The Battle of the Hatpins (French: Bataille des épingles à chapeaux) was a 1916 protest that occurred in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, over the effects of provincial Regulation 17. First passed in 1912 and more strictly enforced beginning in 1915–1916, the regulation restricted French-language education in the province of Ontario. Over 70 women used common household objects such as hatpins and frying pans to fight off 30 police officers intent on arresting two sisters, Béatrice and Diane Desloges, for teaching in French in an Ottawa school. The battle was part of a cultural resistance movement that led to bilingual education being officially reinstated in 1927. Regulation 17 was apologized for by the Ontario government over 100 years later.

The Wheelhouse Maritime Museum (WMM) was a maritime museum in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It opened officially on Monday, February 1, 1965, by the Underwater Society of Ottawa. The Wheelhouse Maritime Museum was open to the public on Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5 p.m., and on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings between 7 and 9 p.m. From February 1, 1965, until it closed in 1976, the museum was housed in the top-storey of 218 Cumberland Street in Ottawa.

Lower Town (also spelled "Lowertown" (French: la Basse-Ville) is a neighbourhood in Rideau-Vanier Ward in central Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, to the east of downtown. It is the oldest part of the city. It is bounded by Rideau Street to the south, the Ottawa River to the west and north and the Rideau River to the east. It includes the commercial Byward Market area in the south-western part, and is predominantly residential in the north and east. It was historically French Canadian and Irish (as opposed to English and Scottish Upper Town, a term no longer in use) and is to this day home to many Franco-Ontarian families, businesses and institutions.

CFGO features local Ottawa sports shows most of the day, with programming from TSN Radio, ESPN Radio and Fox Sports Radio nights and weekends. CFGO is the flagship station for the Ottawa Senators NHL team. CFGO is powered at 50,000 watts, the maximum for Canadian AM stations. Because 1200 AM is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A WOAI San Antonio, CFGO must use a directional antenna to protect WOAI from interference. CFGO has a six-tower array on Moodie Drive at Barnsdale Road in Barrhaven, Ontario. CFGO audio streaming is also available through iHeartRadio.

CHRO-TV (analogue channel 5) is a television station licensed to Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, serving the capital city of Ottawa as part of the CTV 2 system. It is owned and operated by Bell Media alongside CTV outlet CJOH-DT (channel 13). Both stations share studios with Bell's Ottawa radio properties at the Market Media Mall building on George Street in downtown Ottawa's ByWard Market, while CHRO-TV's transmitter is located on TV Tower Road near Pembroke. The Champagne Bath, officially the Champagne Fitness Centre, is a historic public bath in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 321 King Edward Avenue in Lower Town. Originally, the structure was built for the greater hygiene of the largely working class residents of the neighbourhood, many of whom had no baths in their homes. The structure was also originally home to a library. Work began on the building in 1921 and it was completed in 1924. The building, a blend of the Spanish Colonial Revival and Prairie Styles, was designed by Werner Ernst Noffke. It was named after Ottawa mayor Napoléon Champagne. It was Ottawa's first municipal swimming pool and was one of the first indoor pools in Canada. The pool was also unusual in that it used salt water, which meant it did not need to be chlorinated. It was soon followed by the Plant Bath, which was built on the western side of town. It was segregated by sex until 1967 with separate ground level entrances for women and men. While popular for many years, usage declined as the facility aged. In the 1980s, after the completion of the Le Patro facility, the city proposed closing the Champagne Bath. After public protest it was decided to renovate instead, at the cost of some two million dollars. The transformed facility opened in 1990.
