Colebrooke River

The Tempo River is a small river in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The river rises near Dooneen Forest, flows through the town of Tempo, finally joining with the Colebrooke River before it enters Upper Lough Erne. The Tempo River locale has been designated as an Area of Special Scientific Interest in Northern Ireland.The underlying geology of the river is old red sandstone, carboniferous limestone and basal clastic bedrock with extensive sand and gravel deposits throughout its length. The river is lowland riffle and run dominated with occasional deeper sections of glide.The Tempo is one of the few rivers in Northern Ireland which still retains a substantial population of the freshwater pearl mussel. This species was once very common, covering large areas of riverbed in many of the river systems of Northern Ireland. In recent decades it has undergone a dramatic decline and has totally disappeared from all but a small number of rivers. The decline has been largely due to historical pearl fishing and more recently river engineering works and poor water quality. Remnant populations such as that occurring at the Tempo River are of considerable conservation importance as they are generally genetically and morphologically distinct and may be useful in any future conservation or reintroduction programme. The Freshwater Pearl Mussel population in Tempo River was assessed as 'stable' in a 2018 study by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee.Animals found in the river include otters, white-clawed crayfish, kingfishers, Atlantic salmon, and brown trout.

St. Comhghall's College was a Roman Catholic co-educational school providing secondary level education to pupils from age 12 to 18 years. The school was situated outside Lisnaskea, a small town in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The college opened in September 1970.The college was named after St. Comhghall an early Irish saint based on Lough Erne. The college motto was "Pray and Work Together". Most of the students were from Lisnaskea, Maguiresbridge, Newtownbutler, the Knocks and Donagh. The last principal of the college was Gary Kelly and the last vice principal was Brian Armitage.St. Comhghall's College closed its doors to students in July 2017. It amalgamated with St. Eugene's College Roslea to form a new school called St. Kevin's College, following a decision made by the CCMS and passed by the then Education Minister John O'Dowd. The new school is situated on the old site of St. Comhghall's College. The school was officially unveiled in January 2017 and the event was attended by special guests such as Monsignor Joseph McGuinness and DUP Leader Arlene Foster.

Lisnaskea railway station was on the Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway in Northern Ireland. The Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway opened the station on 26 August 1858.It closed on 1 October 1957.

Aghalurcher (Irish: Achad-urchaire, Achad-lurchaire, meaning 'Field of the Cast') was a pre-Norman monastery located east of the shore of upper Lough Erne, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, founded according to legend by Saint Ronan in the sixth to early seventh century and dedicated to him in the ninth century. The site includes the ruins of a medieval church with a small gated vault (locked) — where sculptural fragments are stored — and a gateway constructed with stones from the church. The church was remodelled in 1447 with a new roof added. The site seems to have been abandoned after a murder on the altar effectively deconsecrated the church.The site includes some interesting gravestones of the late eighteenth century, plus an early medieval carved head on the gateway. Additional sculptural fragments from the site are at the Fermanagh County Museum at Enniskillen Castle.

Maguiresbridge railway station was on the Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway in Northern Ireland. The Dundalk and Enniskillen Railway opened the station on 1 March 1859.It closed on 1 October 1957.

Maguiresbridge is a small village in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The village is named after the bridge over the Colebrooke River, first built by the local Maguire family about 1760. The village is 8 miles from Enniskillen and 3 miles from Lisnaskea.

St Mary's, Maguiresbridge is a Roman Catholic chapel in Maguiresbridge, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, erected c. 1822. The church's main source of light is pointed windows, and the altar is embellished with a painting. St Marys church is in the parish of Lisnaskea-Maguiresbridge (Aghalurcher) in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clogher. It is a Grade B listed building.

Castle Balfour is a castle situated in Lisnaskea, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It sits at the edge of the parish graveyard just west of Main Street. The castle is a State Care Historic Monument sited in the townland of Castle Balfour Demesne, in the Fermanagh and Omagh district area, at grid ref: H3622 3369.

Castle Balfour Demesne is a townland of 201 acres in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is situated in the civil parish of Aghalurcher and the historic barony of Magherastephana. It contains part of the small town of Lisnaskea, with the remainder in the townland of Lisoneill.The townland contains the 17th-century remains of Castle Balfour, just off the main street in Lisnaskea, built around 1618 by James, Lord Balfour of Glenawley. The castle was altered in 1652 and damaged in 1689, but remained inhabited into the 19th century. It was restored and conserved in the 1960s and 1990s.There was also evidence of a very much earlier ringfort (with radiocarbon dates of 359-428 AD) in the townland suggesting the area was inhabited from a very early date. The listed Church of Ireland Holy Trinity Church is also situated in the townland.

Lisnaskea (from Irish Lios na Scéithe, meaning 'fort of the shield') is the second-biggest settlement in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. It is situated mainly in the townland of Lisoneill, with some areas in the townland of Castle Balfour Demesne, both in the civil parish of Aghalurcher and the historic barony of Magherastephana. It had a population of 3,020 people at the 2021 Census.The nearby monument of Sciath Ghabhra is where the Maguires were crowned as kings and chiefs of Fermanagh. The town developed after the Plantation of Ulster and is built around the long main street. At the middle, the old market place, formerly known as The Diamond, contains a high cross (grid ref:H364340) from an early monastery. 19th century buildings include the former market house, corn market and butter market. The Castle Park Leisure Centre is situated just off the main street.

Carrybridge is a hamlet in County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, 8 km north-west of Lisnaskea and 11 km south-east of Enniskillen. It is situated in the townland of Aghnacarra in the civil parish of Derrybrusk and the historic barony of Magherastephana.The hamlet is named from a bridge connecting the island of Inishmore in Upper Lough Erne with the mainland. The bridge is named from the townland of Carry on the island, which name translates as 'causeway' or 'rocky ford', perhaps referring to a feature replaced by the bridge.It serves as a marina and boat hire centre. The area contains Derryharney Church of Ireland and the Carrybridge Hotel, as well as the bridge over the narrows at the outflow from Upper Lough Erne.

Lisnaskea was a constituency of the Parliament of Northern Ireland. It was located in County Fermanagh and included the namesake town of Lisnaskea.
