William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility is an Alabama Department of Corrections prison for men located in unincorporated Jefferson County, Alabama, near Bessemer. It came to national prominence after the Casey White prison escape.

Hueytown competes in AHSAA Class 6A athletics. According to the website "Niche.com" Hueytown High was ranked #48 among the "Top fifty Alabama High Schools for Athletes" in 2020, one of only two Jefferson County School System schools to be so recognized among the state's more than 347 high schools.

Today much of the community's residential neighborhoods lie within the corporate limits of the City of Birmingham and much of its business district lie within the corporate limits of the City of Hueytown. The most notable landmark is the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, which was established in 1818, before Alabama was admitted as a state to the Union. Its adjoining church cemetery contains the graves of some of Jefferson County's early pioneer settlers, such as James Tarrant, Mortimer Jordan, and Isaac Wellington Sadler.

At its 2010 census the population was 836, down from its peak population of 973 in 2000. Its communities were damaged by an F5 tornado on April 8, 1998. The town's name is possibly derived from the Creek word omalga meaning "all". Possibly the most notable person from Mulga is "Phyllis" a frequent caller into the Paul Finebaum radio show on ESPN. "Phyllis" was a strong supporter of Alabama Crimson Tide football and did not hesitate to let Paul and his listeners know where she stood on the topic. "Phyllis" died on May 11, 2023.

Bayview is a community in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. It is north from the Birmingham suburb of Pleasant Grove. This community is built around Bayview Lake. It voted to be annexed by its nearest town of Mulga. However, Bayview today retains its own community identity.
