Guava Lamp was a gay bar and nightclub in Neartown, Houston, in the U.S. state of Texas. It closed in 2020 after 22 years of operation. The Pride Superstar, in which contestants sang for a prize, began at Guava Lamp.

It is the global headquarters for Corebridge Financial, formerly American General. The America Tower is a 590 ft (180m) tall skyscraper. It was completed in 1983 and has 43 floors. It is the 21st tallest building in the city. It serves as the headquarters of Baker Hughes. It served as the former headquarters of Continental Airlines; it now houses AIG American General and BDO USA, LLP. The other buildings include the Life Building, the Wortham Tower, the Woodson Tower (a.k.a. the Liberty Tower), and the Riviana Building.

Lasse Sigurd Seim, the consul general of Norway to Houston, described the estimated 5,000–6,000 Norwegians in the Houston area around 2008 as the largest concentration of Norwegians outside of Scandinavia. About 100 Norwegian companies had business operations in Houston during that year. In 2007 Houston had $1.5 billion United States dollars in trade with Norway.

William H. Wharton K-8 Dual Language Academy, formerly William Wharton Elementary School, is a public school in the Neartown area of Houston, Texas and part of the Houston Independent School District. Also known as the Wharton Dual Language Academy, the school serves gifted and talented students in the Language Magnet program from Pre-K through 8th grade. Within the United States it has one of the oldest dual language bilingual programs that occupy entire campuses. As of 2008 it has the only such program in the City of Houston. The Principal for Wharton Dual Language Academy is Jennifer Day.Wharton, located within the East Montrose subdivision, serves a section of the Neartown area, including a section of Montrose, half of Hyde Park, most of Avondale, most of East Montrose, a section of North Montrose.

Inversion was a 2005 artwork by sculptors Dan Havel and Dean Ruck of Houston Alternative Art. Havel and Ruck altered two buildings owned by the Art League of Houston on the corner of Montrose Boulevard and Willard Street. The exterior skins of the houses were peeled off and used to create a large vortex that funneled into the small central hallway connecting the two buildings and eventually exited through a small hole into an adjacent courtyard. Inversion has become one of Houston's most well-known, albeit vanished, sculptures. The structure was later demolished to make way for a new Art League building. Art League Houston owned the two houses and had used them for art classes and exhibitions for over 30 years. The organisation commissioned Havel and Ruck to transform them into an artwork in demolition. The sculpture was opened on May 21, 2005, and was visible from Montrose Boulevard until its demolition the next month. Years later, the artwork continues to be cited on design blogs.

Inversion Coffee House (also known as Inversion Coffee and Art and Inversion Coffee and Gelato, or simply Inversion) was a coffeehouse in Houston, in the U.S. state of Texas.

The River Oaks Shopping Center is a shopping center in Neartown, Houston, adjacent to River Oaks. As of 2012 the more than 322,000-square-foot (29,900 m2) center includes one grocery store, one movie theater, 14 restaurants, and 76 stores. The center, owned by Weingarten Realty, is the third oldest shopping center of its type in the United States.
