Hanoi Opera House

The Hilton Hanoi Opera Hotel is a hotel located in central Hanoi in the historic French Quarter. It opened in 1999. The World Travel Awards deemed it Vietnam’s Leading Hotel for five consecutive years from 2004 to 2008. It features accommodations such as an outdoor swimming pool with view of the Opera House, gym, spa and sauna, Vietnamese cuisine, cabaret jazz music, ballroom, and function rooms. The hotel closed on December 1, 2022 for major renovations. It will reopen in 2025 as the Waldorf Astoria Hanoi.

Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), formerly the Hanoi Securities Trading Center (Hanoi STC) until 2009, is located at No. 02, Phan Chu Trinh, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, Vietnam. The exchange was launched on March 8, 2005, and handles auctions and trading of stocks and bonds. It was the second securities trading center to open in Vietnam after the Ho Chi Minh City Securities Trading Center.

Lycée Albert Sarraut was a French lyceum in Hanoi, Vietnam, during the French colonial period and in the early post-colonial period, active from 1919 to 1965. It was one of 69 high schools founded by the French in their colonies worldwide, named for Albert Sarraut. The school offered high standard academic programs for students between the ages of 11 and 18. It is currently the Trần Phú - Hoàn Kiếm High School.

The Vietnam National Museum of History (Vietnamese: Viện Bảo tàng Lịch sử Việt Nam) is in the Hoan Kiem district of Hanoi, Vietnam. The museum building was an archaeological research institution of the French School of the Far East under French colonial rule (Louis Finot École Française d'Extrême-Orient EFEO) of 1910, was extensively refurbished in 1920. It was redesigned between 1926 and 1932 by architect Ernest Hébrard. The museum was acquired by the government of North Vietnam (now the government of Vietnam) in 1958 and then the artifact collections were expanded to cover eastern arts and national history. The museum highlights Vietnam's prehistory (about 300,000–400,000 years ago) up to the August 1945 Revolution. It has over 200,000 exhibits displayed covering items from prehistory up to the 1947 revolution and founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, arranged in five major sections.

Hanoi University of Pharmacy, formerly Indochina Medicine School, located in Hanoi, Vietnam, was established by decree of the French government signed by Indochina General Governor Paul Doumer on 8 January 1902. The school was responsible for training doctors, Indochina pharmacists and research in tropical diseases. On 29 September 1961, the Ministry of Health issued Decision No. 828/BYT/QD to split Hanoi College of Medicine - Pharmacy into two schools: Hanoi Medical College and Hanoi College of Pharmacy. The rector and Party Committee Secretary was pharmacist Vu Cong Thuyet; vice-rector was Professor Truong Cong Quyen. In 1985, Hanoi College of Pharmacy became Hanoi University of Pharmacy.

Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is a five-star historic luxury hotel, opened in 1901 as Grand Métropole Hotel in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. It is today one of the most important buildings of Vietnam in French colonial style. The hotel today has 364 rooms.

The State Bank of Vietnam (Vietnamese: Ngân hàng Nhà nước Việt Nam) is the central bank of Vietnam. It currently holds an about 65% stake of VietinBank – the country's largest listed bank by capital.

Tràng Tiền Plaza is a shopping center located in the downtown of Hanoi, Vietnam. The complex's construction began on April 30, 2000 when Vietnamese people celebrated 25th anniversary of The liberation of the south of Vietnam. The complex was finished after 18 months of construction.

The Embassy of the Philippines in Hanoi is the diplomatic mission of the Republic of the Philippines to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. It is located at 27B Tran Hung Dao Street, Hanoi. The embassy provides consular services and deals with diplomatic affairs. It opened on 20 August 1977 after diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Vietnam were established on 12 July 1976.

Đại La (Chinese: 大羅城; pinyin: Dàluóchéng), means the Citadel of the Great Dike, or La Thành (羅城, means the Citadel of the Dike) was an ancient fortified city in present-day Hanoi during the third Chinese domination of the 7th and 8th centuries, and again in the 11th-century under Lý dynasty.Đại La was constructed by jiedushi Gao Pian in 866. It was the seat of Songping County during the Tang dynasty, and was capital of the Tĩnh Hải quân. In 1010, Lý Công Uẩn decided to move his capital away from the cramped Hoa Lư (present-day Ninh Bình). Đại La was favored because of its central and convenient location, defensible terrain and relatively dry climate. According to the Đại Việt sử ký toàn thư, a Yellow Dragon appeared near Lý Công Uẩn's boat when he passed by Đại La. The sighting was considered as greatly auspicious by his ministers. Subsequently, the city was renamed Thăng Long ("rising dragon").

The siege of Songping or the siege of Hanoi was the pivotal part of Nanzhao's great offensive in 863. Nanzhao was in alliance with local tribal rebels, against the Tang dynasty who was currently in control of the Red River Delta in modern-day northern Vietnam. The siege took place in Songping (modern-day Hanoi), capital of Tang's frontier Protectorate General to Pacify the South in early 863 during the reign of Emperor Yizong. It was the fourth time since 858 that Songping was attacked by Nanzhao forces The siege was one of the most important and tragic events in the history of Vietnam before the tenth century. With 50,000 men from its main army and other tribal mercenaries combined, the Yunnanese approached Songping and issued an ultimatum to surrender or die. They laid siege on the city from mid-January until its fall on 1 March, resulting in military disaster and the retreat of Tang forces out of the region in 2 years.

The International Control Commission (abbreviated ICC; French: Commission Internationale de Contrôle, or CIC), was an international force established in 1954. More formally called the International Commission for Supervision and Control, the organisation was actually organised as three separate but interconnected bodies, one for each territory within the former French Indochina, being treated as a single state having two temporary administrations: the ICSC for Vietnam; the ICSC for Laos; and the ICSC for Cambodia.It oversaw the implementation of the Geneva Accords that ended the First Indochina War and brought about the Partition of Vietnam. It monitored the observance of the ceasefires and noted any violations. The organization consisted of delegations of diplomats and military personnel from: Canada, Poland, and India, representing respectively the non-communist, communist, and non-aligned blocs. The ICC/ICSC started well, but the irreconcilable positions soon told, and the organisation became largely irrelevant in the face of an increasingly-active conflict. Nevertheless, it survived, as a communications link, until the Paris Accords were signed and it was reconvened as the International Commission for Control and Supervision.
