Lerkendal Station

Lerkendal (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈlæ̂rkn̩dɑːɫ]) is a borough in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The borough was established on 1 January 2005 in a municipal borough reform that reduced the number of boroughs in the city. The borough of Østbyen lies to the east, Midtbyen lies to the northwest, and Heimdal lies to the southwest. The boroughs oversee health, welfare, and education for their residents.The borough is located south of Gløshaugen and Elgeseter, west of Berg, north of Tempe and mostly east of the river Nidelva. The area is dominated by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, SINTEF, and Lerkendal Stadion (the home stadium of Rosenborg). The area also has a railway line, Stavne–Leangen Line, running through it with one station, Lerkendal Station, that is served by the local tran service Trøndelag Commuter Rail. The borough of Lerkendal consists of the neighborhoods and villages of Bratsberg, Dragvoll, Elgeseter, Flatåsen, Gløshaugen, Lerkendal, Moholt, Nardo, Risvollan, Sjetnemarka, Valentinlyst, Fossegrenda and Åsvang.

The Ugelstad Laboratory was founded at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway, in January 2002 to commemorate the late Professor John Ugelstad. The laboratory specialises in surfactant chemistry and its technical applications, emulsions and emulsion technology, preparation of polymers and polymer particles - such as the monosized microbeads - and their technical applications, plasma chemical modification of surfaces and silica-based chemistry. Applications include crude oil production and processing, wood pulp and paper, biomedicine, catalysis and material science. The main purpose is to raise the national level of colloidal science.

The Lerkendal Stadion (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈlæ̂rkn̩dɑːɫ ˈstɑ̀ːdɪɔn]) is an all-seater football stadium located at Lerkendal in Trondheim, Norway. The home ground of the Eliteserien (2017) side Rosenborg BK, it has a capacity for 21,405 spectators, making it the second-largest football stadium in the country. Lerkendal opened as a multi-purpose stadium on 10 August 1947, as the main football and athletics stadium in Trondheim. Originally the venue was mostly used by the football teams SK Freidig and FK Kvik, and Rosenborg did not become a tenant until 1957. A new grandstand with roof was completed in 1962, and floodlights were installed in 1968. The oldest of the current stands were built in 1996, along with new lighting. Three more grandstands were built between 2000 and 2002, which also saw the removal of the athletics facilities and the sale of the stadium from Trondheim Municipality to Rosenborg. Further expansions plans have been launched, to increase capacity by filling in the corners and possibly by building a retractable roof. The record attendance of 28,569 dates from the decisive league match against Lillestrøm in 1985. Ten international matches were held at Lerkendal between 1951 and 1990. One domestic cup final has been held at Lerkendal; the Women's Cup Final in 1986.

SINTEF (Norwegian: Stiftelsen for industriell og teknisk forskning), headquartered in Trondheim, Norway, is an independent research organization founded in 1950 that conducts contract research and development projects. SINTEF has 2000 employees from 75 countries and annual revenues of three billion Norwegian kroner. SINTEF has a close partnership with Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), started in 1950 when SINTEF was founded. SINTEF has expertise in technology, medicine and the social sciences. Alexandra Bech Gjørv is the CEO of SINTEF, preceded by Unni Steinsmo, Morten Loktu and Roar Arntzen.

In 2017 the department was merged with the Department of Geology and Mineral Resources Engineering, forming the new Department of Geoscience and Petroleum. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is the key university of science and technology in Norway. The Department of Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics (IPT) was established in 1973, shortly after the start of production (Ekofisk field) from the Norwegian continental shelf. The department came to include Petroleum Engineering as well as Geophysics, which is seen as a major strength of the petroleum education at NTNU. The department has elected chairman and vice chairman, and 4 informal groups of professors; geophysics, drilling, production and reservoir engineering. The stated primary purpose of maintaining the informal groups is to take care of the teaching in their respective disciplines. Each group is responsible for offering a sufficient number of courses, semester projects and thesis projects at M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels in their discipline, and to make annual revisions of these in accordance with the needs of society and industry. The total number of professors, associate professors, assistant professors and adjunct professors is 32. The administrative staff is led by a department administrator, and consists of a total of 6 secretaries. The technical support staff reports to the department head, and consists of 8 engineers and technicians. Until 2000, the department was part of the Applied Earth Sciences faculty, together with the Geology-department. After that, the department is part of the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (one of a total of 10 departments). Centre for Renewable Energy (short: SFFE, from Norwegian Senter for fornybar energi) is a virtual research centre owned by Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), SINTEF, Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) and University of Oslo (UiO). SFFE was established in 2004, initially as a unifying organ for SINTEF and NTNU. IFE and UiO became co-owners of the Centre in 2005 and 2011, respectively. The goal of SFFE is to increase the quality, efficiency and scope of education, research, development and innovation within renewable energy in Norway. SFFE works to coordinate the available competence and the research and education activities localized at its member institutions. In 2010, the internal network in the member institutions included more than 400 scientists (including doctoral students) working on renewable energy. The current leader of the Centre is Gabriella Tranell (associate professor at Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU).Together, the owners of SFFE represent Norway's largest resource in renewable energy research. Research fields at the Centre include small scale hydropower, wind energy, solar energy, wave energy, and bio-energy as well as the social dimensions of energy use. Competence has recently been developed in ocean energy fields, especially research on offshore wind power and tidal power.

Rosenborg Ballklub, commonly referred to simply as Rosenborg (Urban East Norwegian: [ˈrùːsn̩bɔrɡ]) or RBK, is a Norwegian professional football club from Trondheim that plays in Eliteserien. The club has won a record 26 league titles, a shared record 12 Norwegian Football Cup titles and have played more UEFA matches than any other Norwegian team. RBK play their home games at the all-seater Lerkendal Stadion which has a capacity of 21,421. The club was founded as Odd in 1917 but were not allowed to play amateur league matches until 1928, when they took the present name. They reached the League of Norway in 1937–38, but were relegated to lower divisions during the 1940s. The club moved to Lerkendal in 1957 and their first title was the 1960 Cup, resulting in their first participation in a UEFA tournament. It was not until the 1960s that RBK was established as Trondheim's leading football team. In 1967 RBK was promoted to the top league where they, except for the 1978 season, have remained ever since. They won three league titles between 1967 and 1971. The club's golden era started with the 1985 league title. From 1991 through 2004 the team won 13 consecutive titles, 10 under manager Nils Arne Eggen. During this period, they also participated in the group stage of Champions League 11 times, reaching the quarter-finals in 1996–97.

Gløshaugen is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the borough of Lerkendal, approximately 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) southeast of Midtbyen, the downtown center of Trondheim. It is situated east of the neighborhood of Elgeseter, west of Singsaker, and north of Lerkendal.Gløshaugen is the site of NTNU Gløshaugen, the main campus and buildings of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It was the previously the site of the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) which became a part of the NTNU merger. Most of the university science and engineering buildings are located at Gløshaugen.

Tempe Church (Norwegian: Tempe kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the Lerkendal area in the city of Trondheim, between the old European route E6 highway and Lerkendal Stadion. It is one of the churches for the Nidelven parish which is part of the Strinda prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white plastered brick church was built in a long church style in 1960 using plans drawn up by the architect Roar Tønseth. The church seats about 240 people.

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU; Norwegian: Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet) is a public university in Norway and the largest university by enrollment in the country. The university's headquarters campus is located in Trondheim, with regional campuses in Gjøvik and Ålesund.NTNU in its current form was established by the King-in-Council in 1996 by the merger of the former University of Trondheim and other university-level institutions, with roots dating back to 1760, and has later also incorporated some former university colleges. NTNU is consistently ranked in the top one percentage among the world's universities, usually in the 400–600 range depending on ranking. As of November 2022, the university has about 9,000 employees and 42,000 students.NTNU has the main national responsibility for education and research in engineering and technology, and is the successor of Norway's preeminent engineering university, the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH), established by Parliament in 1910 as Norway's national engineering university. In addition to engineering and natural sciences, the university offers higher education in other academic disciplines ranging from medicine, psychology, social sciences, the arts, teacher education, architecture and fine art. NTNU is well known for its close collaboration with industry, and particularly with its R&D partner SINTEF, which provided it with the biggest industrial link among all the technical universities in the world. The university's academics include three Nobel laureates in physiology or medicine: Edvard Moser, May-Britt Moser and John O'Keefe.

The Norwegian Institute of Technology (Norwegian: Norges tekniske høgskole, NTH) was a science institute in Trondheim, Norway. It was established in 1910, and existed as an independent technical university for 58 years, after which it was merged into the University of Trondheim as an independent college.In 1996 NTH ceased to exist as an organizational superstructure when the university was restructured and rebranded. The former NTH departments are now basic building blocks of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). NTH was primarily a polytechnic institute, educating master level engineers as well as architects. In 1992 NTH had 7627 master and doctoral students and 1591 employees; it graduated 1262 chartered engineers (master level), 52 chartered architects, and 92 Dr.Ing. (PhD). The operating budget was equivalent to US$100M, and the total premises amounted to around 260,000 m2 (64 acres). Since the merger, it forms a part of the university campus commonly known as Gløshaugen, from the geographical area in which it is situated.

Singsaker is a neighbourhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located north of the neighborhood of Moholt, east of Gløshaugen, west of Tyholt and Rosenborg, and south of Bakklandet, in the borough of Midtbyen. The area consists almost completely of residential villa housing, despite being quite close to the city center of Trondheim.The neighbourhood is regarded as one of the most affluent in the city, although its close proximity to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology makes it a popular place for student housing, including Singsaker Studenterhjem. Between 1927 and 1968, Singsakerlinjen tram line went from the city center to Singsaker, extending onward to Rosenborg.
