The Citadel of Riga was a fortress in Riga, located near the Old Town, existing from the 17th to 19th centuries. It provided additional defense for the city and served as a base for the city garrison. It was heavily damaged during the Siege of Riga by the forces of Peter I in 1709 and was repeatedly rebuilt. It was decommissioned as a fortress in 1867. Today, the name "Citadel" remains associated with the area where the fortress once stood—between the banks of the Daugava north of the Riga Castle, Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street, Kronvalda Boulevard, and the Riga city canal. Several historical buildings have been preserved.

St. Peter and St. Paul Church (Latvian: Svētā Pētera un Pāvila pareizticīgo baznīca) is the oldest Orthodox church surviving in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The church is situated at the address Citadeles iela 7.The church was built in the 1780s and served the Russian garrison stationed in the Riga Citadel. The Soviet regime turned it into the "Ave Sol" concert hall. In 2012 the building was returned to the Latvian Orthodox Church.

Riga Castle (Latvian: Rīgas pils) is a castle on the banks of River Daugava in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The castle was founded in 1330. Its structure was thoroughly rebuilt between 1497 and 1515. Upon the castle's seizure by the Swedes, they constructed spacious annexes in 1641. The fortress was continually augmented and reconstructed between the 17th and 19th centuries. Sometime in the 1930s, some renovation work was done by architect Eižens Laube. The Latvian government declared the castle its residence in 1938. Today it is the official residence of the President of Latvia as well as home to several museums.

The Latvian Museum of National History (Latvian: Latvijas Nacionālais vēstures muzejs), is a national history museum in Riga, Latvia. It was founded in 1869 by the Riga Latvian Society. Since 1920 it has been located in Riga Castle and in 1924 it attained state museum status. Its mission is "to collect, preserve, research and popularise spiritual and material culture from Latvia and the world from ancient times until today, which has archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, historical or artistic significance, in the interests of the Latvian nation and its people". Since May 2014 the main exhibition space has been temporarily located on Freedom Boulevard (Brīvības bulvāris) in a three-story building dating from 1875, originally constructed as a family home by architect Heinrich Scheel. The location is close to the Freedom Monument. From 1946 to 2009 the building was used as the Faculty of History and Philosophy of the University of Latvia. After reconstruction and restoration works are finalized at Riga Castle, the museum is scheduled to move back to its permanent premises in 2018. The Popular Front museum, located in the former headquarters of that organization from the Third Awakening, came under the museum in January 2015.

The Pushkin Statue in Kronvalds Park in Riga, Latvia, was erected in 2009 as a gift from the city of Moscow and removed in 2023. It was made by sculptor Alexander Tartynov. The statue became controversial following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 18 November 2022, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Latvia posted pictures of the monument, painted with white and red paint, on social media. The State Police of Latvia has started an investigation into this case. However, on 25 November 2022, a petition called "Demolition of the Pushkin monument" was posted on the community petition platform manabalss.lv. The author plans to hand it in to Riga City Council. On 12 March 2023, in a protest organized by the Latvian Russian Union around 200 people protested in front of Riga Town Hall against the statue's proposed removal. The statue was removed in May 2023.

Our Lady of Sorrows Church (Latvian: Sāpju Dievmātes Romas katoļu baznīca) is a Roman Catholic church in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The church is situated at the address 5 Pils Street. It was built in 1785.

Riga Free Port (Latvian: Rīgas brīvosta) is a major port on the east coast of the Baltic Sea, located in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It stretched for 15 kilometers along both banks of the Daugava within the city limits, the area of the port is 1962 ha, water area - 6348 hectares. Navigation is carried out year-round. Most of the cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes from and to CIS. The main objects of cargo handling are coal, oil products, timber, fertilizer and container cargoes. While the Ventspils Free Port and Liepaja Port specialize in export, a significant part of the activities of the Freeport of Riga is import. At the beginning of the 2000s, the goods arriving at the Riga port amounted to 70 percent of the incoming freight turnover of all the Latvian ports taken together.In 2012, the Freeport of Riga took the 4th place in overall cargo turnover among the ports of the eastern Baltic (after Primorsk, St. Petersburg and Ust-Luga) and 3rd place in container freight turnover (after St. Petersburg and Klaipeda).

Grebenstchikov House of Prayer (Latvian: Grebenščikova vecticībnieku kopienas lūgšanu nams, Russian: Рижская Гребенщиковская соборная моленная) is an Old Believers place of worship in Riga, the capital of Latvia. It is situated at the address 73 Krasta Street.

The sieges of Riga were two sieges which took place on February 22 and June 15, 1700, in Riga: 687  during the Great Northern War. The Swedish garrison of about 4,000 men under the command of Erik Dahlberg successfully repulsed the Saxons until the main Swedish army under Charles XII of Sweden arrived to sweep the Saxons away in the battle of Riga which ended the period of sieges for the year. The successful attempt to take the city from Sweden was made in the siege of Riga (1710) by the Russians under Peter the Great.

The 1941 attack on Riga was an offensive operation by the armed forces of Nazi Germany during the German occupation of Latvia in 1941, taking place from June 29 to July 1. During the attack, a large part of Old Riga was destroyed.

The Latvian National Opera and Ballet (LNOB) is an opera house and opera company at Aspazijas boulevard 3 in Riga. Its repertoire includes performances of opera and ballet presented during the season which lasts from mid-September to the end of May. During a typical season, LNOB presents almost 200 performances, including, on average, 6 new productions. The largest is the Great Hall which houses 946 seats, while the smaller ones – the New Hall, the Dress Circle Hall (Beletāžas zāle) and the Red Hall – have a maximum seating capacity of 338, 170 and 100 respectively. LNOB employs a total of approximately 600 people. The building is located on the bank of the Riga Canal, near the Freedom Monument. As of 5 November 2019, the chairman of the board is Egils Siliņš, a world renowned opera singer. The chief conductor since 2013 is Mārtiņš Ozoliņš who is also an associate professor at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. The artistic director since 1993 is Aivars Leimanis.

St. Mary Magdalene's Church (Latvian: Svētās Marijas Magdalēnas Romas katoļu baznīca un klosteris) is a Roman Catholic church in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The church is situated at the addresses 4 Klostera Street and 2 Mazaja Pils Street.The church is named for Jesus' companion, Mary Magdalene.
