Byesville Scenic Railway is a tourist railroad located in Byesville, Ohio. Service was suspended in 2011, and as of late 2021 has not resumed. The railway is a non-profit group dedicated to preserving the local coal mining and railroad history in Guernsey County, Ohio, United States. The railroad runs on track that was originally known as the Cleveland & Marietta Railroad and later became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad. The primary freight hauled was coal, as Guernsey County was a large producer of coal. It later became part of the Penn Central Railroad due to a merger of the Pennsylvania and New York Central and later Conrail. In the early 1980s most of the C&M was removed, the remaining portion from Cambridge to C&M Junction (just south of Derwent) was sold to the Chessie System (which later became CSX Transportation). Guernsey County purchased Byesville to C&M Junction in 1999 which lay dormant until 2003 when the Buckeye Central Scenic Railroad began operating a tourist train from Byesville, Ohio to Derwent. In 2006, the newly formed Byesville Scenic Railway (BSRW) began operations and has continued the rehabilitation of line to C&M Junction. BSRW plans call for the rebuilding the old B&O Eastern Ohio branch to Cumberland, Ohio

State Route 313 (Clay Pike Road) runs on the southern edge of Derwent, and its interchange with Interstate 77 is a little over 1 mile (1.6 km) away. Major cities nearby include Zanesville (33.5 miles (53.9 km)) and Marietta (40 miles (64 km)). The intersection of two cross-country highways (Interstate 77 and 70) is 8 miles (13 km) away. The Penn Central rail line ran through the eastern portion of Derwent (heading south to Marietta) and which crossed the Baltimore and Ohio rail line ran immediately to the south, heading toward Cumberland, Ohio and which eventually terminated at the Muskingum Electric Railroad. The former Penn Central line is in the process of being rebuilt by the Byesville Scenic Railway.

Leatherwood Creek (Wills Creek tributary)

Leatherwood Creek is a tributary of Wills Creek, 28.6 miles (46.0 km) long, in eastern Ohio in the United States. Via Wills Creek and the Muskingum and Ohio rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 91.6 square miles (237 km2) on the unglaciated portion of the Allegheny Plateau. Leatherwood Creek rises just outside the western boundary of the village of Barnesville in Warren Township in Belmont County and flows generally westward, first through a small portion of northeastern Beaver Township in Noble County, and into Guernsey County where it flows through Millwood, Richland, Wills, Center, and Cambridge townships, and through the villages of Quaker City, Salesville, and Lore City. It flows into Wills Creek in the southern part of the city of Cambridge. Leatherwood Creek was named for the leatherwood which grew along its course.
