Numerous parks are located nearby, including Long Branch Stream Valley Park to the south, Daniels Run Park to the west and Woodburn Road Park and Accotink Stream Valley Park to the northeast.

The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States (AMCSUS) is a nonprofit service organization of schools with military programs approved by the Department of Defense and which maintain good standing in their regional accrediting organizations. The purpose, as put forth in the AMCSUS Constitution, is "to promote the common interest of all members and to advance their welfare; promote and maintain high scholastic, military and ethical standards in member schools; represent the mutual interests of the member schools before the Department of Defense as well as the general public; foster and extend patriotism and respect for duly constituted authority; and cultivate citizens who love peace and who strive to maintain it."Member military schools have armed services personnel detailed to the campus with the approval of the Department of Defense. The schools organize their student bodies as a cadet corps, with students habitually in uniform and continually under military discipline while at the college or school. Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is the largest hospital campus in Northern Virginia and the flagship hospital of Inova Health System. Located in Woodburn in Fairfax County, Virginia, Inova Fairfax Hospital is one of the largest employers in the county. Inova Fairfax Hospital is also home to a neonatal intensive care unit, and a dedicated pediatrics intensive care unit, an oncology unit, an adolescent medicine unit, and centers for cardiac surgery and pediatric surgery. The Inova Fairfax Hospital can be more accurately described as a campus encompassing three hospitals: the Inova Fairfax Hospital proper, which includes the original building, the Inova Children's Hospital, and the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute.

Eakin Community Park is a 57-acre (23 ha) county park in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is managed by the Fairfax County Park Authority. The park runs roughly northwest to southeast along Accotink Creek. The northwest corner is bordered by Pickett Road and Arlington Boulevard, and the southeast corner is bordered by Woodburn Road. Barkley Road and Prosperity Avenue cut across the park and over Accotink Creek.

Rutherford is an unincorporated community in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It lies South of Virginia State Highway 236 (a.k.a. Little River Turnpike), North of Virginia State Route 620 (Fairfax and Loudoun Counties) (a.k.a. Braddock Road), East of Olley Lane, and West of Guinea Road. This is west of Annandale, east of the independent city of Fairfax. Rutherford Park, Rutherford Area Swim Club and Fairfax County Public Schools Little Run Elementary School are located in the community. Other parks are located nearby, including Long Branch Stream Valley Park to the south, Daniels Run Park to the west and Woodburn Road Park and Accotink Stream Valley Park to the northeast. The Rutherford community consists of approximately 700 homes.
