The pilasters support a limestone architrave beneath a denticulated cornice and parapet roof. On the parapet, in line with each column in the center section is a figurine of an opera singer. A mural painted on the backdrop of the stage depicts the building under construction and some of the more famous acts to have performed in the theater.A new civic center was built across the street in 1971, and the opera house was refurbished at the same time. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
