Bettystown

Laytown–Bettystown–Mornington–Donacarney (Irish: An Inse–Baile an Bhiataigh–Baile Uí Mhornáin–Domhnach Cairnigh) is a built up area in County Meath, Ireland, comprising the adjoining villages of Laytown, Bettystown, Mornington and Donacarney. Prior to 2016, it was listed as Laytown–Bettystown–Mornington. On the east of County Meath, its coastline stretches from the River Boyne, which borders County Louth to the River Delvin, which borders County Dublin. This stretch of beach is 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) long and constitutes the whole coastline of County Meath. It is one of the fastest-growing areas of the country, with a population increase of 31.8% from 2016 to 2022.

Coláiste na hInse colloquially referred to by locals as The Coláiste, is a co-educational secondary school in Bettystown, County Meath, Ireland. Whilst English is the Coláiste's primary language of instruction, it places an emphasis on the use of Irish on a day to day basis.

Laytown (Irish: An Inse, meaning 'the holm') is a village in County Meath, Ireland, located on the R150 regional road and overlooking the Irish Sea. Historically it was called Ninch, after the townland it occupies. Together with the neighbouring villages of Mornington, Bettystown and Donacarney, it comprises the census town of Laytown–Bettystown–Mornington–Donacarney, which recorded a population of 15,642 in the 2022 census.

The River Boyne (Irish: An Bhóinn or Abhainn na Bóinne) is a river in Leinster, Ireland, the course of which is about 112 kilometres (70 mi) long. It rises at Trinity Well, Newberry Hall, near Carbury, County Kildare, and flows towards the Northeast through County Meath to reach the Irish Sea between Mornington, County Meath, and Baltray, County Louth.

Laytown railway station (Irish: Stáisiún na hInse) serves Laytown and Bettystown in County Meath, Ireland. It is about 20 minutes' walk from the venue of yearly Laytown races.

Donacarney (Irish: Domhnach Cearnaigh or Domhnach Cairnigh) is a village in County Meath, Ireland, close to Drogheda and the border with County Louth. It contains one church, two estates, two schools, and one pub. Although it includes the townlands of Donacarney Great and Donacarney Little, most locals would never use those terms in describing Donacarney. The remains of a late-medieval tower house (see picture to right) are sited close to Donacarney Cross. It is described in the Down Survey (1654–56) as "an ould Castle". It appears in this state on a map of 1771. Blackhills Crescent, Donacarney, takes its name from the area known as the Black Hills or Black Hill Lands north of the crossroads and the castle, the old name of which was Croc a' Searra in Irish. Together with the neighbouring villages of Laytown, Bettystown and Mornington, it comprises the urban area of Laytown–Bettystown–Mornington–Donacarney with a combined population of 15,642 at the 2022 census.

Baltray (historically Ballytra, from Irish: Baile Trá, meaning 'town of the beach') is a village and townland in County Louth, Ireland. It sits on the northern shore of the River Boyne estuary.

Mosney Railway Station opened in June 1948 to serve Butlin's Holiday Camp in County Meath, Ireland and closed in the summer of 2000, the last season during which the camp operated.

Mosney Accommodation Centre (formerly Butlin's Mosney and Mosney Holiday Centre) is located in Mosney, County Meath, Ireland and is situated approximately 48 km (30 mi) from Dublin. It is probably best known as the site of a Butlin's holiday camp in the second half of the 20th century and as the site for the national finals of the Community Games. By the early 21st-century, this had been converted into an accommodation centre for asylum-seekers. The centre was served by Mosney railway station, which closed down in 2000. Currently, it ranks as the biggest earning direct provision Centre in Ireland.

County Louth Golf Club is a links golf course located in the village of Baltray, County Louth in Ireland. It is situated approximately 4 miles from the town of Drogheda. The Irish Open professional golf tournament which is part of the PGA European Tour has been held there on two occasions, in 2004 and 2009.The current course was designed in 1938 by Tom Simpson and is laid out over 190 acres (77 ha) of land. The 18-hole course par score is 72 with a course length of 7031 yards.

Mornington (Irish: Baile Uí Mhornáin, meaning 'town of the mariner') is a coastal village on the estuary of the River Boyne in County Meath, Ireland approximately 5 km downriver from the centre of Drogheda. Together with the neighbouring villages of Laytown, Bettystown and Donacarney, it comprises the urban area of Laytown–Bettystown–Mornington–Donacarney with a combined population of 15,642 at the 2022 census.The large townland of 1,223 acres (4.95 km2) is bound on the north by the River Boyne estuary and on the east by the Irish Sea. The townland extends along the seashore to Bettystown village and includes part of that village up to and including The Neptune Hotel. The townland, part of the civil parish of Colpe, touches on other townlands: Betaghstown to the south, Colp East and Colp West to the west and Donacarney Great and Donacarney Little to the south and west. Stameen lies to the west. Baltray, Beaulieu and Banktown lie across the Boyne. Mornington can also refer to a larger area, a half-parish, within the Laytown-Mornington Roman Catholic parish established in 1986, and formerly part of the parish of St. Mary's in Drogheda. Mornington was also a former post office sub-district and used by a wider area for address purposes up to the 1980s.

Mosney (Irish: Maigh Muirí, meaning 'plain of Mairid') is a townland and village in County Meath, Ireland. It is in the civil parish of Moorechurch 35 km (22 mi) north of Dublin city centre, and 10 km (6 mi) south-east of Drogheda. It was best known as the site of a Butlin's holiday camp during the second half of the 20th century and as the site for the national finals of the Community Games. By the early 21st century, the holiday camp had been converted into an accommodation centre for asylum-seekers. The village was served by Mosney railway station until 2000. Early in the 19th century, Mosney was a manor house and part of the estate of the Peppers of Ballygarth Castle. By the mid-20th century, the house was the home of the farm steward of Mosney and was lived in by Johnny Oram whose father had been the previous farm steward.
