Kilrush

Kilrush is a parish in County Clare and part of the Inis Cathaigh grouping of parishes within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe.Current (2022) co-parish priest is Pat Larkin.

Kilrush Town Hall (Irish: Halla an Bhaile Cill Rois) is a municipal building in the Market Square, Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland. The building is currently used as by Clare County Council as offices for the delivery of local services.

Kilrush Marina is a locked marina in Kilrush Harbour, Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland. It has a well equipped marina services building, with an extensive boatyard, including a large indoor boat storage and repair facility. Many boats from other leisure boating centres on the West Coast of Ireland winter in Kilrush. Originally funded by Shannon Development the marina has grown to be an integral part of the local economy. The marina is used as a base for day trips to Scattery Island and for Dolphin Watch cruises. The marina is operated by Kilrush Marina Ltd, which is a wholly owned subsidiary company of L&M Keating Ltd. The marina is located on the north side of the estuary of the River Shannon. The next marina to the south is Fenit Marina. For leisure craft, the next port of call, going north, is in the Aran Islands. Kerry Head on the south side and Loop Head on the north are the limits of the Shannon Estuary Navigation control of the Shannon Estuary comes under the control of the Shannon Foynes Port Company

Inis Cathaigh or Scattery Island (Irish: Inis Cathaigh) is an island in the Shannon Estuary, Ireland, off the coast of Kilrush, County Clare. The island is home to a lighthouse, a ruined monastery associated with Saints Senan and Canir, an Irish round tower and the remains of an artillery battery. The last residents left in 1969. Most of the island is now owned by the Office of Public Works, who run a small visitor centre and carry out repairs and maintenance on the island; it was bought by Dúchas in 1991.The Irish name Inis Cathaigh was formerly anglicised Iniscathy, which later became Iniscattery and finally Scattery.

The West Clare Railway (WCR) originally operated in County Clare, Ireland, between 1887 and 1961. This 3 ft (914 mm) narrow-gauge railway ran from the county town of Ennis, via numerous stopping-points along the West Clare coast to two termini, at Kilrush and Kilkee, with the routes diverging at Moyasta Junction. The system was the last operating narrow gauge passenger system in Ireland and connected with the mainline rail system at Ennis, where a station still stands today for bus and train services to Limerick and Galway. Intermediate stops included Ennistymon, Lahinch and Milltown Malbay. A preservation society maintains a railway museum at Moyasta Junction station, and successfully re-opened a section of the railway as a passenger-carrying heritage line with diesel traction in the 1990s, and with steam motive power from 2009. The Railway was notorious for poor timekeeping, resulting in litigation and a celebrated comic song.

Moyasta (Irish: Maigh Sheasta, meaning 'plain of Asta') is a hamlet in County Clare, Ireland, situated between Kilkee and Kilrush on the N67. The hamlet is bordered by the Moyasta River, flowing from the bogs to Poulnasherry Bay.

Moneypoint power station (Irish: Stáisiúin Chumhachta Ghob na Muine) is Ireland's largest electricity generation station (output 915 MW) and only coal-fired power station. Commissioned between 1985 and 1987, it is located on the River Shannon near Kilrush, County Clare. It was constructed at a cost of more than £700m in one of the largest capital projects in the history of the state. The station operates largely on coal, making it both unique in the context of Irish electricity production and the country's single largest emitter of greenhouse gases. It is capable of meeting around 25% of customer demand across the country. It has two Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) storage tanks with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes which can be used as a back-up fuel if required.Three Brown Boveri four-cylinder, single-shaft impulse reaction turbines are directly connected to three generators which generate the power. The steam is generated by three Foster Wheeler two-pass boilers, which convert water into high pressure steam by combustion of the coal. The power station chimneys, at 218m, are the tallest free-standing structures in Ireland.

The siege of Carrigafoyle Castle took place on Easter in 1580 near modern-day Ballylongford, County Kerry, Ireland, on the southern bank of the Shannon estuary. The engagement was part of the English crown's campaign against the forces of Gerald FitzGerald, 14th Earl of Desmond during the Second Desmond Rebellion. The castle was held by rebel troops in the service of Desmond and some Catholic troops from continental Europe.

Cooraclare (Irish: Cuar an Chláir, meaning 'recess of the plain') is a village near Kilrush, in County Clare, Ireland, and a Catholic parish by the same name.

Cooraclare, also known as Kilmacduane, is a parish in County Clare and part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. As of 2021, the co-parish priest was Anthony Casey.The main church of the parish is the St. Senan's Church in Cooraclare, completed in 1836. This is a cruciform church. It was built in the time that the parish was still united with Kilmihil. Stones from the mediaeval church in Kilmacduane were used for this building.The second church of the parish is the St. Mary's Church at Cree. This church was built in 1828 and predates the main church by several years.

Kilmacduane is a civil parish in County Clare, Ireland. It contains the villages of Cooraclare and Cree.
