Saint Anne's Hospital (Fall River, Massachusetts)

St. Anne Shrine is a historic local landmark located at the intersection of South Main and Middle streets in Fall River, Massachusetts. Until 2018, it was a parish in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fall River. In addition to the church, the complex also includes the former Dominican Order monastery as well as the former Dominican Academy, constructed in 1894. The great upper church was formally dedicated on July 4, 1906 and closed November 25, 2018. The Lower Crypt Church shrine was re-opened July 4, 2019, but the upper part of the church remains closed for restoration and renovation. The church was designed by Canadian architect Napoléon Bourassa in the Romanesque Revival style. Construction began in 1891, and was supervised by Fall River architect Louis G. Destremps. Work began on the upper church on July 17, 1902. The building, which is constructed of blue marble from Proctor, Vermont, measures 277 feet long by 122 wide, with steeples 160 feet high. The exterior was completed in June 1904 and the new church was formally dedicated on July 4, 1906.The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The 2025 Fall River assisted-living fire – widely referred to as the Gabriel House fire – was a five-alarm fire that broke out at the 100-unit Gabriel House Assisted Living Facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States, on the night of July 13–14, 2025. The fire was reported at about 21:50 EDT (01:50 UTC) and quickly spread through the three-story, wood-frame building, with residents visible at upper-floor windows when firefighters arrived. Ten residents died and more than 30 people—including six firefighters—were injured, making it the deadliest fire in Massachusetts in more than four decades. Roughly 70 residents were inside at the time; many used wheelchairs or relied on medical oxygen, conditions that both hindered evacuation and accelerated the fire's spread. Investigators have classified the fire as accidental but undetermined. Preliminary findings trace the point of origin to a single second-floor studio where either a malfunctioning oxygen concentrator or discarded smoking materials ignited in an oxygen-enriched atmosphere. The performance of the facility's sprinkler and alarm systems remains under review. The disaster prompted Governor Maura Healey to order an emergency review of fire-safety practices at all 273 assisted-living residences in Massachusetts, and it has led to multiple negligence lawsuits filed by survivors and victims' families against the facility's owners.

The Osborn Street School is a historic school building located at 160 Osborn Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. It was built in 1893, to replace an earlier schoolhouse on the same site. It also briefly served as the city's normal school for training new teachers before it was moved to the William S. Greene School.The school was one of nine new grammar schools built in the city during the 1890s. It was designed by Frank Irving Cooper, who also designed the similar Coughlin School, along with many other schools throughout New England. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.The Osborn Street School was one of about a dozen elementary schools closed in June 2008 by the city. Students were transferred to the newly built Carlton M. Vivieros Elementary School.

St. Louis Church was a historic former Roman Catholic church, located at 440 Bradford Avenue in Fall River, Massachusetts. The Gothic Revival church was built in 1885 to the designs of James Murphy. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The Diocese of Fall River closed the parish in 2001, and the records were transferred to St. Mary's Cathedral (Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption). The church was demolished in April 2010 for a cultural center that has yet to be built.

St. Stanislaus Parish is a Roman Catholic parish designated for Polish immigrants in Fall River, Massachusetts, United States. Founded in 1898, it is one of the Polish-American Roman Catholic parishes in New England in the Diocese of Fall River. It also has a vibrant community, annual Polish festival, and a school. The students are educated not only in their faith and regular studies, but also Polish culture and language. The Church is in the South End Neighborhood in Fall River, known for its historic Slavic communities, an example being the Ukrainian Catholic Church, St. John the Baptist, down the street, and the famed restaurant, Pattie's Pierogi's close by. The community is steeped in tradition, and Polish or not, the parishioners, as well as the students in the school, are instilled with strong Polish ethnic and national pride.

The N. B. Borden School is a historic school building at 43 Morgan Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. It is a three-story red brick building with a mansard roof pierced by shed-roof dormers, and brownstone beltcourses above each level. It was built in 1867–68, during a period of growth in the city, and was used for many years as a vocational training school. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.Also known as the Morgan Street School, it was named for Nathaniel B. Borden, who was the owner of the Pocasset Mills, as well as a former mayor, state representative and U.S. Representative. Borden died in 1865, and the school was named after him on its founding in 1867.The Morgan Street School was the oldest operating school in the city when it closed in 2007. Students were transferred to the new Carlton M. Viveiros Elementary School. In 2012, Keven Santos, co-owner of T.A. Restaurant purchased the school from the city for $5,000 with the promise to convert the school to market rate housing. The city had turned down other, more well established developers who also bid for the property in favor of Santos. After many years and no progress made on the school, Santos made the decision to demolish the school instead of developing into apartments in 2019. The Preservation Society of Fall River investigated and asked the Historical Commission to place a 6-month delay on the demolition. The biggest point of contention was a missing purchase & sales agreement between Santos and the city. The city was unable to find their copy of the agreement. As of August 5th, 2021, the Nathaniel B. Borden School has been demolished after a long battle between the private owner, the local non-profit Preservation Society and the city's Historical Commission. The owner plans to convert the site to a surface parking lot for customers of their restaurant around the corner on South Main Street.[1]

Massasoit Fire House No. 5 is a historic former fire station located in Fall River, Massachusetts. The building was designed by Boston architects Hartwell & Swasey and was built in 1873. This same firm also designed several other extant fire stations in Fall River during this period, including the Quequechan No. 1, Anawan No. 6 and Pocasset Firehouse No. 7. The building was originally designed to also contain a police station. The firehouse was built to serve the Globe Village section of the city. It has since been replaced by the Globe/Kosior Fire Station on Globe Street.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. It now contains residential apartments.

Kennedy Park (originally known as South Park) is a 57-acre (23 ha) historic park located in Fall River, Massachusetts. It is bounded by South Main Street, Bradford Avenue, Middle, and Bay Streets in the southern part of the city. The area of the city where the park is located was until 1862, part of Rhode Island.

Brayton Methodist Episcopal Church is an historic former Methodist church building located at 264 Griffin Street in Fall River, Massachusetts. The wooden Gothic Revival church building was constructed in 1897 through the generosity of John Summerfield Brayton and his sister Mary Brayton Young. It was designed by local architect Charles H. Farnham.The church was unique in that it was built by and named for the Braytons, a prominent local family, yet it was a "mill-workers'" church, located in the southern section of the city near several mills. The church, a handsome vernacular example of Late Victorian Gothic style.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The building is now owned by Citizens for Citizens, a non-profit social agency.

Santo Christo Church is an historic church located at 240 Columbia Street in Fall River, Massachusetts, dedicated to the Lord Holy Christ of the Miracles. The parish was formally established in 1889 to serve in the local Portuguese community, after two decades of itinerant services by priests from New Bedford.The Gothic Revival-style church building was built in 1924–27 to a design by the architectural firm of Murphy & Hindle. It is stylistically subdued, but has fine stained glass windows, a tile roof with copper coping, and cast stone pinnacles.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. A building restoration project began in late 2013. As of July 2018 the pastor is the Very Rev. Jeffrey Cabral, J.C.L., who is also the Judicial Vicar for the Diocese of Fall River.Masses are celebrated in English Sunday's at 10:00am and Portuguese Saturday at 4pm and Sunday 8am and 12pm (Summer hours: 8am and 11am).

Corky Row Historic District is a historic district located in Fall River, Massachusetts bounded by Plymouth Avenue, Interstate-195 and Second Street. The district contains many early multi-family mill tenement houses, along with the Davol Mills, the Tecumseh Mill No. 1 and several commercial properties. Perhaps the most famous property listed within the Corky Row Historic District is the house of Andrew J. Borden, located at 230 (92 before 1896) Second Street. This house was the scene of the infamous 1892 double ax-murder of Mr. Borden and his wife, which led to the trial and acquittal of Andrew's daughter, Lizzie Borden. Today, the house has been restored as a bed-and-breakfast. The district contains over 400 structures with an area of 96 acres (390,000 m2) and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, colloquially known as Saint Mary's Cathedral, is a historic church located in Fall River, Massachusetts. It is the cathedral and a parish church in the Diocese of Fall River. Built from 1852 to 1856, the cathedral and adjacent rectory were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, as St. Mary's Cathedral and Rectory. It is the oldest extant church building in the city of Fall River, and was one of the city's first Catholic parishes. The cathedral is dedicated to Mary, mother of Jesus under the title of Our Lady of the Assumption.
