Churchill Downs

The Kentucky Derby Museum is an American Thoroughbred horse racing museum located on the grounds of Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Dedicated to preserving the history of the Kentucky Derby, it first opened its doors to the public in the spring of 1985. Much of its early funding came from a donation from the estate of James Graham Brown. The museum consists of two floors of exhibit space, including a 360-degree theater that shows the HD film The Greatest Race. Through the film and exhibits, visitors can learn what goes into the breeding and training of a young foal and the path it takes to the Kentucky Derby's winner circle. Every Kentucky Derby win is honored in the Warner L. Jones Time Machine, where visitors can watch any Kentucky Derby from 1918 to the present day. Exhibits highlight the stories of owners, trainers and jockeys as well as the importance of African American jockeys and trainers to the race and the Thoroughbred industry. Guided tours of Churchill Downs' barn and infield areas, jockeys' quarters, "millionaires row" and press box are also offered. Exhibits were designed by Bruce Burdick's San Francisco design firm The Burdick Group.

South Louisville is a neighborhood two miles south of downtown Louisville, Kentucky, US. "South Louisville" or "South Side" is also used to describe the entire area of Southern Louisville. The neighborhood itself is bounded by Industry Road, the CSX railroad tracks, Central Avenue, Taylor Boulevard, Longfield Avenue, Compton Street, Thornberry Avenue, Colorado Avenue, Euclid Avenue, and Lincoln avenue. The world-famous Churchill Downs horse racing track and Kentucky Derby Museum are located in South Louisville. The area was originally owned by the Churchill family and was developed as streetcar lines extended southward to the area in the 1870s. The population grew greatly in the 1890s as many factories were constructed along several rail lines in the area, including the Kentucky Wagon Company. The area flourished and even incorporated as a city in 1886. The city of Louisville fought to annex the area, and did so after a three-year lawsuit, in 1898. As factories in the area closed in the 1970s, the area greatly declined as middle class residents left, leaving behind only low-income residents and abandoned factories. The area began to see new development as the University of Louisville began to expand its campus southward, with a new football stadium completed in 1998, a baseball stadium completed in 2005, and a soccer stadium completed in 2014, all built on former brownfield sites. A shopping center was built in 2004. Several of the abandoned factory buildings are slated to be converted into condominiums in the next few years. In 1937 there was a destructive flood. South Louisville is increasingly becoming an immigrant centered neighborhood, with a large Hispanic and Arab populations. Since 2006, a Mosque and several Middle Eastern food stores have opened in the area. As of 2000, the population of South Louisville was 4,688.

Holy Name Church Rectory, Convent and School is a historic church at 2920 and 2914 S. 3rd Street and 2911 and 2921 S. 4th Street in Louisville, Kentucky. It was built in 1902 and added to the National Register in 1982. However, in 2022 - despite having been added to the National Register, which protects historic buildings - the Archdiocese of Louisville took legal measures that allowed Catholic Charities to demolish the school building to make a parking lot. The Convent is also due for demolition, though plans for its footprint have yet to be determined. (A local Louisville architectural firm offered to purchase and restore the buildings, which had been illegally neglected by Catholic Charities, but the Archdiocese of Louisville convinced the Court a private parking lot would better serve the community, even though the community advocated for restoration.)

The Roscoe Goose House is a historic house at 3012 South Third Street in Louisville, Kentucky. Built about 1891, it is a 2+1⁄2-story brick building with Italianate and later Victorian styling. It has a low-pitch hip roof with bracketed cornice, a wall dormer rising at the center of the front facade, a single-story porch that wraps across the front and around the left side, and a large arched window on the ground floor next to the main entrance. It was home to jockey Roscoe Goose from 1913 until about 1970.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Epworth Methodist Evangelical Church, also known as Trinity Baptist Temple, is a historic Gothic Revival church at 412 M. Street in Louisville, Kentucky. It was built in 1895 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It is a one-story gable-front building. In 1983 it was the oldest of six surviving frame Gothic Revival churches in Louisville.

Jim Patterson Stadium is a baseball stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. It is the home field of the University of Louisville Cardinals college baseball team. It hosted the 2007 NCAA Super Regionals, where the Cardinals defeated Oklahoma State two games to one to advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. Since then, the Cardinals have hosted an NCAA Division I Baseball Championship every year since the year of 2012. In 2016, the Cardinals ranked 27th among Division I baseball programs in attendance, averaging 2,606 per home game. Along with that, the Cardinals have been ranked in the top 10 amongst other collegiate baseball teams in the nation according to Baseball America. Coach Dan McDonnell has been the head coach of the Louisville Cardinals baseball team since the year of 2007 after coming from Ole Miss as an assistant coach. Since making his way to Louisville, he has led the team to four College World Series and seven NCAA Super Regionals.

The Immanuel Chapel Protestant Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky, which has also been known as Emmanuel Episcopal Church, is a historic church at 410 Fairmont Avenue. It was built in 1909 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.It has lancet windows down its sides. By 1983, a new church had been built next door and this building was no longer used for church services, but it was used for other purposes by the congregation.

Wilder Park is a neighborhood four miles south of downtown Louisville, Kentucky USA. The area was originally the site of Greenland race course, built in 1866, a sister track of Churchill Downs. Greenland track closed in 1888 and the area became the Wilder Park neighborhood. The first houses in Wilder Park were built off Southern Parkway in 1891. The rest of the area was completed by 1901 as streetcar lines linked the neighborhood to Iroquois Park and new factories in South Louisville. In 1904, Wilder Park was part of the incorporated city of Oakdale, until the city of Louisville annexed it in 1922. A memorial to South Louisville veterans of the Second World War is located in Wilder Park in the 3900 block of south Second Street.

Wyandotte (formerly Oakdale), is a neighborhood on the southside of Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Its modern boundaries are Longfield Avenue to the north, Taylor Boulevard to the west, I-264 to the south, and Southern Parkway to the east. The opening of Iroquois Park in the early 1890s created a huge demand for suburban homes south of Louisville. The Coleman-Bush company had begun selling lots in a subdivision called Oakdale in late 1890. Oakdale was one of many middle-class communities created at this time, facilitated by the southward extension of streetcar lines. Oakdale incorporated in 1904, and annexed nearby Churchill Downs as well as parts of other nearby neighborhoods. In 1916 however, Oakdale, along with other nearby cities such as Highland Park, was annexed by Louisville. Though the communities fought this, it was ultimately dismissed in federal court in 1921, and Oakdale became a part of Louisville in 1922. Wyandotte Park, named after the Wyandotte tribe, was opened in 1935 in western Oakdale. This would eventually lead to the entire neighborhood being officially renamed Wyandotte in the 1970s, though many residents still call it Oakdale.

L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium, also known as L&N Stadium and formerly known as Cardinal Stadium and Papa John's Cardinal Stadium, is a football stadium located in Louisville, Kentucky, United States, on the southern end of the campus of the University of Louisville. Debuting in 1998, it serves as the home of the Louisville Cardinals football program. The official seating capacity in the quasi-horseshoe-shaped facility was 42,000 through the 2008 season. An expansion project that started after the 2008 season was completed in time for the 2010 season has brought the official capacity to 55,000. An additional expansion project aiming to close the open end of the horseshoe to add 6,000 additional seats was announced on August 28, 2015, and was completed in 2019.

Taylor-Berry is a neighborhood in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. Its boundaries are Taylor Boulevard to the east, Berry Boulevard to the south, Seventh Street Road to the west, and Algonquin Parkway to the north.

The J. B. Speed School of Engineering was founded in 1924 as part of the University of Louisville in the U.S. state of Kentucky with money from the James Breckenridge Speed Foundation which was created by his children William S. Speed and Olive Speed Sackett to honor J. B. Speed. Until 2003, it was known as the J. B. Speed Scientific School. The school is colloquially referred to as Speed School or just Speed by students and locals.
