Skreen (barony)

Skryne or Skreen (from Irish: Scrín Cholm Cille, meaning 'Colm Cille's shrine, or originally called The Hill of Acaill'), is a village situated on and around a hill between the N2 and N3 national primary roads in County Meath, Ireland. It is situated on the far side of the Gabhra valley from the Hill of Tara. This valley is sometimes referred to as the Tara-Skryne Valley. The Hill of Skryne is higher than the neighbouring Hill of Tara. About 1170 Hugh de Lacy, Lord of Meath granted Skryne to Adam de Feypo, whose descendants used the customary title Baron Skryne, which was not a peerage in the strict sense. A 15th-century church, known locally as Skryne tower or The Steeple, remains in good condition at the top of the hill and is visible from a large area of Meath. At the foot of the tower is a pub and stables that feature in the Guinness "white Christmas" television advertisement.

Skryne Castle (Irish: Caislean na Scríne or Caisleán Scrín Cholm Cille) was a castle at Skryne, County Meath, Ireland; only ruins remain. The motte and bailey castle was built by Adam de Feypo in the 12th century.

Gleann Gabhra is a small award-winning Irish cheese company owned by Dominic and Fionnuala Gryson located in Macetown near the Hill of Tara in County Meath, Ireland, producing a single cheese, Tara Bán, a mild-flavoured goat's Cheddar with a firm texture and brilliant white colour. Dominic and Fionnuala Gryson began producing cheese here in 2010 using pasteurised milk from his herd of goats.The farm began in 1996 with the purchase of 20 acres to grow beef, grain and potatoes. An unsuccessful attempt to raise and sell goat's milk led to the purchase of a pasteurisation unit in 2010. They began making cheese and selling at local markets; by 2011, the farm had grown to a herd of 140 dairy goats with a yield of between 900 and 1,000 L (200 and 220 imp gal; 240 and 260 US gal) of milk annually. They are currently making a wide variety of goat's milk products, and have made claims that goat's milk can relieve a number of ailments.

Austin Darragh (27 April 1927 – 4 October 2015) was an Irish medical practitioner, entrepreneur, broadcaster and writer. He is notable for being the sole founder of the Irish Cancer Society in 1963, and being the radio doctor on The Gay Byrne Show.

Cushinstown is a townland which, together with Roadmain and Curraghtown, is in the parish of Duleek, County Meath, Ireland. This entity is not, at any point geographically attached to the main part of the parish, so it might be said that these townlands are an "off-shore island of Duleek Parish". To confuse things further, the part of Cushinstown townland which extends from the stream at Schoolhouse towards "The Snail Box" is in Curraha parish. However, broadly speaking, the locality known as Cushinstown embraces those townlands which form the catchment area for the local school.

Killeen Castle (Irish: Caisleán an Chillín), located in Dunsany, County Meath, Ireland, is the current construction on a site occupied by a castle since around 1180. The current building is a restoration of a largely 19th century structure, burnt out in 1981. Killeen was built as one of a pair of castles either side of a major roadway north, the other being the extant Dunsany Castle. Its estate was occupied continuously by the Cusack, and then after a marriage, Plunkett, families, from 1172 to 1951.
