The 10,000-square-foot (930 m2) dance club located at 810 Pacific Street was popular among the city's gay community. Among South Beach’s many features was a full-color water-cooled matrix laser light show utilizing Kryogen Ifex liquid ice jets that spray out a thick cloud of liquid Ice. The ice jets had the ability to reduce the temperature of the club by 20 °F (−7 °C) in a few seconds.South Beach is owned by Charles Armstrong. Charles Armstrong also owns JR's Bar & Grill, and formerly owned Meteor Urban Lounge, and Montrose Mining Company before they closed.

The Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Houston was a diplomatic mission of China, headquartered at 3417 Montrose Boulevard in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston, Texas. It served eight states in the Southern United States: Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, in addition to Puerto Rico. An earlier diplomatic mission had been established by the Republic of China government and was in existence by 1935.Opened in 1979 by the People's Republic of China, it was the first Chinese consulate general to be established in the United States. On July 24, 2020, the consulate was ordered to close by the United States government.In addition to the main consulate building, it also maintained an education office in Midtown.

Mary's, originally called Mary's, Naturally and sometimes referred to as Mary's Lounge, was an iconic gay bar located in the Montrose neighborhood in Houston, Texas, in the United States. The bar opened in 1968, and by the time of its permanent closing in November 2009, it was the oldest gay bar in Houston and one of the oldest in Texas. In addition to being one of the most popular and well-known gay bars in Montrose, Mary's was a hub for gay political activism. In 2011, OutSmart said that the bar "anchored" Houston's gay community in Montrose during its nearly forty-year history.

The Westmoreland Historic District is a neighborhood in Neartown Houston, Texas. It is west of Spur 527, between Westheimer Road and West Alabama Street.The community was created in 1902 and was home to many prominent families in Greater Houston. The historic district's boundaries were established on July 23, 1997. As of 2009 many of the original houses are still standing.

Chances Bar was a nightclub in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston, Texas, which catered to the local LGBT community, particularly lesbians. According to the Chances Bar Tribute Site, the bar opened in August 1994. The space had been owned by the Vastakis family since it was Charlie's Coffee Shop in the 1970s.

Montrose is a neighborhood located in west-central Houston, Texas, United States. Established in 1911, the neighborhood is a demographically diverse area with renovated mansions, bungalows with wide porches, and cottages located along tree-lined boulevards. Montrose has been called the "Heart of Houston" and the "strangest neighborhood east of the Pecos".
