Gold Crown from Cheonmachong

The gold diadem ornaments of the Queen Consort of King Muryeong are a pair of 6th-century golden ornaments made in the kingdom of Baekje, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. They were excavated in 1971 in the tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju City, the second capital of Baekje. In recognition of its beauty and historic meaning, it was designated as the 155th National Treasure of Korea on July 9, 1974. The pair was found near the queen's coffin. It was 22.6 cm in height and 13.4 cm wide. The drilled gold plate was decorated with the patterns. It was similar to that of the king’s crown, with a flower at the top and a lotus-shaped design in the middle. Some flame patterns appear on the edges, following bilateral symmetry. These artifacts were the only two crown ornaments discovered in the Gongju area.

The portrait of Yi Je-hyeon (Korean: 이제현 초상; Hanja: 李齊賢 肖像) is a portrait of a Goryeo politician and neo-Confucian scholar Yi Chehyŏn. As a rare piece of the remaining portrait from the Goryeo period, it was designated as the 110th National Treasure of South Korea in 1962. Two poems are written above the portrait, one by Yi himself and the other by the famed Yuan writer Tang Binglong. It is said that he was attending King Chungseon (1275–1325) to visit Hangzhou in 1319, while the king requested the Yuan painter Zhen Ganru to draw the portrait of his subject, Yi.

Mireukjeon (Korean: 미륵전; Hanja: 彌勒殿) is a hall in the temple Geumsansa in Gimje, North Jeolla Province, South Korea. It is a Buddhist pavilion of the Joseon period. It was designated as the 62nd National Treasure of South Korea. It is the only extant Buddhist pavilion constructed in the mid-Joseon period. Mireukjeon was torn down amid the second invasion of Korea by the Japanese in 1597, rebuilt in 1635, going through a series of reconstruction works. One of the distinctive features the hall maintains is a single large hall without any columns inside combined with several pieces attached.

Two gold necklaces of the Queen Consort of King Muryeong of Baekje were discovered in a 1971 excavation of their tomb. Designated as the 158th National Treasure of South Korea in 1974, the necklaces are held in the Gongju National Museum. In 2021, the museum commemorated the excavation's fiftieth anniversary by exhibiting more than 5,000 relics from the tomb. The 14cm and 16cm-long necklaces consist of 7 and 9 segments, respectively. The 7-part necklace lay beneath the other in the tomb, indicating that they were worn together. The center is the thickest part, with a slightly curved shape. A hexagonal golden stick narrows into a loop, connecting it with other similar loops. The parts away from the loops are tied, 10-11 times for the smaller one and 6–8 times for the larger.

The bronze brazier with demon face decoration is a Goryeo-period bronze brazier with its demon-shaped body. The jade color is well covered all around, whereas its handle and base plates for the charcoal are not found. In recognition of its unique design, the artifact was designated as the 145th National Treasure of South Korea in 1972. Having been possessed by a private collector, the brazier was donated to the National Museum of Korea in 2006. The cauldron-shaped body is upheld by the supporting three animal-formed legs with its 12.9 cm height. The upper part has curved shapes similar to three peaks of the mountains with 2 loops on each side. Given the facts that ventilated holes were dug at the body of the brazier, it’s also possible to have an assumption the artifact was primarily used for cooking or tea-brewing.

The Certificate of Meritorious Subject Issued to Sim Ji-baek (Korean: 심지백 개국원종공신녹권; Hanja: 沈之伯 開國原從功臣錄券) is a certificate of meritorious subject given to Sim Ji-baek by the founder of Joseon, Taejo. Possessed by Dong-A University in Busan, this document was designated as the 69th National Treasure of South Korea. The certificate, measuring 140 centimeters long and 30.5 centimeters wide, had been kept by the Sim's family who settled in Pado-myeon, Dancheon-gun, Hamgyeongnam-do. The document was issued according to the newly adopted reward system with a view to enhancing the numbers and status of the founding contributors in the newly founded dynasty–more than 1,400 people got rewarded from 1392 to 1397. Details as such were not recorded in Annals of Joseon until this decree was verified. Significant features are the mixture of linguistic usage such as the Idu script, printed by wooden movable types and a rare printed document from early Joseon period.

The gold diadem ornaments of King Muryeong is a pair of golden ornaments made in the kingdom of Baekje, Three Kingdoms of Korea which were excavated in 1971 in the tomb of King Muryeong in Gongju city, South Chungcheong Province, South Korea. Made public for the first time in 2017, Gongju National Museum holds the artifacts. In 1971 excavation, more than 4,000 artifacts were discovered without a trail of theft. The king’s(154th) and queen’s ornaments (155th) have similar patterns such as flowers and flames. Found near the inner side of the king’s coffin, the pair shares similar scale: the heights(30.7 cm, 29.2 cm), the widths(14 cm, 13.6 cm). The gold plaque was drilled so as to decorate the vine pattern, and there is a stem at the bottom with two or three small holes at the upper side which would be able to be attached to the crown. A beaded ornament was twisted with gold thread on the front.

The Gold Waist Belt from Geumgwanchong Tomb (Korean: 금관총 금제 허리띠; Hanja: 金冠塚 金製 銙帶) is a royal girdle from the kingdom of Silla, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea. It was discovered in the tomb of Geumgwanchong in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province in 1921. After indepence of Korea, it was designated as the 88th National Treasure of South Korea on December 20, 1962.

The Celadon Ewer in the Shape of a Fish-dragon (Korean: 청자 어룡형 주전자; Hanja: 靑磁 魚龍形 注子) is a 12th-century piece of Korean celadon pottery, designated as a National Treasure in South Korea, where it is held by the National Museum of Korea. The U-shaped celadon, which has a height of 24.4 centimeters and a 10.3 base diameter, is shaped like a mythical fish dragon, with teeth, fins, and tails. The fish-dragon ewer holds its unique form, a finely detailed design with its glaze color. The fins and frills are dispersed throughout the body, with its tail pointing upward. The twisted lotus stem is attached to the back of the ewer as a handle and its base is adorned with the lotus petal.

A pair of gold earrings belonging to King Muryeong of Baekje were uncovered in a 1971 excavation and designated as the 156th National Treasure of South Korea in 1974. They are held at the Gongju National Museum. More than 4,000 relics were discovered in the undisturbed Tomb of King Muryeong. This artifact was found near the upper part of the king ‘s coffin. It is 8.3 cm in length. The heart-shaped gold earrings weigh more than 100 g (3.5 oz), the heaviest earrings discovered in Korea. The thick loop has 2 strands of decoration. The strand with a large leaf-shaped gold plate is at the end of the hollow ornament. Lacking a distinctive pattern, two oval leaves at the front and the back provide it with a variation. The other strand has a bead-shaped ornament made of small rings with leaf-shaped ornaments attached. A blue curved jade piece at the end is well-matched, with a golden cap. Using glass-made jade in the middle was a distinctive features of Baekje earrings.

Bukhansan Monument, was designated as the 3rd National Treasure of Korea on December 12, 1962. The stone monument was originally erected at Bibong Peak on Bukhan Mountain. It was subsequently moved to Gyeongbokgung Palace for safekeeping and is now displayed in the National Museum of Korea. The rectangular monument is built on a two-story pedestal. Because the monument was exposed to the elements for 1400 years it has suffered weathering and erosion damage. It is currently 154 centimeters high and 69 centimeters wide. The Bukhansan Monument was rediscovered in 1816 during the reign of Emperor Sunjo by Chusa Kim Jeonghui, a famous calligrapher. The monument is valuable for the historical information inscribed on its surface. There are 12 lines with 32 characters per line in the Haeseoche style of Chinese calligraphy. The inscription praises the Silla King Jinheung's (540-575 CE) territorial expansion into the Han River valley and commemorates the occasion when the king came and inspected the new borders of his realm. The inscription explains why the monument was built, describes the achievements of King Jinheung, and also describes the royal retinue. While the exact date of when the monument was constructed is unclear because the era name is illegible, it is believed that the monument was constructed in 561 CE or 568 CE because the Changnyeongbi Monument and the Hwangchoryeongbi Monument were built on those dates respectively.

On June 24, 2021, the National Museum of Korea opened a new branch inside Incheon International Airport. Located in the boarding area of the airport in front of Gate No.22, the branch was opened in celebration of the museum's 20th anniversary.
