The Long Hill Township School System is a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade in Long Hill Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2019–20 school year, the district, comprised of three schools, had an enrollment of 894 students and 80.6 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.1:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. Gillette is a station on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex Lines of NJ Transit in Long Hill Township, New Jersey. It is located at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Jersey Avenue in the Gillette portion of Long Hill Township.

Berkeley Heights is an active commuter railroad train station in the borough of Berkeley Heights, Union County, New Jersey. Operated by New Jersey Transit, the station services trains on the Gladstone Branch between Summit and Gladstone.

Watchung Hills Regional High School is a regional comprehensive public high school and school district serving students in portions of Somerset and Morris Counties in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Students from Warren Township and from the neighboring communities of Watchung, and Green Brook in Somerset County and Long Hill Township in Morris County attend the school. The high school is located in Warren Township, on Stirling Road. In 2022, U.S. News & World Report ranked the school 107th of the 445 high schools in New Jersey and 2643rd in the country, with 54% of students participating in Advanced Placement exams.

Free Acres is an unincorporated community located along the border of Berkeley Heights in Union County and Watchung in Somerset County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Free Acres was created in 1910 as a social experiment by Bolton Hall, an Irish-born New York entrepreneur, reformer and follower of Leo Tolstoy. Hall believed in economist Henry George's idea of single taxation, under which residents pay a land value tax to the community based on the value of the land alone, and in turn, the community pays a lump sum to the municipality. The 75-acre (300,000 m2) wooded community of 85 households is located about 33 mi (53 km) west of New York City. Residents own their houses, but pay a lease for the land, which is owned collectively by the community. Free Acres contains a farmhouse and a spring-fed pool. Residents of Free Acres still pay tax to the Free Acres Association, which is now a more common version of the property tax, based on the value of the land and any improvements. The association maintains the community's streets and swimming pool, approves architectural changes to homes, and pays a lump sum in taxes to the two municipalities. Among the early residents of Free Acres were author Thorne Smith and his wife Celia, and actor James Cagney and his wife Billie. It has been home to scientists who worked at the nearby Bell Labs Murray Hill.

From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.The district's high school serves public school students of Berkeley Heights, along with approximately 300 students from neighboring Borough of Mountainside who are educated at the high school as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Mountainside School District that is covered by an agreement that runs through the end of 2021-22 school year. Governor Livingston provides programs for deaf, hard of hearing and cognitively-impaired students in the district and those who are enrolled from all over north-central New Jersey who attend on a tuition basis.

Stirling is a NJ Transit station in the Stirling neighborhood of Long Hill Township, New Jersey along the Gladstone Branch of the Morris and Essex line. The station consists of one side platform, as well as a concrete block shelter constructed in August 1974 after the former Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad depot was demolished. The Erie Lackawanna Railroad demolished the old depot on August 14, 1972 without notifying then-Passaic Township.

Black Brook is a tributary of the Passaic River that flows through the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Morris County, New Jersey, in the United States. Black Brook rises at the north east base of Long Hill, Chatham Township, Morris County, flows westerly along the hill, by a course of 7 or 8 miles to its recipient in Morris Township, New Jersey. Due to the chemical fertilizer usage in nearby areas, Black Brook has the second worst water quality after Loantaka Brook.

Long Hill Township is a township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 8,629, a decrease of 73 (−0.8%) from the 2010 census count of 8,702, which in turn reflected a decline of 75 (−0.9%) from the 8,777 counted in the 2000 census.The township is situated in the southernmost part of Morris County bordering both Somerset and Union counties. It is bounded by the Passaic River to the south and west and to the north by the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge which covers 7,455 acres (3,017 ha) of land overseen by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. Refuge lands also lie within neighboring Chatham and Harding townships. Originally incorporated as Passaic Township in the 1860s, residents voted to change the town's name to Long Hill Township in 1992. It includes the communities of Gillette, Stirling, Millington, Meyersville and Homestead Park. NJ Transit rail service is available at the Gillette, Millington and Stirling stations.

The area is served as United States Postal Service ZIP Code 07980. The Stirling train station is located along the Gladstone Branch of the New Jersey Transit Morristown Line. As of the 2000 United States Census, the population for ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) 07980 was 2,499.

The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is located in Morris County, New Jersey. Established in 1960, it is among what has grown to be more than 550 refuges in the United States National Wildlife Refuge System. The first part of the Great Swamp that was assembled and donated for perpetual preservation by the park service of the federal government was declared a National Natural Landmark in May 1966. More land has been added several times. Its eastern half (3,660 acres (14.8 km2)) was designated as a wilderness by Congress in 1968, making it the first wilderness area within the Fish and Wildlife Service. Since about 1966, it has been managed by the Morris County Park Commission.
