Markham Museum

Mount Joy is a community located in the north part of Markham, Ontario, Canada near Highway 48 and 16th Avenue and part of the former Township of Markham. Mount Joy became a police village in 1907, but absorbed into Markham Village in 1915. A non-farm settlement developed on Main Street North and Peter Street from Beech Street to 16th Avenue. Like Quantztown, the former farm land in the area has given way to new homes. Only a handful of homes on Peter Street, former George Rodd General Store / Mount Joy Post Office and the old Mount Joy Public School (built 1907 and closed 1969) are left of the former police village.

St. Brother André Catholic High School is a Catholic secondary school in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Grades 9 to 12 are taught, with religious studies included in the curriculum. It is named after Saint André Bessette (also known as Brother André), a 20th-century Catholic religious brother in Montreal responsible for the construction of the Saint Joseph's Oratory. Mount Joy GO Station is a railway station and bus station in the GO Transit network located in the City of Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the community of Mount Joy, north of the old town of Markham, at the intersection of Markham Road and Bur Oak Avenue and is a stop on the Stouffville line train service. It is also the northern terminus of most of the Stouffville line's off-peak train services.

Bur Oak Secondary School (BOSS) is a public secondary school in Markham, Ontario, Canada established in 2007, and is part of the York Region District School Board. The school was named after the road which it is built on, which in turn is named for the city of Markham's official tree, the Bur oak. As of 2018, the school has a student population of approximately 1600.

Greensborough (2006 population estimated 5,000) (Census Tract Number 5350403.03) is a community in the city of Markham in the Regional Municipality of York in the Canadian province of Ontario. Greensborough is one of the easternmost communities in Markham, and with the exception of Dickson Hill, is also the northernmost. The community is situated just north of Markham Village (a heritage district along Main St. Markham), west of Cornell, and east of Mount Joy. It includes the area north of 16th Avenue, west of Ninth Line, south of Major MacKenzie Drive and east of Markham Road. Parts of the community's northern area remain uninhabited (as residential development continues).

Raymerville - Markville East (2006 population 10,562) (Census Tract No. 5350400.03 and 5350400.12) is a community in Markham, Ontario, Canada. The name "Raymerville" came from the community's major collector road, Raymerville Drive. The name "Markville" came from the local major shopping mall, Markville Shopping Centre. The community is referred to as "Markville East" because it is located immediately east of Markville Shopping Centre. It is also one of the very few communities in Markham that has a declined population when compared to the population in the 2001 census.

Markham Village Town Hall, also called Old Town Hall, is a building at 96 Main Street North in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and was the home to Markham Town Council from 1882 until it moved to a location on Woodbine Avenue. It was built in 1882 by local builder John Wilson in an Italianate architecture style, with brick, from a local brickyard, laid by mason Joseph Sampson.Besides council chambers the building was home to a local jail, and to Masonic and Oddfellow Lodges.The building was sold in 1946, was a cinema until 1980 until it was reconstructed to its original facade and modified internal structure by Tony Baggio CPEng. As of March 2016, it housed business offices and was one of many historically preserved buildings on Main Street Markham. It was designated a heritage site under the Ontario Heritage Act on April 23, 1985. The designation lists the following the features (excerpted from reference): two storey coral brick exterior shed roof entrance with semi-circular fanlight and voussoirs of yellow brick yellow brick detailing in voussoirs and joining string courses decorated cornice heavy timber truss supporting second storey and roof round headed windows reconstructed brick chimneys

Markham () is a city in the York Region of Ontario, Canada. It is approximately 30 km (19 mi) northeast of Downtown Toronto. In the 2021 Census, Markham had a population of 338,503, which ranked it the largest in York Region, fourth largest in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and 16th largest in Canada.The city gained its name from the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe (in office 1791–1796), who named the area after his friend, William Markham, the Archbishop of York from 1776 to 1807. Indigenous people lived in the area of present-day Markham for thousands of years before Europeans arrived in the area. The first European settlement in Markham occurred when William Berczy, a German artist and developer, led a group of approximately sixty-four German families to North America. While they planned to settle in New York, disputes over finances and land tenure led Berczy to negotiate with Simcoe for 26,000 ha (64,000 acres) in what would later become Markham Township in 1794. Since the 1970s, Markham rapidly shifted from being an agricultural community to an industrialized municipality due to urban sprawl from neighbouring Toronto. Markham changed its status from town to city on July 1, 2012.As of 2013, tertiary industry mainly drives Markham. As of 2010, "business services" employed the largest proportion of workers in Markham – nearly 22% of its labour force. The city also has over 1,000 technology and life-sciences companies, with IBM as the city's largest employer. Several multinational companies have their Canadian headquarters in Markham, including: Honda Canada, Hyundai, Advanced Micro Devices,Johnson & Johnson, General Motors, Avaya, IBM, Motorola, Oracle, Toshiba, Toyota Financial Services, Huawei, Honeywell, General Electric and Scholastic Canada.

Markham Village (2006 population 6,090) is the historic town centre of Markham, Ontario, Canada. Originally settled in 1825, the village, which was originally named "Reesorville" (in reference to the Reesor family of settlers) sometime after 1804 and also known as "Mannheim" (likely after Mannheim), was founded by Mennonites from Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. Eventually, as Upper Canada (now Ontario) started to experience immigration from the British Isles, Markham would experience significant growth. By 1825, the name "Markham" was established as the permanent name. In 1850, it was established as a police village, and in 1873 was fully incorporated as a village within York County. Markham was amalgamated with the surrounding Markham Township, which included the villages of Unionville and Thornhill in 1971, and incorporated as a town.

Markham District High School (or MDHS) is a public high school in the city of Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is one of 32 high schools in the York Region District School Board. Until the 2016–17 academic year, it was the only publicly funded school within York Region which had a non-semestered system. In the 2016–17 academic year, the school switched to a semestered system.

Markham Public Library (MPL) is a library system operated by the municipal government of the City of Markham in Canada. There are eight branches in the city, serving about 250,000 residents in Markham. The libraries are managed by the Administration Centre, located at 6031 Highway 7. In 2008, the system was renamed to the singular Markham Public Library to reflect its status as one unified system. Its current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Catherine Biss.
